Do I want to sell my Bergs and go Barefaced?
eddiehoffmann replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
So.... Ashdown... Wooly? Discuss
My rig consists of a S12 and either an Ashdown ABM500 or a Spyder 550. It sounds great and I think the fact that band mates and soundmen alike constantly compliment me on my tone means I'm not alone in that opinion. Like someone mentioned before, perhaps with Barefaced cabs more so than with other brands, you have to go about the eq-ing process with a fresh approach. Specially regarding the mids. Before my S12 I was using an Aguilar GS 212, which is a great cab, but needed way more mids and a touch less bass dialled in than the S12 requires to achieve my sound. In comparison to the Aguilar, I feel the Barefaced fills the room better. Also, the Aguilar sounded too compressed to my ears when playing loud. The S12 sounds better the louder you play, I'm not joking. I play in a band where the guy who runs it doesn't want to spend money on a decent PA or on a car big enough to carry one, so our PA is small and barely god enough for the vocals. I can't get away with a cab that's good enough for monitoring purposes only in that gig. The moment I bought the S12 the problem was sorted. The way it fills a marquee wit beautiful bass it's a bit supernatural, hehe. I have to play loud on stage, granted, but that's all I can do. And wear earplugs -
OMG. You are Mike Marlin's bass player. I came across him when he toured with The Stranglers. Seen him a couple of times. Good band and great albums.
Yes I am But I wasn't in the band when he toured with the Stranglers. I recorded the last album, Grand Reveal, in 2012 and have been part of the band ever since.

Hey guys! Here's a video with the highlights of a gig we did at The Clapham Grand in May supporting Then Jerico. It was the last gig of the tour we did supporting them and I think we're sounding pretty tight We'll be playing at the Good Ship in Kilburn next Wednesday (16/10). Hope to see some of you there. Hi guys! For sale or for trade here (try me) is my as new, in the box Zoom B3. The only difference from a brand new one from the shop is that I put some good quality velcro on the bottom and I unfortunately misplaced the original rubber (ish) feet. Not a scratch or anything on it. Used at home for a week and gigged only once. Impulse and unnecessary buy that now has to go. Here are some pictures I took yesterday: Price is £100 posted in the UK. Cheers, Eddie
What connections are on the back please? Manual on the net is unclear on whether the DI is xlr?
Hey mate. I know the online manual is a bit confusing. Some of the early models didn't have the xlr line out. Not the case with this one. From the pictures I posted (or tried to post) you can see it's got both xlr and jack balanced line out at the back. Pre or post preamp, as you wish. Let me know if you have any more questions. Cheers -

Nile Rodgers at Hyde Park - embarrassing
Why can't we have free gigs now ?( I was very young back then , I hasten to add ) Bands would play for cost because of the massive exposure and publicity they would get , the place would be packed for any half-decent bill and it would be a real pick-me-up for London and Britain as a whole at a time when we need it .
Yeah, but in those days everybody was making money selling records. -

Ever since I moved to the UK (almost 6 years ago) the sound have been absolute crap on at least 80% of the gigs I've been to. Doesn't matter if it's the O2 or Shepherd's Bush Empire, or some smaller venue. I think the only occasion I can recall where the sound was killer was at a Bootsy Collins gig at the Indigo O2 a couple of years ago. One of the best live sounds I ever heard in my life, specially with so many people on stage. TM Stevens had problems with his rig, but that didn't compromise the show at all to be honest. Three bass players on stage in total, haha! Festivals? The only way I will ever be at a Festival is if get paid to do so. -
