16kHz whilst using cheapo Sony MDR-EX10 earbuds in a noisy office/server room. At my age i'd say that's a bit sh*te, but it could be the buds being sh*te when the frequencies get higher. Liam

Anyone know if the Harely Benton (Thomann) PowerPlant Junior ships with a UK power lead when you order it from over here? I emailed Thomann a few days ago about it and am yet to have a reply, and this looks like it'l fit my needs quite well too. Liam

The bass that you shouldn't have let go of ...
LiamPodmore replied to Fionn's topic in General Discussion
In a way, i wish i hadn't sold the body and neck of my '94 Squier Jazz. With a bit of TLC and probably about £150-£200 it could've probably been a beauty of a bass. Liam -
The nut issue, may be a stupid question but do you wind your strings down the post instead of up? Winding them downwards can create more of a break angle over the nut so that it's making proper contact. Liam

Tech 21 Sansamp BDDI, Tech 21 VT Bass, Behringer BDI-21. Run a Jazz through any of those set up correctly and you'll have a nice huge tone. Liam

Funny things you've heard at a gig/soundcheck?
Talcum Powder!! Yiip! I once had to sub for a band doing a east end gangsters type wedding in Bethnal Green, and after a week of rehersals, on the day of sound check the singer who was a a rockabilly afficionado, asked the soundcheck man to provide him talcum powder so he could slide on stage doing his split and twist motions. I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole.
I saw a guy cover his drums in Talcum Powder so it would make a nice effect for the first song or two, looked quite good actually, but was slippy as f*ck when we went onstage afterwards. My bands vocalist once went for the usual "one two one two, one two blahblahblah" like he tends to, but put his own spin on it out of boredom, so it went something along the lines of: "One two one two, one two.. one two three four five, once i caught a fish alive, six seven eight nine ten, then i let it go again..." And also starting his soundcheck by singing the words "And all he needs, is someone sweet, to spend her evenings sitting on his meat" Liam -
The only cure for GAS is the lack of cash to fund said GAS. Infact no, ignore that, i'm skint and have quite an adequate GAS list at the moment. Liam

Covers bands "openers" what do you start with?
LiamPodmore replied to witterth's topic in General Discussion
Jet - Are You Gonna be My Girl? or The Ramones - Blitzkreig Bop. We've also used AC/DC's Highway to Hell and Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard. Liam -
Dunlop Tortex .88 and 1.00's, but mostly the .88's. Been using them for about 3 years now, just perfect for me. Liam

I have huge GAS for a Bongo 5HH Stealth. I want that bass. Liam
I'll wait til they do a version based on an Ampeg 8x10...
Not long to wait: This build is really coming along now, and it's looking absolutely phenomenal, and that window must be HUGE! Liam

Do you consider yourself an "expert" bass player?
LiamPodmore replied to Jam's topic in General Discussion
Nowhere near. I think bass is one of those instruments that takes years upon years of constant practice to even get anywhere near that. I've been playing nearly 5 years and i'd probably consider myself intermediate at best. Liam -
Everyone chips in, and gets their share back when they leave OR everyone buys part of it PLUS the guitarist keeps the PA he already owns for use by the duo. That would be my ideal solution. Liam Infact, ignore all of this and just do what Skankdelvar said, it sounds much more entertaining.

Bigger gigs we do (The ones where borrowing gear is actually possible because there's more than 1 band) i always get in contact with the other band beforehand to see if i can borrow their bass cab, even if i've already been told that i can by the promotor/organiser. Always take my head, as people are more protective over their amps, as this thread clearly shows. Always make sure to give the guy a thanks afterwards as well. Liam

I would, but according the the BBC i'm not old enough. Liam

Musicman are known for having some of the best Low B's on any 5 string, so i'd expect the Sterling to be the same. For the price of a new sterling, you could probably pick up a Stingray 5 on here if you wait a little. Liam

Peavey IPR would be my choice. Cheap and powerful. http://www.gak.co.uk/en/peavey-ipr-3000-power-amplifier/26089 Liam

Personally i'm not a fan of netbooks for anything, i'd prefer a lower end notebook over a netbook any day, but disregarding all that, don't get an Acer Aspire netbook, we've got 20 here at work and they're the worst things i've ever used. My dad had a Zoostorm (can't remember the specific model) which wasn't bad at all, although for running anything like Reaper i'm not too sure, especially on the tiny screen. All IMO of course. Liam

My basses are dinged up, my P has got sme nice chips from it's years of service in the hands of my uncle, my Ibanez has a huge chip where a stand snapped and it had a glorious fall onto various pieces of Yamaha motorbike engine, and also when it was involved in a minor car accident (In a gigbag, on my back, on a BMX). My Squier has a few chips in places from gigging, accidental drops etc.. I don't treat my gear like a 2 day old baby but i don't deliberately smash it up either. My drinks either go on a nearby table, on the floor next to the monitors, or on the drum riser if there is one. Liam

I paid £380 for my '86 MIJ P (Fxxxxxx Serial Number) but that was off family, so it might be a little more generally on here. Liam

All of my gear, sorry for the crappy photos. From left to right: Ibanez GSR200 (2007, Modded electronics), Squier Jazz Deluxe V (2010), Fender Japan Precision (1985), Behringer BDI-21, Marshall JH-1 and Boss TU-2, all on a Kinsman board, and a Warwick ProFet 5.1 in a Warwick Eco Line 4U Rack Case. Hi All, Just thought i'd throw this on here incase anyone's got nothing to do tonight and fancies listening to my band A Little Bit Outlaw live on the lovely Bolton FM tonight. Plans are to do a few live acoustics as well, so it should be a fun few hours if anyone feels like listening. We're on 8-10, and you can listen live right here http://www.boltonfm.com/ Liam
