  1. Thought i'd revive this thread to see if anyone is using any of the newer strap locks. I've been using the schaller ones for approx 15yrs now and find them pretty good but the metal to metal can make it difficlut to remove the strap at end of the gig. Because of the outfits i have to wear in the Glam band putting the strap over my head and trying to adjust the long wigs is a bit of a nightmare. I now put the strap on my shoulder and under the hair before fixing the bass to the strap and reverse when finished the set. My main issue with the schallers is the metal to metal can get tight and difficult to remove. Seen some new D'addario types including universal locks and the new straps with locks fitted altho they only come in 2" wide straps which are too thin for my wee shoulders. Anyone any updates on this topic. Dave
  2. Scott Devine Jazz model. He's a good friend of Chris May. Met them both at Moffat Bass Bash one year just after i bought my Overwater custom. Nice guy too. Dave
  3. That's good to know as i was looking at them this afternoon Dave
  4. But a good gig and that's what its all about. 👍
  5. and they've made you a better man. 👍 Dave
  6. You did Andy, don't let others put you down for being a free spirit. Dave
  7. I guess you could even say that about P and J basses.
  8. They do seem to be the Marmite of the bass world. For the money that's not a good place to be especially as a manufacturer. At the end of the day they have a waiting list to get one now and you cant find any in our local shops so something is working for them. Either that or they aren't making as many as they used to. Dave
  9. I've heard that about other strings too so i guess its just bad luck. I've been buying mine thru Amazon so not sure what i'd do if that happened to one of the strings ? Dave
  10. Yep i have felt that too and now try to avoid over sliding. I have noted its only when my hands sweat during a gig. Doesn't happen at home or sound check or even the first few songs. If they last longer than standard strings it will be worthwhile for me. Dave
  11. And a good job too cause i missed this thread first time around and having a touch of GAS for a Ric again its nice to see what folks are saying about them these days. Dave
  12. Went back to it again and it doesn't seem to be as noticeable as it was earlier today. This was a quick thread. All good now Dave
  13. Thanks @ped that's good news as they aint cheap. I was wondering why i didn't experience an issue with my MarloweDK when i fitted them with it being passive too. I know Jazz style basses do suffer more hum than other basses. Dave
  14. I have DR Beauties on my Sandberg VM4 and MarloweDK and love them. Decided to fit on my P bass but i get crackling especially noticeable with tone full up. Its like an earth crackle and if i rest my hand on the bridge it stops. I'm a fingerstyle player so that's a problem for me. The bass is properly earthed. I'm sure i had same problem when i tried Elixirs on my Jazz bass and just went back to standard strings. Was wondering if going wireless would stop it getting to the amp ? Has anyone else experienced this problem with coated strings. ? Any thoughts on how to get around this problem. Dave
  15. Its an odd thing but i like my Jazz basses to have that top end Ric sound so why i've never bought another Ric surprises me altho the price of a new one is kinda off-putting but a decent 2nd hand one can be had for under £2k. I dont recall any issues with the actual bass dimensions or weight to be honest. Dave
  16. I bought a Ric in 80's and couldn't master the tone finding it very limiting. Sold it within few mths for a Jazz bass. I still have Gas for another and the new ones have that push pull knob that for me offers a more modern tone that I prefer. None about to rest tho but I do fancy another one.
  17. Mate had a white Epi T'bird with neck thru that looked gorgeous and he said it wasn't too bad for neck dive. Dave
  18. Would maybe knock enough sense in him to keep him well away from a bass headstock. Dave
  19. That's always handy to know the Blackstar amps are ok. Like the look of a T bird but having had an Epi version the neck dive was a bit ridiculous even when i moved the strap pins. Are the Gibson ones better. They do have a distinct sound, deep and solid. Have to say you've put me in GAS for one of those Red Rics again. At some point i'll try one of the new ones and maybe go for it. I like the tone of a Ric as its basically what i like in a bass tone. I love my Jazz basses but i adjust my eq to get as close to a standard Ric tone so i'm wondering why i dont just buy a Ric 👍 Dave
  20. Eventful weekend plus you now have a bodyguard for when touring. You definitely have a cracking image @Cat Burrito the hat does make you stand out from the crowd based on pics you've posted. Keep it up sir. So how did the Blackstar amp and T'bird do. I've seen a few of the Blackstar bass amps as venue backline amps now and wondered how they stand up at a gig. Dave Dave
  21. I'm guessing the footswitch would let you switch between the channels and possibly combine both. Dave
  22. WOW that's something i've never seen before. Very nice indeed. GLWTS Dave
  23. Our gig at a private party for friends had to be cancelled when 2 of the band got covid. Party went ahead and it was a good night altho the karaoke singers need to work on their vocals. I was driving so just stayed for 3 hrs and headed home again. Dave
