1. Some places i've seen are selling Stingray 4H's for anything up to £1500 now, where i remember a few years ago they were usually around £1250 in most retailers, so that's probably had some effect on the pricing. Even so, £800 for a Stingray 4 in good nick is still a damn good price if you ask me. Liam
2. I'd probably go with seperates personally, but i do want to try the new Line 6 Pod HD X series (HD500X and HD Pro X) as they're supposed to be the most powerful on the market. Doesn't mean they've managed to finally get a good bass synth though. Liam
3. Are these the nickels or steels? I'll probably take a set off your hands next week if they're still there. Liam
4.
oo, nice! £48 on amazon compared to the price of a set-up from any shop doesn't seem so bad
Only £40 from GAK. I tend to do most things myself, as i can do it when i want, how i want. That being said, i think i'll be taking my main bass for a 'proper' job soon as i think it needs a fret dress. Liam
5. The Alma Inn in Bolton has a tiny stage area. It probably doesn't help that being a metal venue, the stage is taken over by a huge kit, 2 4x12's and a massive bass rig. I also remember SanSan Studios (After they bought it from when it was Soundhouse and ruined it) having a pretty small stage in sections that moved a lot the first time we were there. They'd made it bigger the next time, but it still moved. Liam
6. My P bass left a crackin' friction burn on my neck when i was practicing guitar flips, and the moments it didnt go around far enough, made rather solid contact with the back of my head... Liam
7. I'll give it a go, providing there's no signing my life away Liam
8.
I usually use 45-105 (elixirs). Are they considered heavy gauge?
They aren't considered that heavy (IMO anyway) but I find that Elixirs do have a higher tension/lower compliance than others for the same string gauges. Maybe try one of the 45-100 or even 40-95 sets? Liam
9. Depending on the interface, I can't see why you need to run any software? Mine is permanently plugged in and all I have to do is open up youtube or an audio file and it plays straight away, no extra software or anything. It's just an external soundcard. Liam
10. Another recommendation for the Stagg ones. Mine's a Spider not a Stagg, but they're identical except what's engraved on the badge, and it's solid as a rock. Liam
11. At first, Mike Dirnt & Matt Willis, but then i got more into metal so it was people like Cliff Burton, Paolo Gregoletto & Jay James. Liam
12. Paramore - Paramore for me. It's a good album, but nothing really stands out like their old stuff did. Looks like losing the Farro brothers was as a big of a hit as everyone thought it would be, all IMO of course. Liam
13. Pick playing is just another tool in a bassists arsenal. In some songs it just fits better than anything else, in others it doesn't. As has been said, people who dismiss it without a second thought or look at it as some form of sin are missing something, same with (correctly used) slap playing as well. Liam
14. I'll add my praise for the BDI-21 as well. Essential piece of kit for any bass player if you ask me. Cheaper than a set of strings! (Disclaimer: it depends on the strings you use). Liam
15. Always was one of my favourite films, and still is. I forget how talented Jack Black is on a regular basis. Liam
16. I'm right handed, play bass right handed, but am learning to play lefty out of sheer boredom and the want for an obscure bass-related challenge. Liam
17. The PT Mini will definately fit 5 boss sized pedals. I can get 2 and a Behringer preamp on my PT Nano which is about half the size. Liam
18.
What you're describing appears to be the new amps which contain two VT bass preamps, a power amp, and can optionally be midi controlled: http://www.tech21nyc...ass/vt1969.html
I had seen the VT '69 when it came out. Although it did look very interesting, the setup i have in mine doesn't use an amp at all, just preamp straight to the PA with no power amps or cabs involved, unless i need them. Liam
19. I put the screws back in mine. I think it looks better than just leaving the holes visible. Liam
20. Only done one gig on a wireless system, and I wish I never had to give it back. Even playing pubs I like to not feel restricted (which is why I use 10m cables), and I have a general hatred of cables anyway, which is why a Line6 G55 or two will be coming my way as soon as I can afford it. Liam
21. Songwriting sessions are all our drummers living room with acoustic guitars, 25w bass amp and a cajon. Then we transfer that into the rehearsal room at a local studio (White Bear Studios in Adlington. One VERY loud rehearsal room) to rehearse an electric set and make any final tweaks we need to get it giggable. Liam
22. I'm in the same situation too. Our guitarist has only been back around here for 5 days and half an EP is written, although we don't save the beers till afterwards. Liam
23. Last time I ordered, between checkout and my order being sent out was 43 minutes. 2 Days later it was on my doorstep, no problems whatsoever. Liam
24. Black Stone Cherry goes down well with the right crowds, we used to do Blind Man when we were doing that sort of stuff. Might I suggest some Shinedown, Alter Bridge and if you want some very new stuff, have a look at some Heavens Basement. Liam
25. I'm in one with 2 as well. Dedicated lead and rhythm over here as one is on lead vocals as well. Sometimes i wouldn't mind just one, but other times it works better having 2. Liam
