  1. They did start making them after mine but when i bought mine they didn't do custom work and making an 8 string neck was probably a bit too expensive if it was just going to be a one off. I can only imagine the 8 string demand must have grown for a spell. Mike Rutherford had an 8 string Hagstrom bass if i remember correctly and that's why i wanted the 4 and 8 string. I do remember it being a very heavy beast especially when i was on 5'9" and 9.5st. The weight was the main reason i traded it for an Aria SB1000. Dave
  2. I owned the black one which was their first attempt at an 8 string where they converted their 6 string bass for me. I'm assuming the serial number would be 001 Dave
  3. Trying to emulate a synth part and envelope filter is the nearest thing to it but still keeping it simple. I'll certainly try your suggestion tho and if that works i'm a pedal less on stage. Dave
  4. Curious but do you use them all during a gig ? If so what kind of music are you playing. ? That's a lot of pedals and this is the small board Dave.
  5. With Glam band its active Bass, Wireless, Envelope filter (for 8 bars in one song) and amp. Wireless has built in tuner and amp has built in compressor. With punk band its passive Bass, lead and amp. Tuner is run from the Amp tuner out. Dave
  6. Cheers Michael. Pre-ordered. I didn't think £26 was too bad. Will be part of my Xmas too. Dave
  7. I've thought about this over the years and haven't settled on any specific songs for entrance and leave but the reflection part was down to these 2 I did think Camel Fox Hill just for the very last word in the song right at the end so i put it on the bottom here. Its a bit long at 8mins tho. Entry would be good to have something from Genesis Seconds Out album, maybe Suppers Ready Dave
  8. If anyone knows of its whereabouts and if the owner would sell i would be very interested. Dave
  9. Just came across this and i was the original owner of that twin neck bass. I can confirm it was a one off requested by me. They didn't make 8 string basses and we agreed to convert their 6 string bass into an 8. Pretty sure it was around 77 if i remember right by the time i actually got it. Cost me £630 Here is an old pic of the said bass. Tried to find it at one point to buy it back. Guy in London area was advertising it on Gumtree and as soon as i mentioned i was the original owner he removed the advert obviously stolen and he thought i was after it. That was about 10yrs ago i think. Dave
  10. That's good to know as i love the MM Stingray tone but not so much the necks. This could be an ideal option. Dave
  11. BLOCKBUSTARZ 70's Glam covers band at Lilliardsedge Holiday Park near Jedburgh. First time playing in a fairly large marquee. When it was empty at sound check the sound was just getting lost but once people in it sounded pretty good but we'll be better prepared for any future gigs there or similar and bring our own digital desk. Originally thought this was an easy one with PA and lighting supplied. When we arrived and setting up i asked where the on stage monitors were and was told "we don't have any" Nice decent PA to be fair. Next we asked where the mic leads etc were kept so we could get our gear up and running and was told "we don't have anything like that". Was then told acts / bands normally bring their own desk and run 2 feeds to their desk / PA. BL checked back the history of messages and showed them they had confirmed that full PA was supplied. Luckily the singer was doing a solo show following day and loaded his small 4 channel desk in his car to save time tomorrow. We ran 3 mics and his acoustic guitar into it and then into main PA. Drums, guitars and bass were on their own. Good job i brought both my Mesa cabs. 2 x 45min sets but we were told by the organiser we could basically do whatever we wanted and finish when we feel like it. We stuck to 1st set as it was and added 2 songs into 2nd set. Used my Sandberg VM4 as always into Shure GLXD wirelss and into Ampeg SVT7 Pro and Mesa SW210/115 cabs. That Ampeg just seems to get better every gig i use it plus its loud. Have to say i'm now getting that valve sound with a bit more clarity that was in my head as the adverts states. All in all it was a good gig and enjoyed it. Girl came over from Ireland specifically to see us and was staying at the park. Classic car group specifically booked this weekend so they could see us. Luckily we recognised some bikers from other rallies we've played over the years so it was a good night. Main road back to Edinburgh A68 closed and had to find backroads to get around it ended up in Melrose which was lucky and way home was clear. Couldn't use this route on way down because of all the blooming road closures for the UCI bike events in the borders areas. Pain in the a**e. No pics or vids as yet but if any appear i'll post. Dave
