Emergency Exit punk gig in The Cave in Paisley last night 6-9pm. Great wee gig with a very enthusiastic audience including a rather young looking girl who danced almost every song. Not sure if this link from Facebook will work. Dave http://www.facebook.com/jackie.mills.9889/videos/218513660945121/

Nice bass rig there. How are you finding it. First time i've seen one in a live gig situation to be honest. Dave

Its all getting very techy now and even tho i have an electrical / electronics background its way over my head. Obviously there's far more going on than i ever gave any thoughts to. When i bought my Handbox WB-100 it was made clear on the instructions not to mis-match the speaker impedance to the amp so i'm a lot more careful to make sure no damage is caused by mis-matching. With SS amps i just plug and play as my cabs are nearly always 8 ohm. If i have a choice i always go for 8ohm cab versions. Its just easier for me to calculate things. 1 cab = 8 ohm 2 cabs = 4 ohm 3 cabs = my brain hurts 4 cabs = i give up and go home. For bass players ........... just keep it simple is always best IMHO. Are the big Ampeg 810 cabs 4ohm ? Dave

Why has this not gone by now. You wont get a much better rig for this kind of money. Its an absolute steal. I had the luxury of playing thru one of these as a support band and it was one of the best sounding rigs i've used. If i hadn't gone down the Mesa route i would have taken this in a heartbeat. Surely this incredible offer has to go soon. Dave

Fender BXR 400 Dual Bass amp .... £149 (reduced)
dmccombe7 replied to eubassix's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Amazing amp and it has some nice extras for an amp from that era, ie compression, bi-amp crossover, Hi & Lo boost buttons. Bet that sounds fantastic. Big heavy amp but sometimes that's what you need for a big sound. Would love that amp but at my age it would be a bit of a struggle. GLWTS someone is gonna have a lot of fun with that beast. Dave -
Don't really know enough about it TBH but i have noted that some Ampegs only have 2 or 4 ohm on the back but the manual does state its not a problem running into an 8 ohm cab as you say @Hellzero I'll be guided by others that know better. Dave

I used to be the same until i bought my MarloweDK 2nd hand and now i really like them. Strangely i dont worry so much about it at gigs as i do my VM4 which were about same price. Was at a jam session with the Marlowe and another bassist said that was a beautiful old bass. He was so surprised when i said it was made circa 2016. It works well in my punk covers band tho. Dave

I'm good with that. My nickname in one of my bands is The Laird of Thankerton. (just a bit of fun because i live in countryside and dont work for a living anymore. Lord Dave sounds good. You may proceed with that ye olde peasants Lord Dave

what's wrong wie Dave Dave

Call mine by their model name but on occasion i use other terms like colour or a specific tag. VM4 or sometimes "white bass" MarloweDK or "red bass" "J bass" or "Geddy" "P bass" "PJ" or "green bass" My Overwater is called "Fretless" My other Overwater J4 is called "blue bass" Thumb bass is just called "Warwick" Dave

That's quite a description. I'm curious to know more now. NAH !!!! just play it and enjoy it. Dave

Assuming the Drive and Bright buttons aren't in use i have to admit i wouldn't expect to see a clip light on at that kind of Gain setting. At those low Gain settings your valves wont be doing much i reckon. ie they wont be overdriven which reduces valve life but even at that they should last up to 10 yrs i've been told by the Mesa design guy. What are your settings on the MM bass. ? Could be you have everything ramped full on your bass and maybe that could cause a clip. If it sounds fine and not distorting then i'd go with what @wateroftyne says. He has a lot of HB experience. Dave
-
pre-amp valves "should" last quite a few yrs. Unless you do have a faulty one which i'm sure would have surfaced before now. Have heard that the MM basses can be a very hot signal. What are your settings on bass and amp ? Dave

Playing songs with a pick and fingers in the same set
dmccombe7 replied to BillyBass's topic in General Discussion
We used to record all our rehearsals and no matter whether i played fingerstyle using my skin or with fingernails or even a pick there was very little difference on the playback yet i could definitely hear quite a difference at my end. Weird but ever so true. I guess i just sound like me no matter what i do. Dave -
Playing songs with a pick and fingers in the same set
dmccombe7 replied to BillyBass's topic in General Discussion
I play fingerstyle, cant get used to a pick, however i like the tone from players with picks so i grew my fingernails enough to catch the strings. Also reduces the risk of blisters on my wee delicate fingertips. When i did play with a pick at the beginning i decided to cover a pick with denim which gave me almost the same tone as my fingers at the time. I still have it. Here we go. Top one is my first pick that came with my first Columbas Jazz bass in mid 70's then a row of other picks / items i tried to get a specific tone. One is a flattened out half pence and below them is the famous denim pick and the bottom one is my current one in an attempt to play punk songs with a pick. I gave up and went back to my fingers and grew my nails a bit. I now add a couple of layers of clear matt nail varnish to harden the nails before a gig. Just my plucking fingers tho. I use a decent compressor to smooth out any volume changes whenever i attempt a pick. Just enough compression to keep the high levels even. Dave -
Nice outfit but love the bass. Dave

We've been finding quite a varied age group too with a lot of the younger generation getting into the Glam dressing up thing. Played a few clubs now and the Sun afternoon ones seem to be doing well. Long Live Glam. Dave
