  1. I got some this afternoon. I don’t like Darth Bezos but same day delivery is handy. Put them on a J. Played along to my practice playlist and they sit in the mix very nicely, with a much fuller low end than the previous rounds. Next big band session is after the jubilee so I’ll give them a proper go then.
  2. The Rock School approach is very different to classical. It's clearly aimed at the skills needed to play with other people rather than the traditional approach of sight reading, scales, harmony etc etc. It's not worse, it's just different and it might not be what you are looking for. Surprisingly Rock School also uses tabs even at G8, but of course all the rhythmic information is in the trad part of the sheet. But then again there's differences between Trinity Rock School and RSL Rock School. Personally, I'd have a chat with any local double bass teachers in your area. You are not looking how to learn how to play bass guitar - you can already do that. But you want someone to teach you the things you don't know - really the academics of music. Sight reading etc. Then you can play any piece of music ever put in front of you and never have to ask if Tab is available.
  3. I've seen various approaches for trade value. One that hasn't been mentioned is using the new price. So trading a used item that was £1000 new, for another used item that was also £1000 new. Obviously some items suffer more depreciation than others but that doesn't mean it's not a bad approach, if anything it's quite an honest approach as new prices are easily verifiable.
  4. I'm thinking about a bit of a bitsa / cheap bass project. The P pickup will be a Relentless which is quite high output. Dimarzio don't do a Relentless J to go with it so I need some ideas for a Jazz pickup or maybe a soapbar that won't be completely overpowered by the P. The bass will be completely passive. Vol / Tone and then either a balance or a 3 way switch depending on what I've got in the Trunk of Parts. Can anyone recommend a good chunky J / soapbar? ta
  5. I think I’ll try some. That vid sounds great.
  6. Thank you again! I’ll have a proper listen on my monitors in a mo.
  7. Do the LTF sound like normal La Bella flats or like Ti flats? ta.
  8. Weird. Is it faulty? My polytune works fine for a 5.
  9. Depends on the body colour of the bass. As long as it is not covered in lacquer I’m not that fussy.
  10. Don't tempt me. I once hollowed out the back of an Epi Les Paul to try and get it lighter. It was getting to the point of being able to bend and it still only knocked a pound off!
  11. Well, I gave in and ordered one. Hopefully be here tomorrow / wednesday.
  12. Also worth remembering that some of the greatest bass tones in history were bass direct into the board with a good compressor like a '76. No cabs, no amps. The Dr Tone Secret Bass lab has a page with EQ settings to be used in place of cab sims and they are excellent.
  13. Ok. A mic'd traditional bass speaker does not need a cab sim or IR.
  14. The 20xl Roland is a great sounding thing. Loads of sounds out of that. I have a silly money Barefaced rig but I’ll never sell my Roland. I wouldn’t swap it for any similar small combo. I’d only add to my kit with a stage ready amp.
  15. Alas I am resigned to never owning one. They are all too heavy for me.
  16. Don’t stack speakers into more speakers. A mic’d speaker doesn’t need a cab sim / IR. Go direct into the interface instead. Then you can record a bare tone and change amps and cabs after.
  17. ease of use and none of the dip and swell volume effect that traditional compressors can suffer from. Its very transparent too. No tone changes.
  18. Nothing. Both the bass and Jaco are extremely dull to me.
  19. I’ve had: Empress Cali76 Darkglass Super Symmetry MXR87 Keeley 4 knob Keeley Compressor Pro Marshall ED1. Now I use the newish Boss BC-1X. It’s brilliant. Very simple to use and just works without any faff.
  20. Shame that KA didn't pick an existing common size for their own ones. Mind you, EMG are behind on that too. Aguilar, Nords, Barts etc all make Bart and EMG sized versions of their pickups and EMG won't make Barts sized versions removing them from consideration if a bass had Bart sized pickups when it was built.
  21. Aguilar have the DCB G4 which is 38x102 (as is the EMG 40 sized casing) Nordstrand will custom make anything you like. What pickups do you have in it at the moment?
