Yes, it would be correct that the RMS and peak figures are at minimum load, as for the ohmage situation. On the majority of amps you can expect 50-70% of the quoted specs for 4 ohms, so with a 500w it's usuallly around 300w, as far as i know. Some amps are different, like the Orange Terror Bass says it's 500w at both 4 and 8 ohms, but it's 500w at 8 ohms and something in the region of 520-530 at 4 ohms. In the first example, the figures given are likely RMS as well. Liam

I recorded that using my BDI-21. It's currently in what is soon to be the 2nd loop of my pedalboard for the more acoustic songs, does wonders for warming up your tone though it doesn't overdrive nicely IMO. Liam

Replacement Preamp for MM Stingray 5 String
LiamPodmore replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Accessories and Misc
I think the most highly regarded Musicman replacement pre is probably the John East/East Electronics one. I know a few on here have them so i'm sure someone will give you more details soon. Liam -
I've kept both covers and thumb rest, but i don't have the covers on. I quite like the thumb rest, i actually use it pretty often on mellower songs. Liam

Pre into Stereo Amp, NOT Bridge Mode...
LiamPodmore replied to discreet's topic in Repairs and Technical
Most amps, if there's nothing connected to the 2nd channel input, it takes it from the first instead, so try plugging into the 1st channel input and it should hopefully feed to both channels. Liam -
What amp are you using? It could be that the speaker can't handle the low notes from the B, i've had the same issue. Liam

I've used the Joyo JF-12 which i have currently (Being true bypass has no tone suck when off, not bad for £30) although it's mostly being used for the octave up effect. One of my favourites is the Boss MT-2, despite it being a distortion not a fuzz, but it's really versatile with the on board EQ. I need to get my hands on another one of those to be honest. Liam

5 string players - what gauge strings do you use?
LiamPodmore replied to TRBboy's topic in Bass Guitars
45-130 for me, i had i think 50-135 but i found that i was having issues with the other strings (It was in my quest to make my B sound good) and playing fingerstyle at speed so i dropped down a bit. Don't play my 5 that much any more though. Liam -
Emu Pipeline wireless transmitter/receiver?
LiamPodmore replied to ben604's topic in Accessories and Misc
Ah I'll be using them for IEM, so it gets rid of an unnecessary cable. Slightly more freedom. I find with my wired setup, I'm constantly stepping on the lead and pulling the ear buds out of my head....
That's why when i'm using my botched up wired IEM rig, i tend to pretty much tie the extension cable i use to the belt loop at the back of my jeans, and then plug in the earphones. Liam -
Dissertation help please guys! Very short survey
LiamPodmore replied to OliverBlackman's topic in General Discussion
I expect you'll have quite the list of answers, judging by what i got when i did a survey on here (Think i got something like 40/50 results). Unfortunately i was too late to do it myself, but i'd still be happy to if you wanted any more opinions. Liam -
Emu Pipeline wireless transmitter/receiver?
LiamPodmore replied to ben604's topic in Accessories and Misc
Looks incredibly interesting actally. I've been waiting for a good digital IEM, and even considered looking into reversing something like the Relay G50. Liam -
My bands vocalist is a v-logger who's gaining ever more popularity (1260 subscribers and over 80,000 views) on youtube. Here's a bit of a rant he did about soap, cleaners and wet floor signs: And here's a song he did about eggs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnSQPcYTKHY&feature=relmfu Liam

I tried a set and i just couldn't get them to sit right in the mix, not on stage anyway. I'm not sure how it was out front but it sounded pretty sh*te on stage (when i could hear it). Not going to put me off using flats when the occasion calls for it though, they just don't sit with the general mix and sound of the band i'm currently in. Liam

Each family of amps has it's own tonal characteristics, (Ashdown ABM are usually quite warm, Orange Terror will eat your face off at anything past something around 4 or 5 on the gain dial, etc....) and what differences you hear depend in the amps you're comparing. For what you've said there, my first suggestion would be a try a GK RB series if you can, not sure about the amount of high end on these, but it would be a good baseline for you IMO. Liam

Bass player frontperson (first gig report post 65)
to give an example that is fairly different from others that have been said, Tyson Ritter from The All-American Rejects does a very good job combining bassist and frontman. sure, his basslines aren't the most complex things, but they do have melodic variations and fills while he is singing, and he is good at engaging with an audience.
I have to whole-heartedly agree with this one. I saw The All American Rejects on Friday with Blink 182 (Mark Hoppus also does a damn good job) and Tyson is one hell of a frontman. He did only play bass for about half of the set though, the other half he was either throwing it very very sketchily to his tech (literally caught by fingertips) or there was someone else playing. Another guy i would throw in is John Cooper of Skillet. He's playing some pretty tricky stuff at times, all whilst singing. That and i think his Traben Phoenix 5 Custom is lovely Liam -
I play pop/punk (Though there is some classic punk stuff in there too) and a P fits perfectly. Slightly overdriven of course. Liam

I go out and point to things that need to go up or down usually. I have a 10m cable running from my board so i can get quite a distance away. Either that or if we have a friendly face around who we know has seen us a few times before and knows how we sound, we ask them. Liam

Hmmm, something does't seem quite right :p
LiamPodmore replied to deefer_dog's topic in Bass Guitars
I don't know, it think it might be a missing control knob or something. Liam -
Haha, I'm just teasing you Lefty - most of their modern range is total sh*te; and they are overplaying the pointy crap, because they know it sells well in certain markets... mainly new members on Talkbass who like to ask which basses are good for metal The top one is mine. You're welcome to have a go any time - totally kills a Fender Precision, and I'd love to add more to the collection. But, their best basses are either in the past or coming via the Custom Shop, and I don't think either is necessarily a predictable delivery route at the moment.
I think the only good bass BC Rich make at the moment is probably the BC Rich Paulo Gregoletto Warlock 5 Spalted Maple (Actually comes from the Ed Roman (R.I.P.) Custom Shop but y'know) Violin basses, Wals, a few Warwicks and singlecut basses. There's not much i don't like actually. Liam

At the moment, i have 3, though my ideal number is 6, with good reasons which i'm willing to explain to anyone who wants to listen. At the moment, my Ibanez doesn't get played, due to needing electronics, a bridge and a set up. I mostly play the P and bust out the J when i feel like playing a 5 string, or i'm learning stuff for my 2nd band which requires a 5. Liam

I had to do this with a larger wireless reciever. I had loads of adhesive velcro, so i made 2 double sided (Rough on one and soft on the other) giant velcro ties (about 1ft long in this case) and strapped them round the reciever, with some more shorter ones acting as a bridge between the 2 longer ones, so they stayed where i'd put them. It worked pretty well, though i'd use more than 2 for mounting an amp, providing you still get full access to controls and the like. Liam
I think also featured in the same old TOTP episode as that XTC song there was a band called Liverpool Express and the lead singer/bass player appeared to have a bass that was a Fender neck attached to a Thunderbird type body, or was this actually an obscure Fender model I've forgotten about?
That just sounds to me like a Fenderbird, it's something that's quite common actually. People take their favourite Fender neck, and stick it on a Thunderbird body. Liam
