The one that got away in 99/00 Manchester Bass Centre

I hummed and haah’d over of those too. Very nice But didn’t buy it though -
They are a good weight. the only changes I made were a set of DR fat beams strings and replaced the Mexican pots with a lovely new wiring loom supplied by Kiogon on here.

I have one of these. Great aren’t they ?

Love it it was a bit of a punt on EBay about ten years ago. It had been stripped of the lurid blue sunburst colour and oil finished so could potentially have been a a bit rough but was nicely done. It was a bargain as there were no other bidders. The only issues I had are the stacked pots were a bit knackered and hard to find to replace. I managed to change 1 of them. Peavey US sent me the last one on the planet I think but one of the tags had snapped off. It all works ok though. Have been think of swapping out the preamp for a while but I like the sound as is , despite the dodgy pots.

I photographed this tour at Wembley https://www.gettyimages.dk/detail/news-photo/photo-of-david-bowie-performing-live-onstage-on-glass-news-photo/84899816 -
I had a Kay precision copy in the mid ‘70s. it weighed a ton but after I changed the bridge and upgraded it with a cheap jazz bass copy neck it wasn’t too bad. Scroll forward to the mid’90s and I traded it for some lessons from a guitar teacher who was also a brilliant luthier. He de-fretted it, stripped off the varnish, added a decent pickup and drilled some big holes in it to reduce the weight. It became a really nice bass. It started life looking like this one.

Newbie advice please - just about to pull the trigger on a bass

And you get somewhere convenient to rest your thumb -
I love my Spectracomp. Tend to just use the default and occasionally a couple of the presets. Works just fine for me and haven’t done anymore than just briefly look at the tone editing page on my Mac and left immediately

I had those on my FSR mex precision. They are really nice on there too. These I think: https://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/strings-c1/string-sets-c865/bass-guitar-c34/fender-super-bass-7250m-nickel-plated-steel-bass-guitar-strings-45-105-long-scale-p928

I also really like the DR nickel plated low riders. They’re stiff, bright but feel nicer on the fingers

I’m a big fan of DR Fat beams and buy them direct from the US

I understand that Fender branded strings are made by D’addario snd are quite a good price.

Best basslines for a FRETLESS beginner?

New York Minute Don Henley great Pino bass part. I recently covered it on a Squier Fretless VM Jazz like yours -
That’s pretty much my approach with my Spectracomp 1 knob pedal too, and I’m very happy with it.I looked at all the tone mapping options after plugging it into a MacBook and quickly unplugged it and went back to the default setting. All a bit too scary for me.

1 x 15 & 2 x 10 in a stack, will there be issues?
lonestar replied to Gray C's topic in Amps and Cabs
My experience too Merton. I had 4x10 + 1x15 stacks for years as that’s what everyone else did. My 2x10 combo on top of a 2x10 cab does it for me these days. -
Strings direct are good. I actually found it cheaper to buy DR strings directly from the US from a store called bassspecialities on EBay. I last bought one set in December, no duty, about £27 including UPS I think. I once ordered 2 sets and got hit for duty and courier service charge, possibly over the limit ?.

It’s a great album, bought the vinyl album when it came out quite a few tracks also feature on Phil Manzanera’s album Phil Manzanera The Manzanera Collection;which is also great

I’ve had one of these on loan from a mate of mine for awhile now VM Squier. I’m not sure he’s getting it back anytime soon. Love it! Recorded this remotely with some old band mates on it: https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/yeHHVyv3jDSPKFjC8

I recently ordered a replacement loom for my Mexican FSR P bass. Really speedy and helpful communications and a quick delivery. All looks very neat; a top quality hand-wired product. Having seen the comments and John’s feedback on here for years I was not disappointed. Dead easy to fit and the bass sounds great. I can’t put my finger on why it does, but it just sounds ‘bigger’! It certainly has more top end bite with the tone control up, and nice smooth controls. Thanks John

That’s really nice. Love the baked neck. What make is the body?
