  1. I used to be the same until i bought my MarloweDK 2nd hand and now i really like them. Strangely i dont worry so much about it at gigs as i do my VM4 which were about same price. Was at a jam session with the Marlowe and another bassist said that was a beautiful old bass. He was so surprised when i said it was made circa 2016. It works well in my punk covers band tho. Dave
  2. I'm good with that. My nickname in one of my bands is The Laird of Thankerton. (just a bit of fun because i live in countryside and dont work for a living anymore. Lord Dave sounds good. You may proceed with that ye olde peasants Lord Dave
  3. Because !!! Dave
  4. Ever since seeing Geddy Lee use one for warm up in his changing room before a gig i wanted one. They just looked so modern even in this day and age they still look great amps. Great reputation too Unfortunately i already have 4 amps and no space for another. GLWTS Dave
  5. what's wrong wie Dave Dave
  6. Call mine by their model name but on occasion i use other terms like colour or a specific tag. VM4 or sometimes "white bass" MarloweDK or "red bass" "J bass" or "Geddy" "P bass" "PJ" or "green bass" My Overwater is called "Fretless" My other Overwater J4 is called "blue bass" Thumb bass is just called "Warwick" Dave
  7. That's quite a description. I'm curious to know more now. NAH !!!! just play it and enjoy it. Dave
  8. Assuming the Drive and Bright buttons aren't in use i have to admit i wouldn't expect to see a clip light on at that kind of Gain setting. At those low Gain settings your valves wont be doing much i reckon. ie they wont be overdriven which reduces valve life but even at that they should last up to 10 yrs i've been told by the Mesa design guy. What are your settings on the MM bass. ? Could be you have everything ramped full on your bass and maybe that could cause a clip. If it sounds fine and not distorting then i'd go with what @wateroftyne says. He has a lot of HB experience. Dave
  9. pre-amp valves "should" last quite a few yrs. Unless you do have a faulty one which i'm sure would have surfaced before now. Have heard that the MM basses can be a very hot signal. What are your settings on bass and amp ? Dave
  10. We used to record all our rehearsals and no matter whether i played fingerstyle using my skin or with fingernails or even a pick there was very little difference on the playback yet i could definitely hear quite a difference at my end. Weird but ever so true. I guess i just sound like me no matter what i do. Dave
  11. I play fingerstyle, cant get used to a pick, however i like the tone from players with picks so i grew my fingernails enough to catch the strings. Also reduces the risk of blisters on my wee delicate fingertips. When i did play with a pick at the beginning i decided to cover a pick with denim which gave me almost the same tone as my fingers at the time. I still have it. Here we go. Top one is my first pick that came with my first Columbas Jazz bass in mid 70's then a row of other picks / items i tried to get a specific tone. One is a flattened out half pence and below them is the famous denim pick and the bottom one is my current one in an attempt to play punk songs with a pick. I gave up and went back to my fingers and grew my nails a bit. I now add a couple of layers of clear matt nail varnish to harden the nails before a gig. Just my plucking fingers tho. I use a decent compressor to smooth out any volume changes whenever i attempt a pick. Just enough compression to keep the high levels even. Dave
  12. Nice outfit but love the bass. Dave
  13. We've been finding quite a varied age group too with a lot of the younger generation getting into the Glam dressing up thing. Played a few clubs now and the Sun afternoon ones seem to be doing well. Long Live Glam. Dave
  14. Almost the exact same here. 15 / 16 when i started but never played regular gigs until i got into my 50's and now playing quite a lot between my two bands. Dave
  15. I'll just stick to being helpful to people i know on BC. Dave
  16. That's not good. great quality gear too. Hope its an easy fix. Our PA is all QSC, 12's, 15's and subs. Dave
  17. That explains it a bit for me as i always thought hockey pucks were very hard. Must be the softer ones they were talking about. Dave
  18. As much as i enjoy being on BC and i am on here a lot i find on some occasions when you try to be helpful and offer advice you get met with criticism and sarcasm when there's no call for it. Puts a bit of a damper on the enjoyment. i've seen a lot of that on TB. Shame really, puts me off trying to be helpful to others on here. Dave
  19. I use Mesa SW210 / 115 cabs and a stand wouldn't really work for me. Depending on the band / gig i can use it with or without PA support. I use the Gramma pad on wooden hollow stage where there's a chance of low frequency boom. If i use it for every gig i could probably keep exact same settings for every venue. It does work well but i'm never happy with the stack wobble. The cabs do have rubber feet but in some circumstances i was still getting stage boom. Dave
  20. I did but it makes it easier for the buyer if its all already in the post. I don't know what Barefaced have in production or what is new or old models. If its an older model it may not be on the website now. Don't see why its such a big deal to include some details of what is being sold rather than "cab for sale" Dave
  21. Sadly i have limited Freeview that doesn't include 11. That's what happens when you live in Scotland's countryside. Limited transmission and poor reception as well as broadband that comes and goes by post. Dave
  22. i had no idea this was still happening. Beggars belief really. We had a venue that didn't pay us when they said they would and after a few mths of excuses i was prepared to go to small claims court with them but our drummer has a lot more patience than me and asked me to wait and he'll chase them up. They finally paid after he pestered them for another month. They also have a reputation for not paying and i believe one band has even started a FB page on it. (it wasn't us) Dave
  23. Just a helpful suggestion. Maybe add a bit more detail if you can. i.e. dimensions, weight, watts. etc It would save people having to do a search to get all the specs. I'm not up to speed with Barefaced cabs but i hear great things about them. Seems like a good price for a Barefaced 2x12 cab to be fair. GLWTS Dave
  24. I decided to just get a Fender hi-mass bridge. I have one on my PJ bass and its been ok. Only £25 so not a major loss if its rubbish. Dave
