  1. Yes i've had to do that in the past. Cant remember who the drummer was but left to his own devices it was like a freight train down a hill without brakes. What Status bass are you using. Just curious. Dave
  2. I was about to ask what that meant and just caught your comment lower down the page its obvious when explained 😂 Dave
  3. You are lucky i've had to get ebay to step in on several occasions to get a response. I do use ebay and Amazon a lot and its probbaly 1-2% of messages i send. If i email BD i do it directly because of the ebay delays in messaging i've experienced but to be honest i generally go direct to BD website rather than ebay as i've found talking with Mark he will offer me a deal on some occasions. I do worry that i see some not very good experiences being highlighted tho, whether that would ever put me off buying i very much doubt it as he has a good choice of gear IMO. Dave
  4. Can i ask what PoV means. I've not come across it. Just curious ? Dave
  5. Not in my flat earth world 😂
  6. I usually check the height of the sun. 😂 Dave
  7. 11:50, ................ i like averages.
  8. Bands have always just been a hobby to me. I've always had a good job with a pretty decent salary and walking away from a great salary for a hobby never made any sense to me. I never wanted playing bass to be a job as i was always worried i'd get fed up with it. Again that's just me. The mates i knew back in 70's only one made a decent go of it out of about 5 or 6 mates in bands. He went on to sing with Rainbow and i'm guessing made a decent living from it. Others gave up well paid jobs and after 1-5 yrs were back in pub bands and doing a mediocre paid day job. Perhaps they were happy with that choice of at least trying to make a success of it. I never really asked them. I simply dont have that kind of commitment to bands. I'm enjoying it far more now than i ever did but i dont have the day job holding me back. Dave
  9. I once played for free drinks at my local on a Sat afternoon. That was a huge mistake for the owner and he freely admitted it at the end of the night as we were buying rounds for mates too. I remember him telling us it cost him over £300 for our free booze. He never did that again and it was always a fixed fee of £100-£150 back in 80's. He was a great pub owner and oddly enough i'm back in that very pub next week Sat night for a good bit more money now tho. Happy days Dave
  10. I use a Smooth Hound wireless now for 4 yrs with the Glam covers band mainly to save me from falling over a cable while wearing platform boots but i stick with cables with punk band usually because the punk band play in smaller pub venues where space is tight. I would use the wireless all the time but it runs thru batteries quite a bit. I get around 6-9 hrs of playing with it and that's me switching it off during breaks. To be fair if battery indicator shows 50% or less i just change them. Dave
  11. Nice one. I like to hear stories of people that followed their dream and it worked for them. Unfortunately its quite rare IME. I was happy at work in 90's when i was doing my Instrument Engineering job looking after analysis kit for the electronics industry gas supplies. I really enjoyed going to work back then but jobs changed and the further up the tree i went the more stressed i got. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and if only. Unfortunately companies wnated multi-skilled engineers and specific engineers were forced into production jobs while still doing maintenance work. Dave
  12. In response i hit the wrong emoji......👍
  13. We have more people with mortgages nowadays than ever before so either house buying is easier now than it used to be or wages are higher altho most families nowadays have 2 adults working which is a big change from when i was young and your Mum was busy looking after the house and us kids. Ahhhhh happy days. 😀
  14. For me any musician who's sole income is from playing bass is a professional musician. They dont need to be making millions but enough to live on. Dave
  15. How did we get from "it isn't a real job" to UK and Global economic policies. ? You have a nap in the conservatory and this is what happens. Retirement is a bummer. Dave
  16. Everyday a school day on BC. Its why i'm here. Dave
  17. My working life took over everything in my life. I gave up bands and other hobbies because i simply didnt have the time. I was working ridiculous hours many of which were unpaid and i never got those hours back. I cancelled weddings i was invited to, come back early from holidays or went straight to work as soon as i dropped my cases off at the house, i was continually called at all hrs of the day and night incl weekends and even while on holiday. My worst period was working continuously for 39hrs over a weekend. I worked for 11 weeks without a day off and only got a break because i was taking 2 weeks holidays abroad. When i got the chance to take early retirement at 55 with 40 yrs service and voluntary redundancy meaning no penalties on my pension it was a no brainer. Good pension meant my wife was able to stop working as a graphic designer at age 50. Since retiring i've realised how much i've missed over the years, the simple things like time together, spending Xmas day with my wife without work calling me, enjoying holidays, going for that coffee as and when i choose and of course playing in 2 different style of bands. If i had to do it all over again i probably would have taken a different view on life and what it means. That's hindsight tho. Dave
  18. I've finally found my perfect path in life...............retirement. Nothing beats it. I'm my own boss, i arrange my day around me, no stress, no worries, no complaints from those above or below me. I do have to plan when i have my coffee and that's another benefit .............. i can have coffeee whenever i like. Dave
  19. Nice one. I have noticed that you do get some great pics from your gigs. Out of curiosity what wireless were you using ? Dave
  20. That's interesting as i was using my active Sandberg with the XT's and i did notice the G string was noticeably louder than my usual EXL's but i put that down to fact it was a different gauge on the D & G strings. XT's is 45 / 65 whereas my EXL's are 40 / 60. Have to admit i quite enjoyed the G string being a bit louder as i've always had to play the G string a little harder to get it to stand out in the mix. If the XT's last longer i might try them on other basses to see how they sound. At the moment i remain quite happy with them tonally and the feel is smoother on my dainty little delicate fingers. 😁 Dave
  21. That's been my experience with BD every time. Delivered in a few days. 👍
  22. Absolute mint to me means as new out the box condition. I'd be disappointed otherwise. I have no issues buying a 2nd hand bass that the owner has highlighted any flaws with it. Saying something is absolute mint when it clearly isn't is surely against trade descriptions in some way i would have thought. I bought a 2nd hand Jaydee fretless from them and the advert did highlight any dings etc on it. Cant remember the exact description on the headline to be honest. Dave
  23. Maybe they're using the EU metric conversion rather than the UK metric conversion chart. Dave
