I would have thought you just turned up and played at your gigs Pete. Iss that not what roadies are for. My biggest problem over the years is i can't sleep when its daylight. If its not the brightness its the daytime noises. I have blackout blinds but the cats love jumping up between the vertical slats and hey ho i'm awake as the sun hits our bedroom window in the mornings. I think you're right tho. Once you get into a routine of doing regular gigs its no different from doing most other jobs with odd hours. Dave

Jings you're just a few yrs less than me then and i have to admit i couldn't do that many gigs over a weekend. I've just put elixirs on one of my basses and they are easier on the fingers than the DR Black Beauties that seem to burn if you slide. The Elixirs don't do that altho they do have a fair bit more tension and i had to straighten the neck on the Sandberg by almost a full turn on the truss rod. Will see how they last. Between my 2 bands i have to remember around 85-90 songs that don't overlap as one band is Glam covers the other punk covers. Its a pain when one band hasn't played for a couple of mths and i need to rehearse at home to get back on top of them usually the punk songs 😀 Dave

Yes i do and she goes to all my gigs these days. Not the rehearsals tho. Maybe she doesn't trust me at gigs, but at my age she has no worries there. Dave

WOW just WOW All the very best with them. I personally couldn't do that many gigs as my finger tips would be leaking fluid when my blisters burst altho when i was gigging regularly few mths back i had no issues. Things have quietened down a bit this last month but picking up again soon. Still 5 gigs and a rehearsal in five days would kill me at my age. Impressed tho. Have fun and enjoy cause that's what its all about. Dave

Our gig on Sat was an early start for a Sat at 7:30 and due to finish 10:15pm because of noise complaints from neighbours. Here's me expecting to be home easily for 12pm. We ended up finishing at 10:30pm at request of audience to carry on. Everything packed up and loaded by 11:15pm. Had to sit around for approx 30mins until 11:45 before we got paid and bar was completely empty. I was expecting to be home for midnight but almost 1am. Its only an hours drive for me too. The things we do for enjoyment. Its a great wee venue that we play regularly and i'm not sure how long she's going to be able to keep putting bands on. It annoys me when people move next door to a bar that has live music and then complain about noise. They now have an excuse that due to pandemic they got used to weekends being quiet. Dave

Yep love those Sunday afternoon club gigs with the Glam covers band. Usually well attended and always a great audience participation. Home by 6-7pm what's not to like about that. Dave

It comes with Marmalade and delivered by Desperate Dan. 😂 Dave

Emergency Exit punk covers band in one of our regular bar gig in Dumfries at The Riverside. As always it was a great night with a decent sized and enthusiastic audience. We had a local Ramones fan and guest singer for one of their songs which was good fun altho we changed the key for our female singer and i think he struggled to reach the higher notes in some areas. Our own singer Lynn covered those bits with him so all good. After the gig we were asked if we would be interested in doing a local festival next year so that was good. This was taken at sound check and we even got a cheer and round of applause doing the sound check which is always a nice feeling. We even had a couple that travelled from Gretna to the gig. They booked a taxi for 11pm to get home at £50. I remembered them form last time we played there. Sold 8 of our new T shirts last night too as modelled by our singer in the pic below. Early start 7:30pm finished 10:30 with 15min break Dave

Agree on the Dundee audiences. They do seem to have an enthusiastic attitude to live bands. They just love live music by looks of it. Dave

100W Stoneham valve amp - small footprint, lighter weight
dmccombe7 replied to Merton's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think we all might agree, not so much sad but more disturbed comes to mind Dave -
Nice one Daryl, good to hear it went well plus its sunny out there in the wild west. 👍 Dave

If the band are able to do the gig Daryl then go for it. Using a Dep guitarist could be tricky but you are all competent musicians that can cope with minor changes with the dep guitarist. Look forward to a report on how it goes. Wish you well with it mate. Dave

