Luckily our drummer is very savvy on all of this stuff having played stadium venues when he was younger. He tends to spot all the sneakiness of organisers / promoters. Also its all his PA so he is very careful with it. Dave

Is it a multi band event. ? Over here venues generally only hire a PA and lighting themselves when its a multi band event to save swap over time. We've been asked a few times with the punk band to do a support slot for well known bands and after we agree a fee the organiser comes out with the "can you bring your PA and the headline band can use it too". At that point we say NO THANKS. We're not giving a free PA hire for another headliner band meaning we need to hang around all night and do the Sound Engineering bit until they finish. I have no issues if we are headlining and on last and support band wants to use our PA. It just comes across as a very sneaky manoeuvre. Dave

Thanks Daryl, according to my wife the first set had something not quite right for us but she couldn't say what it was. She goes to every gig. On hearing some other clips from the organiser it sounded like we were too quiet. With the venue filling up a lot more than we expected we more or less set our normal volume. On 2nd set we turned up and it brought the sound to life. The Mesa rig hits a sweet spot at a certain volume and the speakers just seem to sing. More depth, clarity as if they've just come alive. She said this happened at this venue last time we played there. We use their PA for vocals and we got the DJ / SE to raise the vocals for 2nd set too. We had 2nd thoughts about this particular gig as its like a huge marquee and we have no control over the main PA. The holiday park is taken over by Hot Rods in the Borders group with some amazing US cars on show. Dave

Over the years i've found that i can ad-lib more with a very technical or busy drummer but with my current bands i just learned my bass parts and play them but we do sometimes coincide on some bass and drum runs which is always fun. With some bands i seem to lead on the rhythm section and others i'm happy to follow the drummer. Swings and roundabouts. Don't think i have any great preference just different. Maybe i just do an auto-sync with the drummer without realising it and don't spend a lot of time analysing how a band works. If it works leave well alone Dave

Some songs just need that little bit of edge. That's the way i've gone. I now only dig in for 4-5 songs in the Glam set and the rest i play a bit softer. I've done similar with the Punk band but so many raunchy songs its difficult to curb my enthusiasm. Dave

If the band was in existence before i joined i don't have any issues with the name staying if i leave. Historically for me tif he band folded that was the end of it and the name was never used again by any member. However if i just chose to leave then the band continued with the same name and i'm ok with that. I guess a good example of this causing issues is Pink Floyd when they disbanded and David Gilmour ended up with the name even tho he wasn't a founding member. He did bring in Mason and Wright which then gave him a better argument for retaining the name but i believe many if not most song ideas in the early days were from Roger Waters. (correct me if i'm wrong ?) Dave

Did a quick search and from what i can find Duracell come out as reliable and longer lasting than any other battery. Leakage is similar or less than other mfrs. I did come across Energiser Max batteries with a guarantee that any equipment damaged by them will be replaced by Energiser. They also do Lithium 9V batteries that have an even less risk of leakage. Looks like i might start using Energiser max or Lithium batteries. The Energiser Lithium batteries have a 10 yr shelf life. A Duracell battery has a 5 yr shelf life from what i've seen on line. Dave
