  1. If a wife loves you enough she'll let you rehearse in the house. Obviously i rehearse in a studio and she doesn't follow BC. Dave
  2. The new Shure GLXD16+ has arrived. Bit of a pain that there's no manual inside the box. You need to download it. Transmitter on charge first and once that's done i'll give it a go. Have to say its pretty solid built. A lot sturdier than i expected so that can only be a plus in my book. I've now downloaded the manual so i'm raring to go. Dave
  3. I jest of course.
  4. Have you considered noise cancelling headphones for the baby / youngster. Keep the bass sound true and go with altering your surroundings to accommodate the bass. Job done Dave
  5. Ah, i didn't think of that either. I just assumed it was for the DI output.
  6. To be honest i have considered getting one just to be on the safe side at gigs where SE isn't quite so knowledgeable. Dave
  7. Great stuff and hope you are as happy as i am with the WB-100. I've not had any issues with the DI out at gigs. Few SE's have mentioned the DI is quite hot but they manage to make adjustments at the desk and it doesn't affect me on stage. I'd try it first before buying the attenuator. Keep us posted on how you get on. The one thing i would point out is to ALWAYS think about where you plug your cab into. On some gigs i use one cab in 8 ohm socket and other gigs 2 cabs into 4 ohm socket. I always take time to confirm what i'm doing with cabs at gigs. Getting impedance wrong can result in damage to the amp. Otherwise great amp to work with. Dave
  8. Might be a silly one but have any of the mic stands got the centre pole touching the floor. The tripod legs have rubber stops on them that prevent the mic picking up bass drone but if the centre pole is touching floor it can transmit the bass vibration up to the mic itself. Had that in rehearsals a few times where previous bands have left stands that way and we didn't notice until we started playing. Its usually a low end hum / drone tho. Dave
  9. Had a similar experience while back at a rehearsal and a fellow BC'er explained it to me. I was getting a low hum on certain notes and as explained its to do with the bass amp sitting on same axis as his vocal mic. If i had turned the bass amp a few degrees one way or the other it would have altered the frequency and stopped it happening. I tried this at the next rehearsal and sure enough he was spot on. Now i tend to turn my cab slightly off forward facing at gigs and very slightly inwards but not perpendicular to drummers vocal mic. Oddly enough i've never had this issue with drum mics altho they are usually placed at angles on drums. Hope that makes sense. Dave
  10. When i was working I used to be same 5-6am every morning and if i wakened and it was daylight i was out of bed. Summer was a pain. The good news is that when you retire you do return to decent sleep hours 11pm to 8am on many occasions but usually cats get me up around 7am. Retirement does have its plus side provided you keep yourself fit and healthy. Hopefully that gives you a light at the end of the tunnel Dave
  11. That's good to know Dave
  12. Now that made me laugh a fair bit more than it should for some strange reason. Simple things i reckon. Dave
  13. Never too old for a bit of rock n roll. Dave
  14. As far as i know and at £550 it had better. Not seen any negative reviews or comments on it or its predecessor. It has a gain value you can adjust for each bass you use but until i get it i wont know for shure 😂 What was happening with your boss WD50 when using an active bass. Could you not flick the bass onto passive mode see if it made a difference. ? Dave
  15. From what i can gather the GLXD16+ transmits on 3 different frequencies at same time and if one sees interference its automatically switches to the next stronger channel. Until i get the unit and the manual i'm kinda assuming some of this from what i've seen in youtube clips and read in reviews. Dave
  16. Not sure what you mean ? I have a Smooth Hound for yrs and just fire it up and away it goes. Are the Shure systems different. I thought you just pressed a button and it auto scanned ? Dave
  17. It seems to give it more character and takes it away from the standard look of VM4. Like that colour on it. Very nice indeed. Dave
  18. Finally made a decision to go for the new Shure GLXD16+. Expensive but should be reliable and last a long time. Bought from Guitar Guitar who had them in stock and will be delivered Tues. That gives me a chance to test at a rehearsal next weekend and a gig following weekend. Dual band version and seems to get good reviews on the earlier version and from what i could find on this version. 3 yr warranty so that has to be a good thing. Thanks as always for all the advice guys. Always appreciated. Dave
  19. Yep that's quite smart @mcnach No point me removing mine as its white on white bass Dave
  20. Looks like it has and possibly replaced by the GLXD + which has dual band transmission. Shure do others like GLXD4, 14 but not sure the main differences unless its the number of channels. Dave
  21. Thought i would re-instate this to see what's new on the market. I've had a few minor niggles with interference and buzz thru my Smooth hound and been looking at what's out there. What Shure GLXD are you guys using as there seems to be a few different versions with numbers after the letters and some discontinued now. I use a pedal board in one of my bands so i'm thinking a floor mounted receiver might be better for me otherwise i'd need to run cables from the amp to my Roland Mfx unit and back again. Any updates welcome. Dave
  22. Possibly just the natural valve compression. Dave
  23. Yep £840 i paid and that included P&P but i think he was surprised how much the postage was to the UK now and said he made a loss on the postage but had already quoted me a price and stood by it. Superbly packaged too with the amp in its HB padded box and then placed inside another box and that was packed with padding too. Postage can take a few weeks because of customs checks. I didn't pay any customs charges on the first one i got but the 2nd one i had to pay £47 charges via customs. I would assume circa £900 and you shouldn't be far away. Dave
  24. Got mine last year at circa £840 i think it was. I'll check my messages as i had long PM discussions with a few others waiting for amps. Dave
  25. Yep the weight and size is a huge bonus on the WB-100. I'm using mine at every gig now. I was initially concerned it might not be powerful enough but its managed some large 150-200 people venues without PA support and still some left in the tank too. That's me running it with gain at 1 o'clock or thereabouts and master at 11 max. I started with most of the EQ flat but after seeing WoT's comments about boosting the mids a fair bit i gave it a try and it certainly made a big difference in cutting thru the mix in both punk and glam bands.
