Yes, its shallow-ish, slightly shallower than the BB1024 I owned before this. It’s such a solid, well-built beast of an instrument! And it’s the loudest bass I own unplugged. What I’d really like is a white one (like Johnathan Marons) to go alongside this that I could string with flats.... that would be very indulgent but completely necessary ofcourse 😂

I thought I’d chime in with my BB now it’s been restored to its former goldy-ness with a replacement set of tuning machines... I acquired this BB about a year ago. It came with non-original Gotoh tuners in silver which clashed a little with the other gold hardware, so when a gold set of schallers appeared here on BC I could resist! I also previously installed a BB2024 p’up for a bit more thunderous low end! Love this bass!

Looks interesting - I doubt it started life like this, it would probably help the sale if Carl could comment on its originality (if he remembers!)

I bought a bass off David. Probably the most well packaged bass I’ve ever received! A quick and pleasant transaction. Thank you!

Up for sale, my MiJ MM Jazz. This is a 2007 build. This has received some mods: - Nordstrand NJ4 Pickups - KiOgon solderless passive loom -V/T , V/T plus a series parallel switch and a mute switch. The tone capacitors are different values to give some more variety. As such, this is no longer an active bass. The original pre-amp and pups are long gone. The bass weighs 4.4kg UK shipping and hard shell case included in price.

Yes, ordered via a company called Sontec that supply Yamaha parts in the UK... not the best customer service but the p’up arrived eventually.

Great thread - I’ve also been on a BB journey over the last year... it started with a 1024 which blew me away, one of the best P tones I’ve heard and so much bass with the tone rolled off! Then I saw an ‘84 BB3000 for sale and curiosity got the better of me. I immediately preferred the slimmer (front to back) neck profile of the 3000 however the p’up output and tonal range wasn’t a match for the 1024 p’up. So I ordered a 1024 p’up from Yamaha and installed it in the 3000. This is now my most played bass and the 1024 has gone. The 3000 has a lovely resonance and feel of an older bass, and that powerful 1024 p’up seems to compliment it well. My BB needs are well met for now!

It's certainly 3 band, unless I've misunderstood what this means!? It has controls for bass, mid and treble... along with a volume pot and pickup blend. The pre / pots may not be original but I can't tell, I've taken a picture of the guts in case anyone knows, the stacked pots both are MEC but the middle pot is not. Also, no doubt this is an '89. See pic.

You'll be hard pushed to find a nicer example of a Warwick Thumb. Unlike many Thumb basses, I've never had any neck-dive issues with this one, it has a high polish finish which is actually a very dark blue and somewhat translucent, but you'd just assume it was black unless shone under a very bright light. Of all the Warwick's I've owned, this one has the most highly figured wenge fingerboard, I've captured this as best as I can but it looks absolutely superb 'in the flesh'. The condition is pretty good for the age, it has various marks but nothing serious, these are generally difficult to pick out due to the dark finish. You will notice in the pictures that the finish has rippled very slightly over the laminated neck, I understand this is quite typical and in no way effects the integrity of the neck. Weight - 4.4kg It's a fantastic instrument and for me, it has the archetypal Warwick tone and one of the tightest, well-rounded open E's i've heard. No issues with the pickups, pre-amp or truss-rod. Currently set-up with a set of med-light DR Sunbeams. I'm based in Cardiff and would prefer collection but will of course ship in a flight-case (not original). Trial also welcome. See my feedback here on BC. EDIT: I'll consider trades for a nice Jazz bass but would ideally like some cash in my direction.

Traded pedals with Harry. No issues whatsoever and thoroughly professional throughout all aspects of the transaction. Cheers Buddy!

Sold Pete a tuner. Super-speedy payment and a nice guy to deal with. Top BC'er.

The Nate is a great Fender P and I think it really does the mid-range growly-thing very well. For me though, the 1024 had the edge as it just seems to fill more space across the spectrum, especially with regards to the super-tight, well-defined low-end. It's obviously a preference thing, additionally I'm finding that the relatively larger body size of the BB, especially the amount of space between the forearm contour and the P pickup (where I rest my thumb) enables a more comfortable playing position for my wrist, more similar in position to when I play my Jazz bass.

Since getting a BB1024 last year I've become obsessed with it, the sound is just so big and full and I like the ergonomics of the body and the overall feel. So much so, my Nate Mendel P was sold recently and I'm prob gonna sell my other CV P too! It's got me curious about the older BB's - I'd really like to try a BB3000 to see how it compares to my 1024.

I bought an effects board from Elfrasho - good communication, promptly delivered and item as described. Cheers!

I'm a big fan of the Thumb however it took me a while to find one that balances well, happened to be an '89. I also have a Dolphin Pro 1 which has a different tone but balances perfectly and the stretch to the 1st fret is less. If you're in South Wales you could check Bass Direct - not a million miles away and they often have some used Warwicks in stock.

The stock strings are great - D'addarios by the look of them - feel like stainless rounds rather than Nickel but I'm not 100% sure?

The BB1024 arrived, with a lovely gig bag. This is the first BB I have owned and played, my early impressions are very good. It was setup well out of the box, only dropped the string height a little at the saddles and it was setup great for my liking. This really is a lot of bang for the buck - flawless build quality and an all-rounder of a bass, it really nails a whole range of tones, the P-bass tone this achieves is making me question whether my other P bass may be redundant. My fave though is def both P&J together - big fat round tone, and perfectly even across the range of the instrument. The output of the p'ups is also impressive.
