1. I had wondered where you'd been Pete and missed you at the last nearly dan gig I went to the other week. I'm so pleased that you're on the mend and hope that you're back on the road again soon. Echoing all the above sentiments well done for taking the right step. So many don't. Keep well and all the very best to you and yours Mike
2.
Take a break, but don`t sell all your gear. You may find a renewed interest in music a few years down the line, and having to then re-buy is a pain - I`ve been there. Just sounds to me like your interest for your current band has gone. Once you start to resent gigging it really gets to you, so leaving is def best for both you and the band.
Yep very sound advice. Take a break but keep your gear.
3. Nearly Dan. About an hour ago in Bury St Edmunds. They were great despite No Pete Academy though
4. Pretty much all of the albums mentioned so far would be in my top ten for the '80s, but notably So and Songs From the Big Chair. I'd also nominate talking Heads Remain in Light.
5. Always happy to help with basic set ups for guitars and basses and simple soldering jobs. North Essex/Cambridge
6. Listening to it on the way home today I had already forgotten how good The Next Day album is. Great drums and bass.
7. If you can get hold of a copy of stuart clayton's excellent nile rodgers bernard edwards funk and grooves book it may help. Id go fingerstyle unless you can work the chucking thing up to speed.
8. Not sure I'd have a suitably "elaborated persona". Strange use of English maybe not their first language. Like the point about rehearsing vs learning and I'd prefer an ad that states what's required before turning up for an audition as this does to be fair.
9.
Impossible to choose, but listening to Let's Dance today I had forgotten how much I liked Cat People (Putting Out The Fire). Was sad to hear that Bowie had gone off that album, and yes, it was very 80's, but I still love it.
We used to play China Girl ( nice bass) and Heroes in a previous band.would have liked to have done Cat People. Great song. Not sure about the film, apart from Natassia Kinski of course
10. Too many to chose but just heard Drive in Saturday on the radio which would certainly be a contender
11.
Just discovered his work over the Xmas break and wondered if anyone else is into his stuff? Gonna start exploring some Brand X. Some interesting techniques he uses in this series: http://youtu.be/cgUMguYktPE
Brand X livestock album is great. I first heard Percy Jones on this in 1977, bought the album and still have it. I must dig it out for a listen.
12.
"Hej" is looking good though! Thank you!
I spend a lot of time watching Swedish crime drama !
13. Hej Pelle Welcome to Basschat. Your English is far better then my Swedish
14.
The forum is very entertaining at the moment. I'm thinking of starting a thread asking if the bass player from The White Stripes is really all that good and see what reactions I get
Not as good as the one in the Doors
15.
Mr Blue, whoever you are, you're really getting a bit tiresome about all of this. I studied at the Royal College of Music. If I can write sensibly about Stockhausen and tone-rows, then I think my tiny brain can just about cope with Jaco's noodling and Macca's rather naive use of passing notes and modalities. Your opinion is no more valid than mine or anyone else's. How do you know how long I've spent listening to MCartney or Pastorius (or Jamerson, Berlin, East, Levin, John Paul Jones, Bruce, Squire.......)? John Deacon stopped for the greater good. We should praise him...
Like button
16. I saw them a couple of years ago at Brentwood sports centre with Kiki Dee supporting. Brilliant show and they sounded great.
17. SX basses
18.
In that case, what's a "guitrist"?
Like a guitard but more stupider
19. I need one! Second year with no gig in the diary yet. I'd much rather be gigging than sitting at home watching Jools Holland.
20.
Don Henley - New York Minute. Cheesy, cheesy as anything, massive guilty pleasure but one of the best fretless bass parts on record. Pino Palladino at his finest. I don't tell anyone that I listen to it though
Here here
21. Thats very nice.
22.
I was mesmerised by the optical illusion making his drumsticks look bendy.
Rolling shutter effect
