1. I try to do at least 30 minutes a day. That will usually be revising stuff I already know, just strengthening and stretching the fingers. I also have two 3 hour rehearsals a week plus the odd gig at a weekend, or learning new stuff for the next rehearsal.
2. Trampled Underfoot by Led Zeppelin. Bonham was a genius.
3. If you're not enjoying it, best to call it a day. I recently left a band under similar circumstances, rehearsals had became a real chore and dreaded due to endless arguing. I have now formed a new band with some real mates and rehearsals are a laugh, learning new songs and starting to gig again.
4.
Musicians are just running out of chords.... (includes Under The Bridge, funnily!)
That is brilliant!
5. Eyes of a Stranger - Queensryche
6. I used to love a modern ultra-clean planky tone, but now tend to to go a much fuller tone with a bit of gain. It would seem to be an age thing!
7. Quite a tough one. No brainers like Sabbath, Purple and Priest are obviously up there, but maybe something more like Queensryche or Marillion.
8. I've never had a problem with my Marshall bass amps, but recently had an issue with a 15 year old Valvestate guitar amp. Dropped it off at Bletchley on a Tuesday, picked it up on Friday having been serviced, new valve and 2 pots fitted, all for £40, plus they called me on my mobile as I wasn't at home to tell me it was done.
9. We use I Wanna Be Your Dog by Iggy and the Stooges. Nice easy warm up with plenty of punch.
10. I couldn't get on with an Ibanez SR300 I bought a while back. Great tone, friendly neck but just had nowhere to anchor my thumb due to the curved pickups. I suppose I could have learnt to "float" my thumb, but it was bought on a whim and only play my Jazzes really so I let it go. Great bass, just not for me.
11. I'm interested in getting one of these, but would like to know if it will be loud enough to compete with a fairly loud drummer in a rock band. Maybe the 2x10 would be a better way to go?
12. Also in two bands. Usually I practice Monday night with one, Tuesday with the other. I have rehearsed on a Friday night occasionally, but only if a weekend gig is coming up and we want to tighten up a new song.

OldGit

Very sad news. Although I only knew him through the forum, he was one of the most undemanding, unprejudiced and helpful people I have ever come across. You will be missed.
14.
Ah, well, it is my birthday
Happy Birthday!
15. Wolfgang Van Halen for stealing Michael Anthony's gig! Or Nikki Sixx...
16. Just checked, mine sucks air in rather than expels it. I've never experienced this over heating issue, but Marshall have always been very helpful when contacting them about my dodgy Valvestate guitar combo, give them a ring.
17. I use Cubase Essential alongside Line 6 Pod Farm, and it does everything I need plus more. I do think however a lot of it is because having used it for years, I know my way around it now. All of the software mentioned would do a good job, so maybe it's a case of which is easiest/quickest to learn.
18. They were REALLY good at Sonisphere. Looking forward to the new album immensely.
19. A Fender Jazz bass for me every day. I have two MIMs that the necks are thin and fast but round enough at the back to fill the hand comfortably without feeling chunky. They both have Gotoh 201 bridges on, not because of the more mass/more sustain argument, but they limit sideways movement and raise the strings above the scratchplate a tad so I can dig in without hitting the scratchplate with my fingers as I play. Necks are shimmed to allow the action to be reasonably low without a lot of fret buzz. The placement of the neck pickup gives me something to hook my thumb on. These factors have made the Jazz the most comfortable and natural feeling bass for me to play. I have tried and owned Precisions, Ibanez Soundgears and Warwick Corvettes, but I always come back to the Jazz bass. On one I have SD Bassline Hots to give me more of a mids emphasis, and the other has the standard pickups which give me a nice vintage tone. I tried some MIA and CIJ Jazzes at the time I bought the first MIM Jazz, but the MIM just felt nicer to me and the fret finishing was better, plus I was much happier to tinker with and modify a £400 bass rather than a £900 one! It may not be the most obvious choice to use a Jazz to play heavy/thrash metal, but it does the job for me.
20. Cheers for that, very interesting. Wasn't he playing Ramble On rather than What Is And What Should Never Be in the first part though when talking about melody?

Cheers for an easy transaction! Kept me informed at all times and despatched very quickly. The bridge is in mint condition and already installed. Many thanks!
22. JPJ Geezer Butler Steve Harris Flea Cliff Burton
23. I tend to have the amps eq flat with a slight bottom end and upper mids boost, and the Jazz has both pickups and tone on full to get a "growly" rock tone that will cut through two guitars.
24. RT seems to a be thoroughly decent guy. He is also involved in fundraising to help with the medical costs for Chi Cheng of the Deftones
25. Congrats are in order for posting peoples questions and your answers on the page. I wish more sellers did this. Good luck with the sale as well!
