Coupled to the fact it is actually a leftie bass, flipped (hence the 'reversed' P pickup)......with a load of ironwork welded to the front in order to cover the control cavity. Also note the 'control canister' to avoid any routing......and 'ducting' from the controls to pickup for wiring.......!

After a lengthy sabbatical it is time to dust off the gigging rig (Ashdown MAG250 210 Combo) and by extension, the Extension Cab......a MAG 115 Deep II (been using a GK Backline 112 for practice as it is slightly easier to hump up two flights of stairs to the flat....) Anyway, since I last used the full rig, I seem to have lost the speaker cable......(I know I can't just use an instrument cable....as my father suggested......!) I was given the lead by a friend as he had spares and didn't need it, it was a simple 1/4" Plug/Plug, cable (can't remember the make....), and a straight replacement would obviously work just fine...... However....the Extension Cab also has a Speakon port....so..... - Is it worth me getting a Jack/Speakon lead? - If so, do I want a 2 or a 4 Pole Connector....? - What brands should I look for/avoid, obvs I don't need a Besoke, Boutique, Unobtainium coated super lead......but would like to avoid something made of tin foil and string.....! Sorry if these are pretty silly questions, just want to get the right kit.....!
-
Cheers! Another side note......this would be my first bass that isn't full scale.....so was wondering.....would I need special midget strings.....or would my usual Super Slinkys work.....? (sorry if that is a silly question.....!) Sam

Hi People of Basschat This may all become irrelevant.....depending on whether I get it or not....But..... I am looking at getting an Epiphone Flying V bass, and was wondering if any of you knew of where to look for for a case for it, it doesn't need to be a hard case, just a bit of protection.....! Also what sort of stand is best for it.......obviously a small 'A' frame wouldn't hold it.......would a 'cradle and neck support' type work....or would I have to one of those extended Hercules type 'headstock hold and dangle' types? Cheers Sam

Thank you People! All good suggestions.....I'll see what I can do......at least it doesn't seem fatal!

Hi, I know this might be a non-starter/pointless question......but here goes......! I have an Ibanez JetKing Bass that I have had for a while.......trouble is that over time the two pickguards (one on the top portion of the body above the pickups and the other below, into which the pots are screwed) have warped (probably due to heat/cool/heat cool etc.....) and so between screws it is lifting from the body (quite considerably in places) Is there any way to remedy this....or is it a lost cause.....? Cheers Sam

This might be a bit of a daft question, but I was curious..... I was at a party at the weekend, where there was a live band, the bass player was using a HH V-S BassAmp, along with a HH 2x10" and 1x15" (I think!) It sounded great! What I was wondering was that he had the V-S head, and also a HH Power Amp connected up.....is this a requirement for the head....having a power amp stage.....or did it boost power......or.......!?! Cheers

I have a pretty sturdy Stagg one......was given it, so not sure of price.......but Stagg aren't a 'boutique' brand.....! -

Explorer has a Hipshot D-tuner

We had this last night at practice, lead guitarist was getting quite a bit of hum from his guitar when standing in certain places and positions..... and was fiddling with everything on his board and amp and leads......until I pointed out he was stood directly under a strip light.......!

Seems to love it..... He commented on how nice 'the clean clear 'Fender tones' are', also saying 'The Peavey (which he is keeping) can do a lot....but could never quite get that crisp'
-
But he did pick up a HotRod Deville for just a bit over the budget......and he seems really pleased with it! Thanks for the suggestions people!
-
Cheers people, will pass the info along! He plays Strats, virtually exclusively!

Hi A question on behalf of my father, who is looking to replace his once trusty, but now increasingly unreliable combo! He is currently using a Peavey Classic VTX 212 (65W Twin, from what I can remember.....) The budget is apparently 'around £300-350' Power wise.....'30-60W.....possibly as much as 100W' Wants valves, 'but doesn't have to be all Valve' He does NOT want a Marshall ('not a fan of the sound') Advice he has had so far has been either a Laney LC30 or Fender Twin Reverb He want a Combo, so no Head/Cab's need apply! So...any other suggestions or tips? Cheers Sam (on behalf of Stephen!)

