I did look at them before buying my Handbox WB-100 but it would overhang my Mesa cabs and that drove me crazy with the Mesa in its flightcase. If i was younger or had roadies to lift my gear i've always fancied an SVT but at 40+ Kg its way too much. Dave

thanks Ped you are a true gent. Dave

Ooops 100% i'll correct that. Got caught up in the excitement............... even at my age Nope i can't access the title to change it. Maybe one of the Mods can change it to NAD. @ped if you have time. Sorry for my dafty mistook Dave

I'll be able to get a better idea at soundcheck tomorrow but it does sound really nice at home thru my Mesa PH212. I have the amp set with bass at 2 o'clock mid 2 o'clock and freq 3 selected, treble at 12 o'clock. HI & LO are mostly off and selected as and when needed. I've used the compression a touch but will see how it fairs at gig volumes tomorrow. I definitely like the simplicity of it, much the same as my Handbox. My Mesa Mpulse i only use the basic EQ and on occasion when the venue requires i'll bring in the para EQ. Which Ampeg and cab(s) are you using @Reggaebass. ? Dave

As many of you might be aware I've been holding off for a new Mesa TT800 for the past few yrs now but couldn't resist this Ampeg SVT7 Pro on sale here by our very own @Berserker at a really good price. Having owned an SVT4 Pro few yrs back and loved the tone but it was an older one that had too many issues for me to rely on I thought i would give Ampeg another try. Have to say i've been using it at home now for a couple of weeks and WOW it certainly does impress. It has that typical Ampeg SVT Pro tone, deep, clear and simple to use. I can set up my normal tone with the basic EQ and when i need that deep lower tone i hit the LO button and when i need a more Ric style tone i hit both LO and HI buttons and the great thing is the overall volume doesn't change very much at all. This would save me having to use my Roland mfx unit. (i just need to get an envelope filter for Virginia Plain) Built in compressor seems to do a decent job too. Doesn't kill the low end. Amp master volume is still very low at home probably 8-9 o'clock with an 8 ohm cab. My other amps i would have a bit louder than this with same cab when using at home. I have no direct neighbours to worry about and have triple glazing Have a gig with my Glam covers band tomorrow afternoon with just a vocal PA and using backline in a club that holds circa 150. Will see how it fairs tomorrow. If all is good i think my amp GAS might be well and truly sorted and i'll leave the Mesa. Dave

That also means you have more carrying, more set up and when things go wrong everyone will look at you as if you are a drummer. Sure you will enjoy it and have fun which is what its all about. Dave

Well done. Was this pic taken when you got lost in Whisky guitar solo as they're all looking at you. Dave

Pretty sure a local tech would fix. They aren't a complex amp. Dave

I couldn't see the tethers but that's the way to do it. Sounds like a good company to know. Certainly a great job on mix. Dave

Just wonder how steady it is with the narrow height. The weight probably keeps it solid to the bass bins. Maybe they are secured in some way that i cant see. Possibly a locking mechanism once in situ. ? Have to say the sound was spot on and really enjoyed the band. Dave
-
Ooohh that was good, enjoyed that. I can't help but think that array looks a bit unsafe TBH. Dave

I always go back to J style basses. Owned or tried so many other basses but i just prefer playing a nice J style bass. I include my MarloweDK as one of my J basses. I just like the combination of neck size and tones available. Dave

I def aint no youngster and not far behind him. Dave

Pre-amp tubes can give you a sore one if not careful. Safer in a way than power amp tubes but still care is required at all times. Dave
-
To be honest i was a bit wary of posting that as there is always a risk of death involved with anything electrical especially if you don't know what you're doing. Dave
-
Not sure whether i should say this but sometimes a loose circuit board connector can cause this type of issue, even a loose preamp valve, perhaps happening during transit. I have an electrical / electronic background and appreciate the hazards involved in this but i would remove the cover and using a plastic rod or even the round end of a plastic pen just push down on any circuit board connectors to make sure they are fully seated. Even try removing and replacing the pre-amp valve but only if you are confident and capable. There is a risk of shock from stored energy in capacitors and valves even tho an amp is unplugged from the mains. Dave
-
Yep i've always found that there's a point where the energy is felt on stage but its still not deafening. Once you find that point you just remember where your volumes were and start from there. Some venues have asked us to turn down the guitar and bass amps so they can control sound out front but you need to balance your amp against the drummers volume on stage otherwise you cant hear yourself over the drums unless they have a decent monitor system and know how to use it. Dave
-
Same here Dave. My current drummer says he has to to hear the bass. Same drummer in both bands so that's handy. Dave
-
Perhaps its because the younger generation are listening to MP3 downloads rather than vinyl or CD and don't generally hear the low and high ends. In my day we all had Hi-fi separates with decent speakers so we could hear the bass and treble clearly. Nowadays its all earplugs or smaller bluetooth speakers. Something has got lost in the translation. They don't know what they're missing. Dave

Seems a bit extreme to buy a new one or go for the WB-100 when it might be a simple fix by your local tech. When my tech guy looked at my first WB-100 he said it was a basic all valve amp and no big issues working on it if it came to it. Dave
-
Depending how busy he is it can take a few days to a week before he'll reply. Is it a new or 2nd hand one. It might be easier to take to a local tech guy rather than return it to Poland. Postage is a pain and can take weeks to get it there and same on way back. There's nothing in the amps that a decent tech couldn't sort. Dave
-
Not sure what's going on there but i've had issues with some amps doing odd things when the mains plug at the back hasn't been fully inserted. Other than that maybe a message to HB see what they suggest. Dave

Not shipping to UK is enough to put me off buying their basses again. Dave

He's not bad for a 73 yr old to be fair. Dave

We thoroughly enjoyed it Lee. Sound where i was standing was great. Bass level dropped a bit where Ted your SE was standing with the desk tablet. That was a bit unusual but overall it was a great night. Choice of songs was brilliant. When you started i thought you were copying my bands sets doing T.Rex then Undertones. Liked that J bass and you had a nice warm rounded tone thru the Fender amp. Singer is excellent covering a fair range of styles there. Have to say your own vocals are excellent but you lack a bit of self confidence there so get into it and don't be so shy about your singing. It was good. Young guitarist did a top job with all the solos. Drummer was solid and nice DW kit too altho not sure i would tell him otherwise. He was quite well built lad. All in all it was great to finally see your band and catch up with you and Ted again. Last time was at Ted;s gig in same venue. The guy next to me was also a drummer and Ted your SE is a guitarist singer so you had the best audience for a gig in your local bar You did well, i enjoyed it and i was sober too. Dave
