I saw you mention this earlier too and wasn't aware of that either. I'm learning more about DP and Coverdale early days than i thought possible. I always assumed i knew the history but NOPE you can teach an old dog new tricks after all. Never too old to learn. Oddly enough it was an older guy i worked with that told me about some of the 60's rock bands including Trapeze and Iron Butterfly and when i listened to Trapeze i was fair taken aback with them. Hughes vocals were superb and to this day i still class him as an influence on how i play more so for the tone he gets and the feel of the songs he writes. Dave

Its funny with Paul Rodgers being mentioned i can hear similarities in Coverdale's vocals on this that i had never really noticed before. Must admit that i preferred earlier Whitesnake because there was more definition across the band. This sounds good. I have the first few Whitesnake albums with Fool for your Loving being one of my fave rock songs. Dave

Definitely didn't think the MM pup sounded like a Stingray pup. Nothing like it. It lacks the bite or edge of the Stingray. I tend to run my VM4 pick up selector in the centre point. It just suits what i'm doing in the Glam covers band. I will tweak the treble up and down to suit the different basses used back in the day and i can go from a smooth P bass tone to an edgy Ric-ish type tone or enough so to hear that treble edge come thru the mix. Audience probably never notice the difference but it makes me feel better. 😂 Dave

You've now convinced me to put a passive California VS4 on my GAS list. Unfortunately that list just gets bigger and bigger. 😂 Dave

Thanks for that Matt. I've seen the Electra basses for sale in BD at circa £600 or thereabouts but not sure how good they are compare to the California range. The passive California VS4's are quite rare. Most i see are the active ones. Dave

I had no idea DC had 2 solo albums before Whitesnake band started and always thought Trouble was his first album after DP. Every day a scchool day on BC. Cheers for that Pete, i'll go have a listen to them now. Dave

Out of curiosity were the VS4 and TT4 the California range or Electra versions. ? I like the P bass tone but the quality of Fender is nowhere near the Sandbergs i have. Dave

I have a VM4 & MarloweDK. As mentioned the VM4 works well in covers bands but i've also found the humbucker lacked a bit of bite. It's never really sounded much more than a standard J pick up. Its playability is what sells it for me. I use it in a 70's Glam covers band where it works very well. Oddly enough the MarloweDK didn't work too well in the Glam band and couldn't quite cut thru as well as the VM4. On the other hand the Marlowe works far better in my 70's punk covers band and cuts thru really well. It does sound similar to my Geddy J but with a little more depth of tone. Not sure any of that helped with the VM4 versus VT4 issue. Dave

Used to play Perfect Strangers in a DP tribute back in 2012. It was a great song to play but not an easy one to get timing right as a band. I'm sure we had some minor issues in the mid section. Dave

To be honest i've never really been a big Beatles fan but i watched the movie "Yesterday" when it came out and it got me listening to all those classic songs they did. Watched it again the other night and i'm now looking for a best off CD. They had some amount of hits in their relatively short time together. Dave

Jim Lea tends to play quite rhythmically and i can see why it might be easier to sing while playing especially if you play with a pick. Love playing his basslines even tho i play fingerstyle. Dave

Good to see things moving on the R-400's too. Have to say i'm so chuffed with the WB-100 and i'm sure Leszek will have put the same effort into everything he does. My original concerns about not being loud enough have been put to rest as i've never gone above 11 o'clock on the master with Gain between 12 and 2 o'clock. Dave
