One of the main rock venues in our area which i play with both bands also told us that punk bands dont go down so well on a Sat night in the venue and we were usually on a Fri night with punk band and Sat night with Glam band. I don't think punk was pulling in as much of an audience so a Fri night suited it better but he did say things tend to change thru time and we are now doing Sat nights with punk band too. This guy really knows his audience to be fair and puts bands on that he knows will pull a decent crowd. Its a 80/20 ticket split so everyone's a winner the more crowd you get in the more he makes at the bar too. Dave

Yep i'm always aware of the punk stigma from its heyday when audiences were a bit raucous and causing more of a disturbance but these days its anything but. Yes punks love to dance a lot but that creates atmosphere at a gig. Sometimes its difficult when you say you're a punk covers band the venue automatically thinks "trouble". If anything i've found the punk audiences are genuine fans of the music and are great fun to play for. And like you @theplumber i'm from a prog background and in no way a punk. Dave

Had this issue with the Punk band. Punk isn't everyone's "cup of tea" but every gig i've played with the band has gone down really well and we alsways get dancers having fun. In one gig where it was a busy venue with people dancing almost every song we were never asked back and when we approached the venue they were evasive so we just stopped approaching them. It used to be my local bar when i was in my 20's so i know it well. What i found was that they didn't want to pay a full band fee when they can get a singer/guitarist in with backing tracks for half of what they pay a band. For me that is quite annoying as that particular bar had a long history of having live bands. Obviously owners want more profit from the night. One of my mates 5 piece band was offered £150 if they played two 1 hr sets. We were getting £300 so i'm assuming the solo player is getting same as a band. Mates band refused the gig and it was still his local bar. Dave

Was at the Rush Farewell to Kings tour at Glasgow Apollo where they used Closer to the Heart on the live album Exit Stage Left if i remember right. I was one of the crowd singing from the stalls. Happy days when people went to concerts to listen to the band and not sit gabbing a lot of s**t all night. Have to say there were far fewer women at rock/prog gigs back then. Just an observation. I'm guessing that might be an active bass. Looks like a complicated control panel there Dave -
I think i know what you mean now. It was when you mentioned digital mains i think of 110V power feeds. Digital sound and lighting i kinda understand the basics Dave
-
That sounded really good Daryl. Nice overall sound. Was bass thru PA too. Nice and deep but i can still hear a nice edge coming thru. Sounds like a very talented band. Love the girls voice, easy to listen to. What did you mean by "digital mains" ? Dave
-
That was very un-PC of me there. My apologies for that. Dave

Ampeg replied fairly quickly and said my SVT7 did not have an HPF filter ? I'm assuming they asked a techy type person and not just some wee girl in the office but you never know. Dave
-
Thanks for the feedback on it and let us know how it fairs on a gig situation to see if you notice it. I checked with Ampeg and they don't have in-built HPF on the SVT7 so it looks like i might eventually go for one too. I might check with Mesa to see if the Subway cabs have in-built HPF on them. I'm sure i read that somewhere. Dave

Beer Depot ? that sounds intriguing. Dave

What did you buy. Its hard to go in and come out with nothing. So many basses. Dave
-
Make the effort, they are superb musicians and great to watch. Dave

Where's that @TheGreek ? Dave

Smaller venue than we would normally do with the Glam band but the singer had played it solo before and knew the organisers. They paid same fee as a larger venue would so all was good, plus they laid on sandwiches, juice and water. Was a bit cramped too. Dave
-
Yep can't argue with that. Its taken me 40 yrs to find the right people. 3 of my Glam band are also in the Punk band so it makes things a lot easier. I'm in band nirvana at the moment. Hope you eventually find the right people too. It does make a huge difference to your outlook within a band. All the best with it. Dave

Tribute thing is good fun with the right people but there's never a guarantee with any band. Sounds like you've had enough tho. How long has new guitarist been with the band. ? Maybe just needs a bit more time to bed in ? Unless the guitarist is an experienced electrician or electrical background i'd be very wary of anything they've hobbled together for mains supply. You know the old saying :- "Red to green, black to brown and blue to F**k." Dave

100% that's how i look at low attendance gigs. Paid rehearsal and just enjoy it for what it is. Dave

Loving the stage gear with you and the singer. Nice one. Dave

BLOCKBUSTARZ Glam Rock covers gig tonight in a small bowling club in Polmont outside Falkirk. Sold Out tho and what a great wee night it turned out to be. They provided 2 trays of freshly made sandwiches from a shop supplier with water, soft drinks and crisps. Paid at half time too so that was nice and we've been re-booked for start of next year again. Great feedback and lots of dancing and people simply enjoying themselves. Varied age group as well which is always good seeing the different generations enjoy what we do. Sandberg VM4 running flat into Shure Wireless and then Ampeg SVT7 Pro almost flat EQ with just the bass boosted up to about 2 o'clock. Mesa SW210/115 cabs and my EBS Env filter for one song. Quite a quiet gig as we were well down on the amps and just using the smaller 12" QSC vocal PA. I find it difficult getting into a gig when its too quiet. I prefer a bit of volume to take my speakers into "working mode" where they sound a lot better. All in all a good night and well paid for such a small venue on a Fri night.
