    Up for sale is a rather lovely Lakland 55-60. It has been fitted with Aguilar pickups. Alder, Rosewood board on a maple neck. 3 Tone Sunburst Mint white pickguard It has been gigged with some swirls on pick guard BUT I would say it is an incredibly clean bass. No marks or bumps to speak of. The neck is slim and fast. Neck sizes as per pictures. Low fast action. Tuners smooth and accurate. 4.4kg/9.7lbs on my scales. To note. Some Oxidisation on pole pieces. Zero impact on the sound. Small wear marks on side of neck as it meets the body (treble side, you can’t see it!) as pictured. Zero impact. This is used bass. I’ve gigged it in variety of styles.     As above i use 2 QSC K10s and single RCF 12 sub. Its always enough for pubs and clubs. We still use backline for bass and drums. The separation is the key for me. The K10s working from 80 Htz upwards takes a load of dynamic energy (probably wrong term) away and they sound ‘attractive’ to my ear. Loud, but not taxing. All the usual space restrictions and apply, so the sub is under one of the K10s. I set the mix, it doesn’t honestly change much from gig to gig and the set the Sub attenuator to suit the room. it works for me. In the same way I adjust the sub 150hz levels on my bass guitar amp, to suit the room. It works for me.

    I use a single 12” RCF sub with a couple of QSC K10s. The benefit has always been to ‘clean up’ the mix to my ear. I never look to make beer glasses rattle, if I’m honest I err on the side of less is best. There are always a ton of variables that will complicate the sonic nature of a room. I’ll always have a Sub in use; but not use it to try and dislodge internal organs.

    0000 Steel Wool. Quite a weapon in the shining of frets. My grubby 88 Squier neck looks quite sparkly!

    Keep yourself agile and adaptive… Know your main gigging set on both 4 & 5 string instruments. (Properly now…making use of the B string and the positions it affords you). Have two identical cases and be blissfully unaware of what your tool is for the night, until sound check. Keep a tally of which band members actually notice. (NB This activity could be extended to 6 or 8 strings; indeed you could keep a bass with a purposely snapped string…)

    Done a fair bit of depping. I think it’s a healthy thing for me. It always makes me reflect on what I am doing…and why. Cues, learnt behaviour, assumed signals; it all gets chucked back at you. Most recent was 6 piece function band a a military black tie dinner. 4 deps, 2 had never played with any of the other musicians. It was a little bit squeaky bottom, but you realise pretty soon that there is a pot of material that 95% of musos have somewhere in their head…

    Looking to restring my Lakland 55-02. Gauge on there from new is 45/65/85/105/128. Yes I could source a set of Lakland Strings that would be exactly the same, but £52 + £19 postage from the US is nuts. Lots of searching and the exact gauge doesn’t seem to exist. Obviously realise that up to a 130 or down to a 125 on the B is not gonna change much. The stock B is tapered, which seems a good idea. Its a 35” scale and is currently strung thru the body- someone will tell me it matter limited difference! So. If you own a 55-02 what have you gone with to replace stock? Or you can give an objective perspective! Hit me.

    I bolt two Mega Tripar lights into the M10 flying points on top of my QSC K10s FOH cabs. Two flood across the front and two point onto the drum kit. Uplight drums with another single light under the toms. No lighting stand required.

    The gig where: Access is easy. The drummer has turned up early and is almost set up as you arrive. It’s IEMs all round. Audience dance all night Fee is decent Drinks tab included. You're not driving. No queue for kebabs. Does it get any better! 😎

    Put your money away. Great basses. Well built and with a great tone. Second hand basses changing hands for more than the ‘new’ price. Just seems madness. Let the prices calm down. Their rock solid construction means the same basses will be for sale for ‘tomorrow’.

    Shure 535s With kick, sniff of the snare and overhead is plenty for me. overheads give stick counts, etc and sufficient other drums and cymbals.There are no amps, so stage volume is low and therefore IEM is not fatiguing on the ears. Keep your mix simple. Some people try to recreate the FOH mix. Just have what you actually need and listen.

    Straightforward! Genz Head bass has seen 500+ gigs. Usually a head, sometimes a DI. Clean and clear. Been round a few blocks with cabs, but the Vanderkleys are very good for me. Clear and with the ability to handle and give out real guts.

    What ever you buy, don’t be scared of buying 2nd hand off BassChat. Even ‘new’ kit will be cheaper and older/heavier stuff goes for Peanuts. What head and bass are you using?