Has been mentioned, Mr Dare, more than once.......! As for amps.......would a keyboard amp work......or am I yapping up the incorrect sapling......?
-
Now...there's an idea.....! ;-) Cheers for all the advice! To be fair, we are making a point to try and play at as low a volume as possible in practice - small room, so trying to be able to 'hear' ourselves (Vocals and Axes) trying to minimise feedback through the PA etc....one of our guitarist's amp is being run at about 25W (Vox Valvetronix with some weird variable power jobbie on it......) so the Ashdown is hardly conscious, let alone breaking a sweat.....even when the drummer is 'on one......' (you try telling an Italian to calm down......) So would something about 50W cope in the mix?
-
Hey FuNkShUi, Budget, well, cheapish - scour Ebay for a deal on something reliable rather than buy boutique and ultra-light..... Was more wondering about what sort of power to look for (obvs 10W is too Puny.......but would 50W cut it for example.....) It is a MAG Combo, 250W, 2x102 (with additional 1x15" cab for gigs)

Hi, I was just wondering what sort of wattage I would need in an amp for band practice - we are a fairly loud rock covers band, with a rather enthusiastic drummer..... I have a giggable amp in my Ashdown 210, but due to storage issues, having to manhandle that up two flights of stairs to my flat is getting tiring....so only want to do when I need to.....so smaller amp is needed for practices...... So, - What number of Watts would work? - Any ideas on what to get? Cheers Sam

I fitte one fitted to my Explorer Bass, (very easily done!) and really do like the convenience of it, particualarly when having to switch tuning on the fly at a gig, occasionally have tuning issues.....but easily sorted.....! I am seriously considering fitting one to my Squier P, but will need to get someone to do it as some drilling for screws will be needed, and I don't trust myself......still really want to do it as I am playing the P more and more at the moment!

Stig Pederson of Danish band D-A-D has been playing (and making) his own 2-stringers for years......as he found 'he only ever used two, so why have more.....' Two of his more interesting creations - http://www.metal-archives.com/images/8/5/1/0/85102_artist.jpg?2031 and http://nebula.gigahost.dk/v1/AUTH_fc62c141-0a58-488f-9d22-e42a03cd8505/images_c6b/500033218_8fa575210106823d6aed73b9f15e2891789870f8.jpg

How do you store/transport your cables/leads?
SPHDS replied to Mornats's topic in Accessories and Misc
I used to coil them (rather unsuccessfully) but then took to halving them repeatedly (hold both ends together, thus half the length it was originally, bring loop up to ends (halved again).....and so on until about a foot long) then secure with velcro tie. They are then stored in a suitably sized box/case (has got bigger over time......!) -
Not a lot of love for the Boss' then......? I have a Zoom 506 II but never really got on with it...... That B3 looks quite promising though.....might look into it Any more ideas anyone?

I am in the market for some sort of multi-effects board....but am not sure what to get...... I play in a rock covers band (Bad Co., Whitesnake, Skynnyrd, The Cult, Thin Lizzy.....) and want to add some more variety to my sound..... I have been drawn towards something like a Boss ME-50B or ME-6B as my father has had both of these in guitar form and rated them.....what are the pro's and con's of these two....and are there any others I should look at? Also would guitar boards be any good? (lot more of them about......) or would that be a bit of a lame duck....? Cheers

I am thinking of buying my father a soft case for his 12 string acoustic for Christmas (we are doing Secret Santa....so can't ask him about it......) So......I was wondering.....what do I get - I know it is longer than a normal acoustic due to longer headstock, but would it fit in a normal acoustic case....or is there a 'special' 12 string soft case.....or a bass case......! Been getting conflicting info when I do searches online.....! Cheers

Cheers Lads! So....another minor qu......the two knobs......two volumes and no tone.....or volume and tone? (this one didn't to have the stacked pots I see in pics of 'Pokes....!)
