The problem i have is with the long wigs and outfits i wear in the Glam band i cant easily put a bass strap over the hair and outfits and its far easier to slip the strap under the hair on the shoulder and then just fasten it to the bass and with schallers its fast and easy. It wouldn't work well if i had to unclip or remove grolsch style washers while holding the bass. It just looks a bit clumsy for me anyways. Once i remove the bass from the strap i just slip the strap off my shoulder rather than over the hair. (see my avatar for what i mean) Dave

There's a saddler at Glenmoriston, Loch Ness that i visit most years when on holiday at Loch Ness. He normally does belts etc but many moons ago he did a few guitar straps and i bought one. It was only 2.5" wide and plain very soft type of leather sort of light brown in colour. It was so comfy and i used it with all my basses until someone stole it out of my case at one of those multi-band gigs i had organised with the band i was in. I was doing the lights when not playing so wasn't able to keep a check on my basses in the green room. Darn i was furious but it went missing after i played that night so must have been after the event while we were dismantling PA and lights. The guy is still there making belts and the odd guitar strap but he's now using a much stiffer leather that i found too hard for my tastes. Dave

Ouch !!! there goes my delicate little feelings again. You can be so harsh @Dad3353. Dave

With regards schaller's loosening off, i've had that on occasion but now i always check before i leave the house that the nuts are tight and no movement in the strap locks or buttons on the basses. I've just gotten into the habit of giving the nut a quick finger tightness check on a regular basis. Never thought about using a spot of thread lok to help keep them safe. Dave

For a gig with the punk band and a venues anniversary party we played i had to buy a T shirt and punkify it with hand painted designs, tears and safety pins. Is that relic'ing or just modifying and personalising Dave

quite vintage looking. Nice. Dave

Quite liking the look of their straps in Bass Direct. Curious what strap locks you use there / Dave
-
Where did you get the Couch strap ? Haven't seem them advertised in UK. ? Dave
-
I'm sure i bought a Comfort strap when they first came out but the rectangular ring that holds the shoulder section to the material section was plastic and it broke. It may have been another similar manufacturer but the company soon changed to a metal ring. It was comfortable enough but that ring breaking put me right off them. Dave

I have a couple of the Mono Betty straps but don't find them overly comfortable compared to my Gruvgear one. I keep a Mono strap in my bag as a spare fitted with schaller strap locks for a quick change out in event of Gruvgear catastrophic failure which is unlikely but you never know. Dave

Haven't come across this new version of schallers TBH. Mine are all nut to tighten. Will check that out to see what you guys are talking about and my curiosity. Dave

Have to say my schallers do squeak with the metal to metal around the button. Its only when you are taking them on and off and not when i'm playing. Usually the weight of the bass keeps them tight on the strap. Also not had any issues with the schallers fitting them except recent buttons came with a screw thread attached rather than a separate sccrew meaning you cant re-use the old screw if they are different threads. Dave

that's nice, where did you get it from. Searches dont show it anywhere. Can only find 2" guitar straps. Dave

I had a back / shoulder issue good few yrs back and was the main reason i used the Gruvgear Duo strap to ease pressure on one shoulder. Once the issue had resolved i went down to just the single strap from the Duo and its been great. Definitely helped me altho mine was down to twisting my back and shoulder that just wouldn't go away. Either that or i just wasn't used to wearing my basses for long periods at a time as i had been away from bands for a while. My Sandberg basses also make a huge difference being lighter than my Jazz bass. Dave
-
Yep that's perfect. That's maybe why mine are a little stiff to remove. The button is sticky rather than the actual attached surfaces. Much appreciated @Dad3353. Dave
-
I dont have the dunlop type but do you mean into the spring actuated button rather than on the bass button to lock surface areas. ? Dave
-
The vaseline based oil / grease is a good idea. I'll try that. Dave
-
How did you find the Levy strap. I have been looking at those recently too. Dave
-
Just curious what Bass Straps people are using these days and why you like it. So much variety out there. I'm currently using a Gruvgear Duo strap (3" wide) as a single strap. Wasn't long enough when i bought it and the extension straps weren't available back then so i used a section of leather belt and punched my own holes to suit. Has to be the comfiest strap i've ever used. Dave

I also have my wireless transmitter case permanently fixed to my strap so i tend to use one strap for all my basses. I have had to replace a lot of the standard buttons for the schaller type. These are the D'addario ones out at the moment. The first one apparently allows the strap to stay closer to the bass. Dave
