or get an affinity and with the saving you could stick a pair of wizards in it
Or know a guy who works in a music shop and get a Squier Deluxe J 5 for £170 Liam

Squier J would be my first choice too, gigged one of the Deluxe models for over a year. Liam

What are you listening to right now?
LiamPodmore replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
Professor Green - Avalon (Ft. Sierra Kusterbeck) Professor Green is actually a good rapper, and i just love Sierras voice, this song fits her too well. Been listening to a lot of Skillet lately too. I've been a fan of these guys for a while now, the use of strings and John Cooper's lovely voice and bass playing, always makes for a good song. (Not to mention the lovely looking drummer either, who also has a damn good voice) Strange combo, but ah well. Liam -
My main bass is an 80's Japanese Precision, and its one of the best basses i've ever played. Blows the last two MIA Fenders i played out of the water without breaking a sweat. Liam

Going back to a simple old school set up.

Bass - Amp/Combo. Thats what i run at the moment, it sounds good, but it doesn't sound as good as i think it could. I intend to run Bass-Wireless-Tuner-Fuzz-VT Bass-Ibanez TS9B-Octave-Envelope-Amp-Cab when i can afford to, and yes, i know i don't need all that. Not really very old school though, well, it is at the moment. Liam -
As comfortable and good sounding as that might be, it is one of the ugliest basses i've seen in a while (Beaten only by singlecut basses) Liam
-
I use normal leads, but i only use shorter ones in the house, and the big ones (6m and 2x 10m) are all tied up with velcro cable tidy things for when i want to run around the whole place at a gig. Liam

Who Gigs An Old Bass? New Vs. Vintage?
LiamPodmore replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
I'll vou
It sounded good...honest! I did put the original pup's back in, but sold it soon after.
I'll vouch for that, my '86 has EMG's in and sounds amazing, although this is how it came, wasn't by choice. Liam -
Who Gigs An Old Bass? New Vs. Vintage?
LiamPodmore replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
I'm currently gigging an '86 Japanese Precision, 9 years older than me, and i absolutely love it. Just sits right there in the mix, exactly where it should be. Not had any issues with it, but it was very well taken care of by my uncle before i bought it off him. Liam -
EDIT: A work around is to right click on the thread you want to read and 'Open in new tab'. That way you just close the tab down when finished and your back at the original page A
Either that or click with the scroll wheel, just saves a few clicks and is much easier.
You can also click and hold the back button (in Chrome, anyway) which will then show a drop-down menu of your recent history.
This is also the same in the latest version of Firefox, not sure about the earlier ones. Liam -
No.1: Manchester Academy 3, 23rd of July 2011, Supporting That Sunday Feeling (Attack Attack, McFly). A Little Bit Outlaw, So Called Friends, 7 Day Weekend, Neon Sarcastic and That Sunday Feeling We got moved down the bill from 3rd to first, due to only selling i think 8 tickets, out of the 100 they gave us, and also got our set cut short, but despite that. We got onstage, crowd of about 100 maybe, nobody in the room had heard of us (Other than one of the other bands who we knew) which made it better than if everyone had come to see us. It basically gave us a chance to do what we wanted to do, not to try to do something new to please our fans, and my god did the crowd respond. We ended with Stacy's Mom, and although it isn't one of my songs, seeing everyone in the room dancing and singing along to a song you're playing, is a damn good feeling. Not to mention the fact that i had an Ampeg SVT-810e blasting at my back, which felt good. No.2: Daisy Hill Cricket Club, 29th of January 2011, supported by Unauthorized Access. Our 2nd gig of the year, and one we weren't expecting to be anywhere near as good as it was. In the end we ended up drawing so many people that the club owner had to stand on the door and stop another 40 or so people coming in. To top of that, we played the best we had played for months, and had an incredibly good sound. Our guitarists dad even came up from Cornwall (7 hours to get here, and 10 back the day after) for the gig, which was a surprise for everyone. Our next gig there had to be ticketed and was nowhere near as good. A bit long winded, and not the best gigs ever, but they were good to me. Liam

Hi all, I got a little bored tonight so i thought i'd finally crack out the recording gear and put up a bass cover on youtube, so here it is, Funhouse by P!nk, got a lovely groove to it, although there was a major f*ck-up in the 2nd pre chorus. Took me about 2 hours to get the video and audio even remotely in sync, but i finally managed it. Leave a comment on here or youtube with what you think, i could always use some creative criticism. Liam

The ones i've got with mine ('86 Jap) are a lot smaller than scratchplate screws, that probably doesn't help but that's the case with mine. Liam

We've had fights outside gigs (Not involving band members for the most part) before, fights inside the venue. Our singer was attacked when packing up at a charity festival do (Bare in mind this was 4 in the afternoon) by someone who liked his girlfriend, the same guy has a friend who attacked me a few months ago, but conveniently 2 police officers happened to be riding into the park at that moment.
Another vote for second hand here. If you're looking at a serious move into function work, hopefully you'll be swiftly moving up to weddings/corporate stuff and I'd aim to I can't help but see powered speakers as dead money when it comes to upgrading as you're effectively having to replace two components in one if you need something bigger.
My theory about powered speakers is when they get retired from FOH use, throw them on the floor and use them as Monitors, therefore you're not wasting the money, and have some (More?) monitors too. As for the OP, not sure on the PA (We use 2 1x12's and 2 1x15's for vocals only with a Behringer powered mixer) but for cheapish mics i reccomend EV Cobalt C09's, we use them and they're pretty robust and have a very similar sound to the bog standard SM58 to my ears.
Under what circumstances, Liam? Over-enthusiastic guitard and/or drummist, perhaps?
Actually no (People would get very surprised if they knew my drummer can do an acoustic rehearsal on a standard, unmuted kit with a set of 5B sticks and still not drown us out), just the sheer volume we needed those nights, and an inadequate amp position. Liam
-
I use an LD150 (1x12 Combo) for most gigs, and it's only ever let me down, volume-wise, twice. Every other of the 30-40 gigs i've done with the thing have been fine, and i always manage to get a decent tone out of them. Liam

Welcome to the forum Joe, this isn't the place to be when you have funds for new gear, as those funds will dissapear faster than you know it and you'll find yourself with something with a funky name. I think i've spotted a few members around the Cornwall area so i'm sure you have people close, just like we all seem to. Liam

Musical Magic - How often do you feel it with your bands?
LiamPodmore replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
When we throw out a new song live, to a larger crowd. We've just written one called Get Happy which i cannot wait to properly unveil at a gig. Another few was when we first hit 1000 and 2000 views on our first single, that was a proud moment for me. Liam -
Precisions - Red or White (Inc. Antiqua) Jazz - Natural, or if it has a fancy quilted maple top either a red, turqoise or my personal favourite, purple dyed finish. Stingrays - Black or Natural Bongo - Satin Black (Stealth) Those are the main ones anyway. Edit: I 'd love a full on neon pink Jazz bass, and the sparkly sterlings that Dougie from McFly has. Liam
-
I play in one band mainly, but i do have others that are in the process of starting, so i went for Semi-Pro in more than one band, 'cauuse i make a bit money sometimes too. Liam

I must say Mark, that thing is absolutely f*cking gorgeous. Phenomenal looking, how's she sound? Liam

'Cutting through' versus 'sitting in' the mix?
LiamPodmore replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
To me, sitting in the mix is filling a hole thats already there, which is what the bass should be doing for the most part. Cutting is making a hole and attempting to fill it, which doesn't always work that way. Thats how i see it anyway. Liam