Shergold twin neck 4/8 string...
dmccombe7 replied to itsmedunc's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
They did start making them after mine but when i bought mine they didn't do custom work and making an 8 string neck was probably a bit too expensive if it was just going to be a one off. I can only imagine the 8 string demand must have grown for a spell. Mike Rutherford had an 8 string Hagstrom bass if i remember correctly and that's why i wanted the 4 and 8 string. I do remember it being a very heavy beast especially when i was on 5'9" and 9.5st. The weight was the main reason i traded it for an Aria SB1000. Dave -
Shergold twin neck 4/8 string...
dmccombe7 replied to itsmedunc's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I owned the black one which was their first attempt at an 8 string where they converted their 6 string bass for me. I'm assuming the serial number would be 001 Dave -
Trying to emulate a synth part and envelope filter is the nearest thing to it but still keeping it simple. I'll certainly try your suggestion tho and if that works i'm a pedal less on stage. Dave
-
Curious but do you use them all during a gig ? If so what kind of music are you playing. ? That's a lot of pedals and this is the small board Dave.
-
With Glam band its active Bass, Wireless, Envelope filter (for 8 bars in one song) and amp. Wireless has built in tuner and amp has built in compressor. With punk band its passive Bass, lead and amp. Tuner is run from the Amp tuner out. Dave

Cheers Michael. Pre-ordered. I didn't think £26 was too bad. Will be part of my Xmas too. Dave -
Arriving, reflecting and departing - music for your funeral
dmccombe7 replied to snorkie635's topic in General Discussion
I've thought about this over the years and haven't settled on any specific songs for entrance and leave but the reflection part was down to these 2 I did think Camel Fox Hill just for the very last word in the song right at the end so i put it on the bottom here. Its a bit long at 8mins tho. Entry would be good to have something from Genesis Seconds Out album, maybe Suppers Ready Dave -

Shergold twin neck 4/8 string...
dmccombe7 replied to itsmedunc's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Just came across this and i was the original owner of that twin neck bass. I can confirm it was a one off requested by me. They didn't make 8 string basses and we agreed to convert their 6 string bass into an 8. Pretty sure it was around 77 if i remember right by the time i actually got it. Cost me £630 Here is an old pic of the said bass. Tried to find it at one point to buy it back. Guy in London area was advertising it on Gumtree and as soon as i mentioned i was the original owner he removed the advert obviously stolen and he thought i was after it. That was about 10yrs ago i think. Dave -
That's good to know as i love the MM Stingray tone but not so much the necks. This could be an ideal option. Dave

BLOCKBUSTARZ 70's Glam covers band at Lilliardsedge Holiday Park near Jedburgh. First time playing in a fairly large marquee. When it was empty at sound check the sound was just getting lost but once people in it sounded pretty good but we'll be better prepared for any future gigs there or similar and bring our own digital desk. Originally thought this was an easy one with PA and lighting supplied. When we arrived and setting up i asked where the on stage monitors were and was told "we don't have any" Nice decent PA to be fair. Next we asked where the mic leads etc were kept so we could get our gear up and running and was told "we don't have anything like that". Was then told acts / bands normally bring their own desk and run 2 feeds to their desk / PA. BL checked back the history of messages and showed them they had confirmed that full PA was supplied. Luckily the singer was doing a solo show following day and loaded his small 4 channel desk in his car to save time tomorrow. We ran 3 mics and his acoustic guitar into it and then into main PA. Drums, guitars and bass were on their own. Good job i brought both my Mesa cabs. 2 x 45min sets but we were told by the organiser we could basically do whatever we wanted and finish when we feel like it. We stuck to 1st set as it was and added 2 songs into 2nd set. Used my Sandberg VM4 as always into Shure GLXD wirelss and into Ampeg SVT7 Pro and Mesa SW210/115 cabs. That Ampeg just seems to get better every gig i use it plus its loud. Have to say i'm now getting that valve sound with a bit more clarity that was in my head as the adverts states. All in all it was a good gig and enjoyed it. Girl came over from Ireland specifically to see us and was staying at the park. Classic car group specifically booked this weekend so they could see us. Luckily we recognised some bikers from other rallies we've played over the years so it was a good night. Main road back to Edinburgh A68 closed and had to find backroads to get around it ended up in Melrose which was lucky and way home was clear. Couldn't use this route on way down because of all the blooming road closures for the UCI bike events in the borders areas. Pain in the a**e. No pics or vids as yet but if any appear i'll post. Dave
