Budget basses, anyone else fallen in love with their's?
LiamPodmore replied to a topic in Bass Guitars
Squier Jazz Deluxe V, cost me £170 for a shop floor model (Which f*cked up and was replaced with a brand spanking new 2010 model), my only complaint is the the B string, which lacks a little power, although i'm sure a good pro setup will sort that out, when i get around to it. Liam -
That'll be how almost all 'pro' venues do it, but I've not come across all that many 'mid-sized' places (read: a few hundred or so capacity) with a dedicated monitor desk. Roadhouse in Birmingham is a notable exception.
Even the smallest venue in Academy has a dedicated desk for monitoring. I was quite surprised to find that as well actually, its all top notch soundcraft stuff as well, and quality engineers. Liam

Stagg multi guitar stands? Good or bad?
LiamPodmore replied to LiamPodmore's topic in Accessories and Misc
These reviews are certainly making me want one. 2 Stingrays and 4 SG's?!?! Thats quite a lot of weight there. Liam -
Behringer amps work for some, but don't work for others. I personally wouldn't take the risk. As for the head/cab situation, you could get a 500w head and 4x10 on here for £300, but i would suggest in your situation going for a combo and possibly an extension cab. Ashdown MAG 300 210C with MAG 2x10 extension would probably do that well. Liam

Hello all, I was wondering if you fine ladies and gentlemen could help my band achieve our goal of 2000 views on our single by the end of 2011 and give us your opinions on it. We aren't far off, at around 1830 (At time of posting) so every last view counts. It was released sometime around the end of october/early november after being recorded at White Bear Studios in Adlington and the video shot at various locations around Westhoughton and Daisy Hill (Mostly our houses) Every last view counts, so a massive thank you in advance to everyone who watches it and gives their opinions. Thanks, Liam

I do both, i tend to be mostly fingers nowadays, but if the situation calls for a pick, then a pick will be used. Liam
How many basses do you have on stage? I thought I was extravagant having a spare in a gig bag propped up behind my amp! Are you Adam Clayton?
I like to have 2 on stage whenever possible as i use both, and i prefer my spare to be out of the bag, as close to me as possible so i can change as fast as i can, plus it will likely have the singers acoustic in it, and maybe another bass, depending on the gig. Liam -
St James' Primary School, Daisy Hill, summer family festival thing, some dancers and choirs and crap like that on from the school. We did 4 songs, 2 hours rehearsal time, i screwed up 2 of the songs, ended up rolling my volume knob off at the start of a song, and discovered that a 150w 1x12 Combo is crap outdoors. Liam
Re: compression on live vocals - it's an absolute ballache for mid-sized venues with mid-sized PAs, since as you say it's nice to have compression out front to even out the vocals a little bit, but if you apply that compression via the channel inserts (which is the 'standard' way of doing it), the compression ends up in the monitor mix as well, reducing your gain-before-feedback.
A good way to get around this, like they do at Manchester Academy (3 and Club are the only ones i've seen so far) which is use a splitter snake, to send the original signal to FOH and the monitor desk too. Seems to work pretty well for them and they always seem to have a good sound both on and off stage. Liam

I work doing IT Support in a school, and my Boss is also a gigging musician, so he has quite a bit of leniency for me when it comes to gigs and things like that, and has no problem letting me go a few hours early without booking the afternoon off. Liam

Les Pauls aint exactly light so thats quite a good thing to hear, and i actually didn't think of ebay at all somehow. Liam -
That's the best endorsement of anything I have ever heard of.
I'm very passionate about products i like Liam

Mine haven't changed shape at all, and that includes being sat on various times by my fat arse.... Liam
Interesting. Could you put your own filters in these or are they just basically solid?
They're solid, which is a bit of a downer really, as i would like to be able to change the attenuation because they sometimes take off a bit too much. I need to get another set really, as the one for my right didn't mold properly and it doesn't extend into my ear canal so doesn't block out as much as the other, but for £15 i can't complain. Liam

I use these myself, i changed from Hearos Rock n Roll as they didn't fit right and didn't make enough of a difference. These seem to work a lot better, although i have only played one or two gigs with them, and used them at one (Rise Against, so not quiet) and they made a hell of a diffrence there. Liam

Sounds good to me, if i'm ever around those parts for some reason or other, i'll be sure to book an appointment and pop in, but only if you serve Hot Chocolate too Liam

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpCJuBC7DLk Its really just my bands music video, but i do play in it too. The bass is mixed a little low for my tastes, so it isn't as prominent as it should be. Gear was a Squier Jazz Deluxe V, Mids on full, bass and treble flat, Ernie Ball Slinkies, fingerstyle. Through a either an RME Fireface or Focusrite OctoPre (Not sure which) and IK Multimedia Ampeg SVX. Liam

I tend to take 2 for a tonal variaton (5 string Jazz and a 4 string P/J is the usual) so i always have a backup technically, as although my main bass is a 5, i can easily do a 2 hour set with my main band on a 4. I have had experiences where i have needed 2 in the past, string breakages, batteries dying, jack sockets breaking etc.... Liam

What are you listening to right now?
LiamPodmore replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
The Live in Kansas acoustic section of Shinedown's "Somewhere In The Stratosphere" DVD. Quite possibly the best live performance ever caught on film (IMO) and they managed to take one of, if not THE biggest Foo Fighters Hit "Times Like These" and play it better than the Foo Fighters ever could (Again, IMO, and i love the Foos) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faX0V-FVcyE&feature=related 3 of what i think are the best male vocalists in rock nowadays, all in one band.
Pardon my ignorance, but can anyone recommend an Octave which offers both clean octave up and down? Does one exist? I am that clueless! (Not necessarily at the same time but that would be a bonus!)
First one that springs to mind is in the Line 6 M5/M9/M13 but i'm sure there's more around. Liam

Bass withdrawl: the shakes are setting in :(
LiamPodmore replied to Jim Other's topic in Introductions
Welcome to the forums Jim. Sorry to hear about your unfortunate bass related circumstances, but just think, there could be something better just around the corner, you never know. Liam -
Active/Passive switch ... can I?
LiamPodmore replied to Stratosphere's topic in Repairs and Technical
Same as icastle here, my squier goes through about 2 a year when its being played most days. My Ibanez GSR200 used to go through 1 a year somehow, its now being converted to passive because the EQ in it did f*ck all. Once you start learning more you'll start to use the EQ to find your sound, thats what happened to me. Also, batteries in basses dying isnt an instant thing, you'll start to notice lack of output and maybe a bit of hissing, so you'll know it needs changing. Liam -
I'm looking at a few multi guitar stands (The case type ones) and came across these 2 from Stagg. Anyone know of the quality/durability/etc.... of these, 'cause i could use a stand like this for my bedroom and on stage and obviously don't want a piece of crap that'll fall apart on me when i move it. The 2 stands in question: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/stagg-gdc-6-guitar-stand-case/6594 http://www.gak.co.uk/en/stagg-gdc-8-guitar-stand-case/6583 Both the same really, just one holds 2 more electrics, or 3 more acoustics than the other. Liam (Sorry for seeming very uhm... enthusiastic? I'm a little bored at work, although i am actually interested in these)
