I use my Behringer preamp which seems to add an extra depth to my tone, along with the octave up on my Joyo fuzz and a Marshall Jackhammer on a low gain setting. Liam

Head over to Dawsons in Manchester. I frequently go in there to test gear and if it's not too busy they're more than happy to let you try things out. Really easy to get to even if you don't drive too, only about 10 minutes walk from Manchester Picadilly station. I'd also possibly take a look at the Ibanez GSR200 too, it's the bass i started on and it's brilliant for beginners. Nice neck, P/J pickups, and not too heavy. Good luck with your bass hunting. Liam
I've never seen a sieve used as a pop shield before
It's surprisingly effective. We needed a pop shield and that was the only thing we had to hand, so we tried it. Liam

IMO, the best acoustics for the money are Ibanez. My bands vocalist has an Ibanez EW20WNE and it's phenomenal for what he paid (£280-300 If i remember correctly). It's the acoustic we used on the track below for an idea of sound. Recorded with a Peavey dynamic mic on the soundhole and direct from the internal preamp. If you feel like really splashing out, i would go for a Taylor. One came up used in a cash generator near me for £200 and it had gone by the time i got paid, i was gutted. Liam

Who made you decide "I'm going to play bass!"
LiamPodmore replied to Cameronj279's topic in General Discussion
Told my dad i wanted a guitar, 2 weeks later he came home with a bass (I really wish it had been in good condition, it was a '94 Squier Jazz) anda 40w Peavey keyboard amp, and from there i started getting lessons at school, and my music taste at the time was anything from Green Day to Metallica, so naturally i learnt American Idiot and the first minute of Anesthesia, i couldn't play any more of it than that unfortunately.
a good 100/150w combo will be fine! i mean this is now gone but im sure something like this will pop up again soon http://basschat.co.u...o-for-sale-l50/ people bash there amps but honestly they are a good starting point! andy
I have a friend who frequently gigs one of these with no issues, i hate his tone but that's not the amps fault. I think your best bet would be a used Peavey or Ashdown off here, or maybe a Line 6 LD150 if one pops up. Liam
This would imply that the problem with the B was down to the electronics. Is there any evidence that this is the case? I always thought/assumed that it was more down to design compromises involved in making a "cheap" five string?
I find that the electronics as a whole are lacking, especially in output and i'm not entirely a fan of the original pickups, they get the job done but not to the standard i want. I'm hoping the B is mainly due to a setup issue, which i'll try to sort as best i can when i actually get chance. Liam

I use a 4 for my main band and a 5 for my 2nd one. I have no problems playing both, although i'm not a fan of the low b on my 5, it just lacks the depth and authority that i want from it. I've been debating on having it modded recently, refinished in something eccentric, routed for a MM humbucker bridge pup, Delano pickups and a John East pre. I'd love to put the electronics out of a HS Bongo 5 in there, that would be absolutely IMMENSE but wouldn't be easy. Liam

As a bass player you can have one type of guitar- what would it be
LiamPodmore replied to LukeFRC's topic in Guitars
A lovely Taylor electro acoustic for me, something like an 812ce/814ce. Liam -
I find a little bit of drive goes a long way, especially behind guitar solos. Possibly a bit of chorus too, to thicken out the sound a little. Edit: By a little bit of drive i mean a little bit, too much and you wont be able to fill out the space fully. My new band is of a heavier persuasion, doing a lot of harmonised solo work so in solos i am essentially in the same boat (the harmonies just thicken out the guitar and not the whole sound). I've also got to add that a band i love (Boomin) are a 3 piece and their bassist quite often just uses a P-Deluxe (With a JJ pickup at the bridge) straight into his Ashdown ABM, occasionally using fuzz, and their sound is never lacking. Whats the best pickups for my CIJ J bass?
LiamPodmore replied to rogerstodge's topic in Bass Guitars
Wizards and a John East, or as Conan said above, EMG's. I have EMG's in my CIJ P and they sound phenomenal. Liam -
Knackered Barrel Jack Sockets - A Prevention Tip
LiamPodmore replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I stopped using straight jacks 4 years ago, and am yet to damage a barrel style jack socket. I always use angled jacks, it just makes more sense (Unless using something like a Strat or an Ibanez S series as that would just be wrong). Liam -
Something Old & Something New - Your Recordings.
LiamPodmore replied to xilddx's topic in Share Your Music
I'll use my band for this: Something old(ish): Oct 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EzjL-iG5pY Something newer: Nov 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpCJuBC7DLk&feature=relmfu We still play the first song (And i know the recording is dire) but a totally rewritten version, that prompts the use of a fuzz, envelope and wah for me so it's much more fun. Find one with a coil tap, so you can just use one of the coils instead of both, that way depending on pickup placement you should be able to get a decent J bass bridge tone. Liam
America has Talkbass - somehow masculine in how it sounds. UK has Basschat - sounds much more civilised and proper. Which leads me on to 'All Hail The Chap'
"Much more civilised and proper" Well, half the time i don think TalkBass is full of 13 year olds, with all the arguments that happen on there. I mostly visit for comedic purposes than information any more. I find BC is a much better source, because the majority of the users on here aren't afraid to admit when they're wrong. Liam

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odCCJ-2IJLY&feature=g-u-u Had so much fun tracking the crowd vocals for this, and i absolutely love these guys. Such a good band, and probably the most fun gigs i've ever been to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3nbYr8NKGQ Brent's vocals on this are just jaw dropping IMO, absolute phenomenal, he's got so much power in his voice. My board at the moment, nothing else to go on for atleast a few weeks yet, but as you can see, plenty of space for it. The FBV Express will be used on Monday night to control the Chorus, Octave and Envelope Filter on my guitarists Line 6 combo, and i'll make use of the wah too probably for a dubstep section we do. P.S. Please excuse the mess and sh*te photo quality. Liam

Welcome to the forum, Sounds like you'll have quite a whelm of experience and knowledge to throw around after 30 years of playing. Liam

Some of the rigs on here look absolutely lovely. I'm hoping to shift my Warwick and have a Streamliner running into a Super 12 by the end of the year Liam

Sounds better than TalkBass. My band frequently take the p*ss for both, but ah well. Liam
