2. These look very tempting at this price. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Spector_Coda_Pro_5_Trans_Black.html Anybody tried one ?
3.
I remember when all this was trees. And you could leave your front door open. Is it time for my nap yet?
Aah, nostalgia isn't what it used to be. They used to come in sweet jars when I was a boy
4.
The great thing about most Dylan covers is they are always very different from his versions , so you've got options
If you can find it Michael Hedges live version of all along the watchtower
5.
With her looks how can you lose? Blue
Yes on both counts
6.
Some quite nasty comments about Liam on here , I wonder if you people are brave enough to say these things to him in person...?
An old colleague of mine came very close to a scrap, with Liam Gallagher at an awards do a few years ago. Sadly I wasn't there but I'm quite confident that John would have floored the obnoxious little gobsh*te
7. I use DR fat beams on mine. Love it
8. On one of the biggest outdoor gigs I'd ever played Ipicked up my 5 string and started playing horribly out of tune with everyone else but not by an instantly recoverable amount. It was excruciating. i had to stop and swap basses. I couldn't see the leds on my tuner so pulled out my spare lcd analogue when I had tuned my 5string between sets. Somehow the calibration on this rarely used tuner had been changed from 440hz to something else.
9. I have a Mighty Mite Fender licenced neck on my "precision". It came with a Fender Logo already applied when I bought it secondhand. Should I now scrape it off ? BTW It sounds fantastic

12. I love all four of my basses. But I may love the next one even more
13. Heard Imelda May on Robert Elms show last week Really like her voice on her new songs
14.
if its the USA youve decided on then consider a nice squier classic vibe and throw in a wizard thumper - should do the same thing for about half the beer tokens hope this helps
I have an a secondhand SX precision( nice piece of ash) bitsa: wizard thumper, cts pots and goto 70s tuners. I fitted a s/h mighty rosewood mite neck. Sounds lovely and ticks all the p bass boxes for me. Whole thing cost me £185 in total.
15.
I agree. The trick is to play songs that people will know, but don't necessarily hear very often.
Yes
16. My take on this is if playing pubs where people have gone out on a Saturday night to see a band why assume that they are such philistines that they can only accept mustang on fire, brown eyed now, honky tonk sugar etc and have any less sophisticated or eclecttic tastes in music than me or the rest of the band. As someone said earlier in this thread, with 60 years of popular music to chose from can it really be that hard to find numbers that people like to listen to, get drunk, or dance to and are fun to play. Be a little adveturous, see what works and throw out what doesn't,or is getting a bit stale and you end up with a great setlist
17. Our local poundland stocks simply duracell and they are pretty cheap. Not sure if they're different to regular ones. Pp3 I've always used duracell industrial or pro bought onlinein my active bass. Cheap and seem to last well but can't compare as I don't use many. For my canon flashguns I use recharcheable 2600mh 7 day shop AA cells which are very good, until they lose their memory but cheap enough and seem to last quite well Avoid Ikea Batteries-ive had a couple leak and they don't last long
18.
I find James Jamerson lines tend to be among the more tricky as they're typically not repetitive and feature a lot of subtleties. The bass line to Bernadette is a deceptively tough one to perfect
Try For Once in my life. Jeez
19. Kay precision bass copy HH vs bass amp A huge kind of orange/acoustic reflex bass cab type of thing that sounded fine closeup but would rearrange a persons digestive tract at 100 paces. and quickly curtailed my career with that band as my dad selfishly refused to transport it on the roof rack as it was denting the VW beetle roof
20. A shot of John Entwistle with a reverse firebird in front of a stack of Sunn speakers playing Won't Get fooled again
21. Having celebrated my other 40th over four years ago and having spent a good number of those either as a member, or latterly depping in wedding/party/ function/covers bands. That seems to have dried up a bit of late and although the money is good and I quite enjoy them most of the time, I'm coming to the conclusion that I'm getting a bit long in the tooth for this. It seems that the "pro" ones are mainly thirty something blokes in waistcoats and often beards and sometimes a svelte young lady or two. Probably more suited to the target audience demographic for weddings especially. Much as i can keep up musically I don't want to be the fat old git at the back who doesnt quite fit in. I am however happily playing with several other old gits of a similar age and experience in a couple of other bands Nothing non pc or ageist as far im concerned. Just horses for courses
22.
How strange that you should mention Nausea. For there is a strikingly prophetic passage in Sartre's 1938 existentialist novel La Nausée which bears upon this very topic. Antoine is sitting in the park contemplating things (as is his wont):
Mange toute mange toute mon amis Le petit bassiste américain est super
