That's a pant-wetting collection of P basses you've got there - very impressive indeed. Groove on, BB

Welcome Steve - have a good look round, it's a kind of fun place. Only been here about four weeks and have already learned some wretched jokes. The bassers are a good crowd. Stay groovy BB
I like it..looks cool..can't see any seams..how did you hide these?
Cheers Greek, The joins were glued, not sewn, hence the clamps in the pics. This can be seen in one or two places where the overlap causes a slight bulge. Basically, I had a front face, a rear face and an edge strip. And to be honest, it was an absolute b*tch of a job to do, with more than a little cursing going on. Stay groovy, BB PS - Burrito - what an axe!

Hi folks, After my belated introduction to the forum yesterday, a fellow BCer has suggested that I confess my bondage sins to the porn forum... A few weeks ago I kidnapped my own perfectly good Fender Jazz bass and subjected it to some ritual humiliation. After taking it apart and stripping it down to it's bare flesh, I smothered its defenceless curves with epoxy resin before dressing it in tight reptile-print black leather, applying some harsh clamps to show it who was the boss. Pics below. Ooh, you know you want to look... Our drummer is an accomplice after the fact - he thinks the clamps should stay! It is a punk band... Stay groovy, BB

Thanks guys. Paul - yup, that was my Trace rig in the porn section. Back from the dead, and louder than ever. Burrito - funnily enough, I was thinking the same thing. I'll try to get something up today! Cheers, BB Edit - and here it is! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=116468

Hi Basspeeps, I've been posting on this forum for a few weeks now, but thought I should get around to putting a proper intro together. Based in sunny West Bromwich near Birmingham, I'm currently the bass player-cum-occasional-singer with The Undercocks, a four-piece 70s punk covers band (Clash, Costello, Pistols etc). We've been gigging for a little over two years now - we did 40 last year and have about 25 lined up so far for next year. We gig across the Midlands, so do try to drop by if you can. You can find gigs at www.theundercocks.com Now 43, I've played the bass and other instruments for donkey's years, although as a lefty (and a poverty-stricken one at that), it's always hard to find a good axe. Currently playing a Mex Fender Jazz, which I decided to cover in black reptile-print leather the other day for no good reason, along with a 1990 Trace Elliot stack. Recently I thought the amp was done for, but a £60 service has brought it back to a very loud life. I also play guitar, keys, drums and a bit of alto sax, and have a home studio running Logic Pro off a Mac. I'm also a freelance copywriter/graphic designer, so do let me know if you need any artwork done Bass players I admire: Bruce Thomas, Norman Watt-Roy, Aston 'Family Man' Barratt Gear I want: Lefty Jaguar, MM Bongo That's about it folks. Stay groovy, Boris

After a quick whizz through, I didn't see any of these, so here goes: Nice and friendly (and thumpingly loud) AH200 Series 6 GP12 with 1153, but also with a 2103x - a super cab with loads of range (but at 31Kg, not a lightweight) For a while I thought the head was done for, but after a £60 service it's serving me well again.
Hey Boris, I just scored a 1048 for ultra-dirt-cheap, and I'm planning on putting it atop the 1153. That 2103x there sounds like an interesting cab- one of those good things "they" don't make anymore! If I can find one I'll certainly check it out- thanks for the encouragement!
Groove on, Bassie. Have fun with the new cab. You'll probably shake the foundations in Boston now! BB

If you read 1 thing today, please let it be this...

Sounds like you're doing pretty well. I can't help but agree with WaterofTyne - better to be out in the real world than obsessing in a bedroom, but then again, everyone has to practice somewhere. The trick is finding something that you *like*, rather than just being good at. I'd imagine that most of the bass players here want to: a) just enjoy being in a band. Heck, it's fun. b} get paid if possible c) get girls (or guys). Alternatively, they're trying to get time away from the wife (or husband) d) get famous There probably aren't many who've achieved all of this, but it ain't half fun trying. So, relax and enjoy. Play music you like, with people you like. Get gigs. Get a following. Get a manager/promoter. It's bloody hard work, but just keep enjoying. Bestaluck BB -
As a fellow Trace player, I'd recommend another cab, not a new head. The 1153 is fine for belting out thick bottom end, but maybe you need another cab that will tease out the tones that your SMX can easily achieve. My amp is an AH200 Series 6 GP12 - a couple of models behind yours. I also run it with a 1153, but also with a 2103x, which is a 2x10 with 2x5. That's a heck of a lot of tone, especially with a 12 band graphic. Unfortunately at 31Kg (65-odd lbs) the 2103 isn't a lightweight, but it gets a tone and punch you might like. Just a thought anyway. Have fun. BB

Not a thing. I used to have a Line 6 LD300 with a pedal board for effect, but got bored very quickly. Now I just go straight into a Trace Elliot Series 6 GP12 with a 1x15 and 2x10 (with 2x5) and Bob's-yer-bass-playin'-uncle... BB

I suppose much will depend on what amp you're playing it through, but for a limited budget I really think you'll do well with a Fender Jazz. Bestaluck BB
The 500W will be equally divided between two cabs of the same impedance, i.e. 250W each.
Many thanks Dincz.

Hi folks, I've recently discovered this forum, and think it's just great. This is my first post though, so be gentle... I've read through all the posts in this highly useful thread, and have certainly learned a great deal. However, here's my situation: I currently run a Trace Elliot AH200 (Series 6 GP12) into two 300W 8 ohm TE cabs (a 1153 and 2103x). I take one output from the back of the head, then daisy chain the two cabs together by XLR. So, from what I've learned from this thread, this is a parallel 4 ohm cab set-up, delivering 200W. However, the AH200 is on its way out. I've also got two loud guitarists to cut through in the band, so I'm thinking of getting of getting an AH500 head that I've spotted on Flea Bay. The idea is to use the same speakers, so the cabs would theoretically receive a max of 500 W. However, they're 300W cabs. My question - is this a no-no because the output power of the amp would exceed the wattage of the cabs? Or do two cabs at 300W each effectively give me 600W? Alternatively, anyone got a TE 250 or 300W SMX??? Many thanks, BB
