1. I hope you have a healthy supply of stab vests!
2. Aroundabout Sound is brilliant as is A Remus. They're the only two worth a visit in Glos/Chelt. Soundhouse is pap as is Millennium Music. Vintage Strings seemed okay when i went in though - but it was only once. Had a very tasty Ric 4001 from the 70's... over 3k though!
3. First Bass: Stagg P/J Go To Bass: Squier VM Jaguar 'My' Bass: Musicman Stingray 2eq.
4. Correct! Although it is now Sean's westone thunder jet 1!
5. Rule of thumb on old trace gear. 1) Incredibly loud, ignore how man watts it is it'll be loud enough 2) Built like tanks 3) Therefore as heavy as one.
6. I would offer you a trade on a giant trace elliot combo... but it appears that a bad knee and a bad back + trace elliots DO NOT MIX! Best of luck with your health and the sale. That is the best T40 i've seen.
7. Bump for price drop. Will trade for combos?
8. I really liked my old Stingray 4. Agreed, not a stingray 'tone' par se but decent electronics to morph your tone. Well built and very playable - on par with VM squiers IMO. At that price you're mad not to!
9. I thought i bought this bass in a basschat record. I think it's been trumped! Sold pending the usual to Sean!
10. Hey Guys, After purchasing a simply delicious Squier VMJ 77 i'm going to move this on to a new loving home. It's served me well - classic P tones in a lovely stealthy japcrap shell. It's basically a Westone Thunder 1 but a limited run in all black with black hardware. Currently strung with flats it does a dub/motown sound beautifully. I'll get some pictures up for you shortly. £90 collected from SW Brum/Cheltenham/Gloucester/London (13th/14th feb only for London) Tom EDIT: Pictures from old thread. Exactly the same condition - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...one+thunder+jet I may well be interested in a trade for a valvey OD pedal.
11. Also, if you're considering one, i've been reading up on talkbass about these and it seems there are some QC issues - get one from a shop rather then the net to make sure you don't get a dog!
12. I A/B'd it with the sunburst and maple with blocks but not rosewood. Full volume on the neck and roll of the tone you've got all the dubby thump you'll need with a bass heavy EQ. The neck on the 77 is also slimmer then on the sunburst one IMO. Just felt rapid! It's also lighter then my old natural VMJ... feels a little slimmer?
13. Aha but that would be a lie!
14. Today i finally clicked with a bass! Sat down and it felt like playdoh in my childlike hands which i could manipulate to play anything i wanted in any sound I desired! I've had a VMJ before but I had a pop on one of the new black ones with white block inlays. My my. Warm phat tones from the neck pup rolled off the tone and a sweet nasal sing from the solo'd bridge. All for 300 smackers. You could call me a very very happy boy!!!!
15. You cheeky begger! I'll have a peek.
16. I was thinking perhaps getting an active bass to replace the Westone - i could control the EQ from the bass and keep the trace flat with a touch of preshape (it really sings set up like this). The ATK can go from phatness to punchy clang... that could work.
17. If I roll the tone on the Westone all I get is 'plonk' - I think that's the only way of describing it!
18. Hmmmmm but i REALLY love the tone at the moment for dubby magic! I'm tempted by getting a jazz and a sansamp.
19. Heh, maybe! I wouldn't mind a CV jazz... though the neck might be a bit pencilly. The 34 rays or subs seem pretty sweet too.
20. Haha, sorry Zak. Small world!
21. The Westone Thunder 1 is a passive P style bass from the 80's. A beautiful piece of japcrap! I've got it strung with flats. I think you're right - i might have to go down the fx road to get the variety of tones.
22. Hey guys, My influences include ska, reggae, indie and other forms of contemporary music. I need to be able to flick between ultra deep bass and sything (almost a classic rock 'valve' OD tone) sometimes within songs to emphasise the ebb and flow within a track. What sort of set up would you recommend? I currently run a Westone Thunder Jet into a Mk2 Trace Elliot 4x10 combo. This gives me a very distinctive sound but something very rigid. I was thinking something along the lines of an Ampeg SVT450h into a Hartke 2x15 cab (or the peavey 18+2x10 in the for sale forum on here) Would this suit what i am looking for or should I be looking towards a more high end valve head for a grindy ballsy tone? Tom
23. Zack? Is that you Zack?
24. Cheers mate! Hey, not far from you. Sure you don't want it?
