  1. I dug this out of the back of a cupboard. It plays very well, was almost still in tune and sounds pretty good, so I thought I might resurrect and upgrade it. I have Tonerider pickup and some Mex P electrics somewhere in a drawer which I might fit, as I don’t really want to spend much on it. I originally got it from my brother as swap for a leather jacket back in the ‘80s. Anyway I like the way the scratch plate has faded slightly so any suggestions what I can use to repair the crack with ? I don’t mind if it isn’t perfect cosmetically.
  2. I'm not sure I'd want to haul that up and down through the lift hatch too often either!
  3. He sure was. He also did a clever left hand thing, which I'll not even attempt, certainly with all those 16ths ! I saw a vid explaining how he fretted a note with one finger and muted with another on the same hand while playing those fast runs.
  4. Soul with a Capital S Tower of Power. In fact any of the three numbers with Rocco Prestia bass parts that we do.
  5. “It’s not you it’s us; we don’t like you.” Still waiting for an opportunity to use that line to fire a band member. However, in this situation I think an honest, quiet conversation, probably not by text, is the best option. Might be a quick one, but better to be upfront with her.
  6. Used to do Call Me Al and Diamonds on the Soles of her shoes in a previous band, despite not having a fretless. The bridge pickup on a Jazz worked.
  7. Most of my prejudices are based on aesthetic features: Single cut basses Coffee table finishes, often goes with the above. Relic’d basses Headless basses. The look of Alembics, apart from John Entwistle explorer one, although I’m sure they’re superb basses, if a bit extortionate. Ditto Wal and Warwick shapes. I play four and five string basses but have never felt the need for a six.
  8. We used to cover this on a previous band. Great song. Wish i’d had this !
  9. It's a '62 Precision for me. Or a '64 or a '63 would do; I'm happy to lie about my age if need be
  10. David Bowie acknowledged that Anthony Newley was an influence.
  11. does he keep his hat on?… Ill get my coat
  12. Lovely gig on Friday in Debenham, Suffolk, at the Community centre. After a horrible 11/2 hour journey cross country we were really well looked after with BLTs and tea by the team there. Nice stage and excellent sound, courtesy of pro sound engineer Peter and his wife running the house rig plus some of his monitors. It’s a big room with a high ceiling but Peter really did a top notch job. A decent sized crowd, packed dance floor and overall a very friendly place to play. It’s only the third music gig that they’ve put on and they deserve to do very well. Lots of nice comments afterwards from the audience and on social media. https://www.facebook.com/thegrayprojectband.
  13. That's what I tried

Help please
  15. Yep me too
  16. We played a few gigs at the John Peel Centre in Stowmartian. Terribly pay but very nice venue and gigs.
  17. I played that in Edinburgh in August. it’s been on the shelf for ages. Not sure why as it felt and sounded great I was quoted a best price of £1400, although the ticket still said £1799 so maybe that’s why. If I’d been in the market for another 4 string jazz I’d have brought it home.
  18. Last night with The Gray Project was at the White Horse in Beyton. A regular for us they’ve been very supportive of the band and it’s always a fun gig, if a bit cramped sometimes. Nice local crowd and the icing for me, in addition the the lovely pre-gig steak pie and chips, was going to the bar at the end and a chap, who’s seen us a couple of times, buying me a pint and both him and his mate shaking my hand telling me I’m a superb bass player. He said he played bass in a blues rock band and couldn’t play the half stuff that I did. Surprisingly neither of them appeared particularly drunk either. Which was nice. I’ve taken to using my rig upright as advised in several posts on here. It definitely sounds better to me and my band mates have also commented positively.
  19. Lovely couple of gigs this weekend. Yesterday A very friendly village pub in Suffolk who laid on a marquee and barbecue and very sensibly scheduled us to play between and 5 and 7pm. It was like finishing work at lunchtime and going home early. Which was nice. Flattering comments about both band and bass player from the very receptive crowd. Today was Bnatural Festival in Bildeston. Band on top form, plug in and play and another early finish. I’d forgotten how good an SVT sounds (so long as someone else carries it) on stage The sound engineer says he also has an 8X10 but it was a bit much for the stage today. With 4 subs out front, and the SVT and 1x15 classic cab my bass sounded huge.
  20. And now with extra octaves courtesy of @uncle psychosis I’m very pleased with it
  21. Hardly used, cheap but effective OC2 type pedal.Velcro on the bottom. £23 posted
