Looks like i'm heading to Blink 182, All American Rejects and Twin Atlantic at the M.E.N. Arena on the 15th. Liam

I pick up my bass when i can be bothered or need to. My band haven't been gigging much in 2012 and it's really thrown me off, because i don't play half as much as i used to. At the moment i'm running through some of the covers for our set again, as well as doing 2 challenging songs frequently. Where Dragons Rule by Dragonforce (Don't laugh) for keeping my right hand speed and stamina in check, and Like Callisto To A Star In Heaven, which keeps both my right and left hands in check, as well as pushing me to be able to play faster for longer so i can consistently get them down.
+1. I got this book to start with and recommend it too. Covers what you need to get up and running and writing your own tracks (well, it did that for me!)
Definately does. I only got it last year so i'd been playing for 4 years already and it still helps. Liam

Orange Bass Terror - It's here, FULL review and PIX

Am i the only one thinking that an OTB500/1000 through a Barefaced Super 12 would be more effective than a demolition team? Liam -
Although one method a guitarist I worked with meant that he could repair strings... that was odd!
I must say i am intrigued... Liam

A book i highly recommend is Bass Guitar For Dummies, it goes over everything you need to get a great start to your bass playing journey. If you came on here asking about what bass to get as your first, i'd have also recommended an Ibanez, brilliant basses in any price range. Liam

Everyone on this thread has/or will have another like from me, and seeing as i need some new music i'm going to take the time to listen to everything over the course of the week. Same goes for any more that get posted. Liam

Where to lean/put your bass at a gig?
LiamPodmore replied to stefBclef's topic in General Discussion
Larger Multi-Band gigs (Academy etc..) it's in its case in the dressing room. Pub gigs it's on a stand next to my rig as our supports are usually acoustic acts. Liam -
I have a good bass and I have a good amp... Why do I need a pedal?
LiamPodmore replied to bassickman's topic in Effects
I don't strictly need pedals, but they make my life better, and make my sound better (IMO of course). I don't have that many yet, just a Tuner, Preamp and Overdrive, with a Fuzz on the way, but i'll add more over the coming months. Liam -
That sound like a good setup/strategy. Is there an official leader in this band?
It's working well so far. There isn't really an official leader, but it seems to be me and the 2nd guitarist Mike, who's a close friend of mine taking lead, but out of us 2 it's mostly myself as i'm the one who's got the experience of frequent gigging and band management. The vocalist has also done her fair share of gigging but she never really took part in all the background stuff so leaves it to me and Mike. Liam

Startup band i'm in. We met up first to get to know eachother (I only actually didn't know one of them) decided on a few songs, jammed out those few songs at a rehearsal. We used that rehearsal to see where the singer feels most comfortable musically and then spent the last hour coming up with song suggestions which i've compiled into a list (something like 40 songs). We're going to meet up again with the list, go through and pick 10 songs to do over the next few months, and then break them up into which songs to do at which rehearsal so we know what we need to work on and when for. This really helps because i obviously have my main band, work, and regularly dissapear for a weekend, plus all the other members are at college, so having a bit of structure makes things easier to work with. Seeing as there's been a few posts relating to people wanting likes on their band facebook, i though i'd start a thread where we can all just throw on links and people can like eachothers, have a listen etc.... There's probably been one like this before, so if there has i apologize. To start off, A Little Bit Outlaw's is here or can also be found in my sig. Liam

Bass, spare bass (if space allows), pedalboard, 2 30ft cables, 20ft cable, tuner, spare batteries, screw driver, allen keys, spare strings, picks, guitar stand or two, power extension, gaffa tape, earplugs (usually juse use my earphones, they work really well), towel, deoderant, atleast 2 bottles of water and 2 cans of monster. If i'm taking my amp head too, i bring spare speaker cables and power cables. My Behringer has a DI out which can be used in a hurry, but i'm planning on adding a DI to my pedalboard as well. Liam

Please recommend me a great, light weight precision bass under £300
LiamPodmore replied to mashup's topic in Bass Guitars
The Squier VM series is very highly rated on here, although, if you could squeeze an extra hundred or so you'll be able to pick up a used Japanese P like i did. Mine was £380 i think. Liam -
Just ordered a Joyo JF-12 Ultimate Octave/Fuzz and Harley Benton PowerPlant Junior to finish off my board for now, until i start getting major gas for an octave and chorus. My guess will be a matter of weeks. Edit: Should also be using our guitarists Line 6 combo next week so i'm going to see what fun i can have with it's built in Envelope Filter and Wah, which will undoubtably cause more gas. Liam

The basic answer to all of this is: Some folks like all valve Some folks like hybrids Some folks like solid state Some folks don't really give a sh*t if their rig sounds good and doesn't break every week. Liam

Seen and tried a few Bugera guitar amps, as well as subscribing to a few long-time Bugera users on youtube and i've been very happy with them. Obviously there's going to be QC issues at that price point but overall they seem to be pretty reliable (Except for the ones mentioned above). Liam

Active Basses - which batteries are recommended
LiamPodmore replied to Lozz196's topic in Bass Guitars
I use Duracell, only £2 each from my local hardware shop or B&M bargains and seem to last anything between 6 months and a year (Unless they're in a Behringer BDI-21, then they last about 6 hours...). Been using them in active basses since the end of 2007 without any issues whatsoever. Liam -
Bass Strings - How Long Do Yours Last ?
LiamPodmore replied to BassMan94's topic in General Discussion
Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkies/Regular Slinky 5's. Usually last me 1-3 months, though the Regular Slinkies on my 5 have lasted since christmas because i'm barely playing it due to having my P, which has gone through 7 set of strings since january (They were cheap and naff things that my uncle threw in with the bass, but they sounded okay for a few weeks) but hopefully the Hybrid Slinkies will last a bit longer than that (2 months at a guess, being summer) when they arrive this week. Going to set up my P again too, so it should be sounding and feeling lovely by next Mondays gig. Liam -
Let's just f*ck off all this blocks and dots and blah blah blah and just get some Pink LED's... Liam
-
Fell over and hit my head on a cymbal stand mid song, whilst trying to get back on stage, all without missing a note though. Last Friday night the whole band f*cked up the same point in the same song, that was funny, especially considering we wrote it. Liam

I don't like Pearl blocks on maple, they just blend in and dissapear to me, and i tend not to be a fan of Rosewood boards, so black blocks and maple is my perfect combo. Liam
-
Just out of interest, where did you get your hands on one of these? Might look into purchasing one or two myself. Liam
Thomann don't normally send a uk lead. All the electrical bits I've had from them have come with eu cables. It'll only cost you a quid from wilkinsons for a plug anyway
Thanks, just wanted to clarify beforehand anyway. Liam
