No s*** were you taking the p*** there Dave

Think he's still doing the Thin Lizzy shows after he quit Black Star Riders. His sister is married to Supertramp drummer. Dave
-
Yep done that too. Usually the kitchen sockets in a club are fine. Dave

Where was that ? I remember playing a wee support slot with Status Quoiing at a club in West End Glasgow possibly out towards Paisley area that had a Db monitor. Mic was at far end of the hall. I just put a cover over the mic and no-one was any the wiser. Dave

WOW those guitarists sound so good together and have captured that Robertson/Gorham sound so well. Nice overall sound and well played everyone. Enjoyed that. Dave
-
I thought it was hilarious and kind of what i'd expect from Alex who has a super weird sense of humour. Just brilliant. Dave

Cheers for the heads up on the Fish album. Had never heard it before but now ordered from Amazon. BC is a wonderful thing. Dave
-
I bought the album a few yrs back and did the usual search on them and was quite shocked at the history behind them. As you say Pete it is a very sad story. Such a promising career too. Dave

Badfinger were a great band. Good choice. Dave

Snare drum sound is a new one on me. You do realise that now you've put that in my head i'll be listening to snare drums from here on in. Dave

Its funny how we all differ in opinions but Geddy's vocals was one of the reasons i liked them. For me it blended well with the music and was different from the average singer. His voice has always been a bit of a "marmite" thing even back in 76 when i first heard them the vocals were a discussion point on radio shows and magazine. Dave

You seem to get some really good pics from your gigs. Lot of pro level pics. Dave
-
I would say he was the greatest rock possibly prog drummer but a lot depends on the style of drumming you prefer or listen to. I've heard some drummers that i think are exceptional at their style of music and i'm thinking more jazz/funk styles but its like apples V's oranges. Not sure there are any one shoe fits all. Dave

Liking your plucking technique there @Stub Mandrel. At first i thought you were using a pick. Some nice playing going on there. Enjoyed that a lot. Dave

Think that's why i like the WAL sound as both pick ups are situated nearer the bridge. It gives a nice clear tone to each note. Are we gonna get to hear some vids of you playing at gigs with this one. No pressure but a Build Diary requires some sound clips or vids. Dave

Oh to be a fly on the wall at the point. Did you laugh ? Dave

Looks like a decent venue there. Nice one. Dave

not listened to BOC in a long time. Good choice Dave

Yep had that with a few Fender style bridges. To be honest its only been on Fender basses. Both Mex built ones. Other than that issue they were pretty much ok basses. Dave

When i bought this Thumb bass back in 1990 (its an 89) it developed a very loud pop noise when switching between active and passive. It had to be returned to Warwick in Germany who were brilliant back then and i was given the choice of bass from the shop while it was away. Warwick returned it to me along with a broken English letter of apology and a box full of various goodies incl 3 sets of strings, hoodie, several posters, picks etc. All very nicely done and that has always stuck in my mind. Not sure they would do that now tho. It was a new bass and expensive back then. It cost me more than the WAL i had a few yrs earlier. Dave

WOW Johna that is a stunning bit of kit. Are you sure you can handle it. I'd be happy to look after it for you. Cracking job by the luthier on what must be quite a rare bass for him. I've always loved the look of that model with both pick ups towards the bridge. It has a unique sound. Have fun and let us know how it performs over your upcoming gigs. Will be good to see how it fits in the full band mix at a few different gigs. Many thanks for the heads up on the build diary. Dave

TBH i just went with what Warwick recommended. It wouldn't take much to put an EMG pre-amp in but would it still sound like a Warwick Thumb ? Dave
-
I think the only changes i've made over the many years are :- 1. Warwick Thumb NT pre-amp failed. Warwick no longer produce the original EMG version and could only offer the MEC pre-amp. I had a luthier install it for me. Perhaps i should have gone for a new EMG pre but no matter it still sounds like the same bass. 2. Fender Mex PJ bridge mainly because the original saddles kept dropping and moving about. Put a fender hi-mass bridge on. I have kept the original and will sell with the bass. Don't think it would have made any difference to the sale price. I also prefer buying standard original gear. You never know how a modified bass is gonna sound or whether or not the mods have been done to a decent standard. My one exception would be a Stingray with a Status graphite neck but would want to try it first. Dave

I quite like the 210 combo that you can tilt backwards or stand straight up. Means i could actually hear the bass on stage. Also noticed that MB are producing more powerful amps these days with up to 1000W. Dave

That has to be one of the weirdest back-drops i've ever seen at a gig Dave
