That's interesting. Towards the end of the gig i tried turning the gain down just a notch and upped the master and it did improve so you might have answered the question Steve. Dave

Yep that's annoying when bass is ramped up on a guitar amp. One of my pet hates. Dave

I did that once few years ago but it was because the rest of the band kept turning up their amps and had no idea about overall balance. I couldn't hear myself and decided i'd just not play to see if they actually noticed. Have to say they didn't. I left that band shortly after. Dave

Are valve amps affected by heat and humidity and does that affect your tone. Had problems getting my usual tone from the Handbox WB-100 last night. Room was extremely warm, hot and sweaty if that makes any difference to an amp that runs hot with valves anyway. It sounds ok on the vids that have appeared but sounded a bit odd and i had to cut the mids and treble a bit in an attempt to get a decent fuller sound. Tried my Marlowe and my P bass and both had that odd tone as if it was being overly compressed. I do use a compressor but it sounded same with it off plus i only have the compressor just clipping the higher volume notes due to my enthusiastic playing on some bits of songs. Maybe it was down to a lack of volume and i was trying compensate by playing harder and using EQ rather than turning up and leaving my EQ as normal ? Dave

The birthday party gig was a great wee night altho i just couldn't get my normal sound. I still dont know why. So hot inside the function room. Great to see some friends there from our other gigs that also know the owner and birthday boy. Lot of great comments afterwards so that was good. Not keen on doing party functions with either band as not everyone likes punk or glam but we had dancers and cheers almost every song. BBQ was great too. Going back today to pick up the PA and bass cabs as didn't fancy lifting thru lots of sweaty folks to get to car plus car park was full when i arrived and had to use the overspill area (owners builders yard ) Seemed to quite loud last night. Think the guitarist tweaked his volume a bit too much once we started. Dave

Altho not strictly a gig last night with punk band Emergency Exit we played to a small intimate audience of family and friends while setting up the gear for a gig tonight in a friends very large house in Wanlockhead. He was having a birthday party for his brother on Sat night and said we could all come down on Fri afternoon and set up the gear, have a BBQ and a few beers and if we want to play a few songs even better so we did. I was driving as i live 25mins away so no beer for me. Back there tonight for the actual gig which is a freebie hence the BBQ thrown in last night for us. We occasionally rehearse in his function room if its not leased out that week. Cracking big house too currently building a pool on the end. Driving again tonight so no beers for me but the rest of the band are staying over and drummer lives in same village within staggering distance We can leave the gear there and pick up on Sunday too so no carrying lots of gear thru lots of sweaty bodies at end of the night. Last time we did this kind of party it went on until 4am. Way past my bed time especially when sober. Should be a great wee night and i'll update tomorrow on how it went. Dave

IHear what you're saying but i'm pretty lucky that both bands the guitarists are very controlled and we balance stage volume against the drums. I generally dont have any issue with volume creep other than from soundcheck to actually playing the gig. We play lots of gigs with just vocal PA's in both bands. Its the same drummer in both bands and he has a tendency to play a little bit quieter during soundcheck than the gig itself meaning the guitarist and myself have to notch it up very slightly when we start the gig. Was a nuisance at first but i've gotten used to it over the years. Guitarist with the Marshall rig typically runs his master volume at 2 or less. That's the punk band which plays smaller gigs but he loves the tone from his Marshall rig. Have to admit i do like it with a Les Paul which is my fav guitar tone. Personally i've looked at the Kempers for bass but i hate fiddling with programmes etc. Much prefer to just plug in and play. Dave

One band the guitarist uses a Freidman amp and a 2x12 cab which i'm not sure mfr. Other band is a Marshall amp and either one or two 412 cabs depending on gig size. Dave

To be honest a basic DI would work just as well and let FOH desk sort out the EQ on it.

Only just saw this thread and so sorry to hear such sad news. Thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP Nigel sadly missed. Dave

One main bass that i play all night and a spare. If my main is active i like an active spare with similar pick up config to save adjusting amp EQ. If trying a new bass out i'll use it first set and use my normal bass the 2nd set but that is quite rare. Currently debating with myself as to whether i go from my main Sandberg MarloweDK to a P bass so i'm swapping between them for each of the punk gigs. Glam band i use Sandberg VM4 with Fender P/J active as back up. Punk band so far main has been the MarloweDK with back up my Fender Geddy J or my P bass. Dave

Now we know someone on BC that knows how to set up a crowd funding thingy you'll be tagged for them all from now on. This is why BC is such a wonderful place to be. Looking after each other like one big happy family ........ well most of the time anyways. We may occasionally argue with each other but hopefully we still respect each other enough to help out when it needed. Its certainly made me a happy BC'er today. Dave

was looking at the reviews and it looks and sounds amazing Daryl. As its only for sound effects i'm looking for a cheaper pre-amp / DI pedal in fact a DI pedal would probably do the job and let the desk do the EQ. Dave

Just been told that the venue i played Sat night which had us booked for later in year and had sold 80 tickets was now sold out after our visit on Sat. Holds 130. Quite chuffed with that. Dave
