  1. We'll be doing Xmas songs by Sweet, Slade, Wizzard with the Mud song being added this year too. Not sure how the Mud song will go down but our guitarists old band used to do it and it was a big hit with the audience so we'll give it a try. Relatively easy one to learn too. Got gigs on 2nd, 16th, 22nd and 23rd Dec We have one on 31st but not sure Xmas songs will be suitable after 25th. Dave
  2. Not a gig but next week i've booked a 3 hr rehearsal slot for the Glam covers band to run thru the Xmas songs we've not played for 11mths just in time for the first Xmas gig on 2nd Dec. WHOO HOO. Dave
  3. Arabian Nights was brilliant The four Splits were really funny too. Stupidly funny by perfect for us kids. Dave
  4. One of my fav programmes when i was a kid. That and The Monkees. Dave
  5. It might be to get thru HMRC. Import paperwork in triplicate from NZ. Dave
  6. Well done on the gig. Its a great feeling playing to a decent audience. With regards bass thru the monitors i've found some venues have Low Pass filters on their monitors which means when bass is thru them its very top ended and no depth. Other venues don't put bass thru the monitors unless you specifically ask for it. Personally i don't really bother but i can usually hear my own rig that i balance against the on-stage drum volume. I've experienced the same situation when using a provided backline and its just not up to the job usually because they buy cheap under powered bass gear and they don't understand that a 100W bass amp isn't the same volume as a 100W Marshall they've provided for guitarists. I always have a bar towel in my bag or even a golf towel that i use to wipe my hands and bass down between songs when needed. Occasionally my face when in the Glam band with the wig and Glam jacket etc. (It does get a bit hot and sweaty.) I also have two 18" gym fans one at each side of the stage to cool us all down. Drummer has his own next to him. All in all you can be chuffed with that result. You carried on like a true professional even when things aren't quite perfect for you on stage. Sometimes you just need to get on and make the best of a difficult situation. Well done Dave
  7. Its in triplicate so that everyone in the band gets a copy Dave
  8. The digital desk has built in HPF so there's no real risk at all. I'll keep at it tho. 😂 Dave
  9. The fact that i keep the QSC 15's in my garage along with my Mesa cabs doesn't help. Its me that has to humph these heavy cabs in and out of my car every gig and at 40Kg each they aint no lightweights. I guess its what we do for our bands I will persist with him altho being old school i do like to see a backline with a band. Dave
  10. I didn't even follow your explanation so i've no chance with the Allison Effect. Dave
  11. I saw a youtube vid of a guy who specialises in sound and he suggested changing the angle of the bass amp on stage or place it in a corner. It was all to do with the soundwaves and frequencies etc. I'm guessing that would be the same for any cabinet. Was quite an interesting watch but it was long and drawn out. Afraid i don't know enough about the subject to confirm its validity. Dave
  12. I suggested IEM few weeks ago ............ again and the reaction was great until i mentioned i won't need any backline as i'll just go thru the PA. The drummer owns and operates the PA and he went into a panic saying the cabs won't cope and i replied that many bass players now use a powered PA cab and pre-amp as they are full range speakers. His cabs are QSC 3 way 15" and more than capable of coping with anything we would put thru them. Response to that was that he would then need to control everyone going thru PA and i said Yes that's true but its a digital desk. Once its set and stored the levels are more or less there every time. You just store for each venue. He wasn't impressed so its not gonna happen anytime soon. Dave
  13. when it happened to me the guitarist said to me at the end of the show "those bass cabs don't half pack some punch for such small lightweight cabs" I didn't have the heart to tell him it was him that was causing the low down punch every now and again. Sometimes its just not worth trying to explain about frequencies to other band members. They usually don't get it. They hear a low boom and assume its the bass. Its usually not in my experience. Dave
  14. WOW that explains a lot. At one of the venues we play i get that exact issue and i've always assumed it was the raised hollow stage but i use a Gramma isolation pad. Dave
  15. Always fancied one after seeing Doug Johns vids with it. Dave
  16. There's a lot of us doing the same thing. Dave
  17. Ooohhh a Pedulla. Don't see many of them about. I'm a bit jealous there. Dave
  18. I'm guessing centre stage. Dave
  19. It was in my youthful days and i was using fingerstyle too. Think it was a rotosound string where its just the core that goes over the saddle. I was a very aggressive player. It was an E string too.
  20. I've only ever broken one string in 40+ yrs when i was playing. Even tho i don't carry spare strings because i have a spare bass with me it still sticks in my mind about breaking one again. Dave
  21. Great pic and we can see what you all look like "out of stage gear". Who are you people ??? Dave
  22. That's good news about the amp and the bass should be an easy fix i would think. Have to say i take a spare bass and amp and always have twin cabs anyway. Even my wireless if it fails i can plug straight into the receiver with a lead and still use the tuner. Dave
  23. I'd be surprised if it was a faulty DI cable if he used the same cables with your spare amp and it sounded ok. Kinda points towards the GK. I once had a dodgy effects return socket on an amp that caused problems because it sits with the contacts made all the time and never really gets used. If you stick a jumper lead from effects send to effects return it sorts it until you can give the contacts a clean. Your amp gets a lot of use on the road too so a little bit of dust on contacts. Dave
  24. Wee afternoon charity event today 1-6pm with BLOCKBUSTARZ Glam covers band so home by 7:30pm Sold Out gig and dancers up for it from the word go again. The organiser wants to book us again for another charity event so we will give the discounted rate. Had a few requests to book us for birthday parties in 2024 but unfortunately our calendar for next year is filling up fairly fast. DJ that was in the venue said the feedback from everyone he spoke to was WOW just WOW what a show. He's never heard that about any other band that's played there. He's also on the club committee so that was good. All in all a great wee afternoon and we even got sandwiches and hot sausage rolls provided at break with coffee and tea. "Lubbily". Those sausage rolls sold it for me. We even got paid before we even started. How confident was the organiser altho she did see us play their for a birthday party 6mths ago. Happy Days No gig pics but here's our "ready to go" pic from the tiny changing room. Dave
  25. Sorry to hear that Pete. Fantastic band too. Dave
