  1. My action is so low that nobody likes playing my basses. Also, I have had some appallingly built basses.
  2. That's a great list. As I discover more I'll post them in the thread so you can update it.
  3. A nice strap makes things more comfy but no strap in the universe can make the bass actually lose weight. If the body is in pain in the back or core the strap cannot make a difference. The damaged body parts are still having to support the same weight. Also, some wide and comfy straps can weigh a couple of pounds, adding to the pressure on injuries thus making the problem worse.
  4. I like a neutral cab and the BF Super Twin is very neutral, or at least the most neutral I've ever used. But as I hardly ever have a gig with a PA and I currently only need 1 sound live I like the amp head to give me the tone I want. But if I wanted to carry more kit I'd be happy to take a Helix and a poweramp, or go direct into the PA if the monitors were good enough.
  5. Bolt on. Simple reason - if the weather goes mental I cannot shim a set neck or a neck through.
  6. I've just weight a usual domed metal knob. 26g and then a plastic with a grub screw knob. 4g So that would be a 44g saving on a 2 knob bass. I've got a 5 string Mezzo with heavy metal knobs on it. That bass is really light already, but as swapping 4 knobs would get rid of about 80g (2 of the knobs are a little smaller) I might as well do that too.
  7. Ceder or Paulownia is much lighter than swamp ash or basswood
  8. Going passive saves between 45-55g for the battery and clip too!
  9. I need them, alas. Sometimes for long quiet sections, and I change the tone depending on the tune.
  10. When did Spike start playing 2nd guitar from back stage during the solos?
  11. I use one of these bags https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00T0OJG5M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 It's a perfect fit and leaves enough room on top of the amp for a couple of cables / sheet music etc.
  12. My favourite by far is the Boss BC-1X. It's so good I no longer own a Cali76 / Empress / Keeley 4 knob / Keeley Pro / Darkglass Super Symmetry etc etc. However, the battery life on all X series pedals isn't particularly good. A 9v is only expected to last 2 hours of continual use. If you have some rechargeable batteries and a show doesn't last more than 1.5 hours (to be safe) then it's great. I have to say though - if you have power for your amp then you have power for a supply for the pedals. If the compressor is always on and you don't use any other pedals then it can sit on top of your amp and does not need to be miles away from the same socket used for the amp.
  13. Something where all the cones were identical. Mixing cones is a nightmare as the right EQ for one will be wrong for the other. It’s a compromise that just isn’t needed. 4x10 + 1x15 is crap. Two 4x10 or two 1x15 can be glorious. Although TBH if I ever do any gigs where my BF Super Twin isn’t enough then the PA will be doing the work.
  14. I have Ti flats on my EHB 5 string at the moment and I really like them , but maybe when they wear out I’ll try the La Bella for this bass too.
  15. Anyone tried the 5 string set? Is the B string any good?
  16. As it seems I now have shoulder issues to go with hernia related issues I am on a mission to put together the lightest bitsa I can. I hadn’t even considered pickup weights as I thought they would all be so close it wouldn’t matter. Turns out I was wrong and some weigh double even for the same type. Then actives are heavier still. A pair of EMG MM style pickups are 400g (just short of a pound)! So if you have pickups lying about and a decent kitchen scale, could you weight them and post the brand, model, and weight please? I realise this is a bit nuts, but as I’ve also discovered swapping 4 heavy knurled knobs for plastic ones can sometimes save 100g ( quarter of a pound) it all makes a difference. I’m taking the Colin Chapman / Lotus approach to this. Nothing is too nuts to get the weight down. Paint will be stripped if it has to be! ta.
  17. Ashdown RM800 into a 1x10 Barefaced One10 Its great. It has a volume control.
  18. https://ashdownmusic.com/products/abm-evo-v-750?utm_content=Facebook_UA&utm_source=facebook&variant=42877683630339 wow! bug money jump though!
  19. I saw Billy mention that in a video a year ago, but nothing since. I have now emailed Dimarzio for a recommendation and they suggested the Ultra Jazz pickup that’s been around for years.