  12. Most encores i've done are 2 no matter how much an audience shout for more. Normally just one but on the very rare occasion at venues we know and play regularly with both bands we will do an extra song. At that particular venue they run a rock night club upstairs so we usually ask the owner / manager for permission to do any more than one encore. Any more than 2 is generally a bit poor taste in my opinion. Dave
  13. Exactly what i find. 2hrs is about perfect for my stamina and to save me getting blisters on my wee fingertips. At 2 hrs i can control it, any more and it gets quite difficult sometimes cramp sets in after about 2hrs 30 mins. Dave
  14. Our drummer was in The Glitter Band in 90's and even he won't play GG songs. We've tried a few Glitter Band songs but we weren't totally happy with how they sounded so dropped them. We have another one to try at some point if we ever do rehearsals again as we are getting kinda busy and fitting in a rehearsal or two would be a struggle certainly this year. January is usually a quiet month for us so maybe then. We'll need to re-learn the old Xmas songs soon too Dave
  15. My thoughts exactly but i get out-voted by those of lesser sense. Dave
  16. Its rare we do the full set to be fair. I've raised the fact that doing two 1hr sets is what we should be aiming for with a few songs as a back up but it falls on deaf ears at times. Guitarist would play all night if he could and do it 7 nights a week. Seems to be that if we learn a new song we need to add it to the set along with all the others. My argument on it is that you should leave your audience wanting more and doing such a long set might bore the audience after a while. I personally don't enjoy listening to any band for more than 2 hrs unless its Rush, Genesis or Pink Floyd but i'm biased Tomorrow night we have been specifically asked to do two 45min sets. That's probably the least we've played. That's gonna be a short night starting at 9pm with a 30min break finished at 11pm 2hr drive home because of the roads being closed due to cycling events. Bad enough when its motorways shut after midnight but now its cross country roads meaning i need to travel out to Edinburgh and then South down to Jedburgh adding another 30 mins. RANT over Dave
  17. My longest gigs are when we do the full Set list with Glam covers band at 2hrs 40mins. Doing that on a hot night wearing all the glam gear including a hefty wig makes you sweat buckets. On one occasion i was so dehydrated i started to get the shakes on my hands at the break and i had drank 1 litre of water during that first set of 1hr 15mins. Now i have 2 large 18" gym fans one each side of stage and they help a lot. Dave
  18. What a fantastic thing to do. Well done, love the sentiment of it all. Even tho its a sad occasion this post made me feel good this morning @Linus27. Dave
  19. I feel your pain. Only ever happened to me once and like you i muddled thru enough to get decent applause but i've made it clear in every band since that i don't do bass solos and if the band hits me with an unexpected request to solo i would leave the band. (probably won't but it would be considered) Dave
  20. I'll need to remember that next loud gig we do Pete. Dave
  21. We've found that soundcheck in an empty hall always sounds louder. Once audience get in they deaden the volume a bit and all is well in the world again. Dave
  22. Its even more sad that i know who Norman Collier is. 3 times in 200 gigs aint too bad to be fair. Mine was picking up a bit of hiss and i never found out why as it always worked perfect at home when i tested it after the gig. Not every gig tho but it was getting worse and maybe every 4-5 gigs i'd get something not quite right. The Shure is expensive tho but for me its been worth it so far to have peace of mind. Dave
  23. I did have some minor noise interference with the Smooth Hound wireless. Since changing to the Shure GLXD i've had absolutely no issues at all. Literally power up, plug in and play, its that simple plus the pedal has a built in tuner meaning one less pedal in my chain. Can't fault the Shure wireless, built like a tank altho i did replace the cable with a right angled jack and slightly heavier cable. Dave
