This is what is making wonder about buying one. I'm not sure I can be arsed about hooking it up to a computer for deep editing. I never have a computer near where my amps are set up. The odd time to just download presets might be ok, but other than that... nah.

Earlier ones were A/B. Then they swapped to D. I don't know when it happened but I've seen a few of both. If you find Thomas Eich on social media he usually answers questions about his stuff.

I don't think I've read any comments anywhere from trigger finger sufferers for a fan fret. On a FF the stretches for the low notes are longer so if that is an issue a long or extra long scale FF won't the the right choice but a medium scale might be like the Ibanez EHB1005SMS medium scale. But I think you'd really have to try one. It might be that a traditional medium or short scale is a better choice.

that's a nice looking thing. Don't think I've seen one before.

That's a bit poor. I wonder why. Maybe Rotosound are doing a bit of a loss leader for the USA to try and increase market share. That can never last very long though.

Light, great sounding economy 5 string recommendations please

Sandberg Superlight. They are amazingly light - they aim for 3.6kg on the 5 strings but sometimes they come in at about 3.3kg. There's one in the classifieds at the moment. -
No - horrible things. Over priced at a quid!

Dave bought my Tech 21 Steve Harris preamp pedal. All good! Thank you.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
fretmeister replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
But so what? Why even try to compare guitars with basses? The approach to string design is different. It's possible to have high or low tension strings of a certain gauge. It all depends on the construction. The core of a bass string is far larger than a guitar string. The wrap wires are different too. So needing a higher tension string for lower tuning does not have to mean an increase in gauge as long as the player is willing to use a different construction. As an extreme example - the new Hellborg signature set don't even have a metal core and as a result you can actually tie a knot in them like you would with cotton. There are enough custom string makers out there now to get any mix of hex or round core, large or small wrap wire, double wraps or single wraps etc etc. Ultimately it's just a bit of wood with some strings attached to it. It has unavoidable compromises but as long as the player isn't stuck in a "it must be d'addarip prosteels" mindset then there are options to resolve any tension issues, and more and more makers are making balanced tension sets. Shorter scale lengths are not a problem, nor a compromise. They are just different. -

And yet there are 25.5 scale 8 string guitars with a low F# with no difficulty. -

I've got two 32 scale basses - One is a 5 string in BEADG and the other in C standard. Both fine. Just needs the right strings. -
I miss Terry. Graham Norton has done a good job, but Wogan was perfect.

What has being gay got to do with it?

I love it. I love the fun, the kitch, and there's usually some banging arrangements and stage shows. I'll be cooking a massive spread of mexican food and watching all of it.

Shipping and distribution adds in additional layers that must be paid for. Marshall amps are astonishingly expensive in the USA compared to the UK. American made strings are going to be way cheaper in the US. The Thomastiks are very expensive on that site - not a surprise as they've come from Vienna and gone over there. So no - it's not disgusting. It's just reality of worldwide shipping costs, insurance, local taxes etc. D'addario will still be making the same amount of money from a set sold there or here. But if you buy from a UK dealer then the UK dealer, the UK distributor, and the shipping overhead, import tax and VAT all have to be added to the price.

Serendipity: Thomastik Jazz Roundwounds.

If I can get 7 years out of them then they might end up on some other basses too! -

I could see that - but I often use D'addario Steel 35-95 anyway so my setup seems to be ok. I will take some allen keys on Saturday though, just in case I play a bit harder and get some rattles. -
If the headstock holes are too big then a common fix is to use plumbers tape to wrap the bushing before putting it in. It works very well. The tape is really really thin so it might need a lot of layers, but you can be very accurate to the size needed.

In a bit of a rush I ordered some new strings. Saw the usual packet, ordered etc. Delivery wasn't what I expected though - instead of Ti Flats, I had ordered Ti Rounds. I knew Thomastik made rounds but I didn't know they made "Jazz Rounds" in the same series. My curiosity was stronger than my desire to send them back so I stuck them on my Sandberg. They are very flexible like the flats are. The wrap wire is a very small gauge so finger noise is very low for a round. They also don't feel like other brands of nickels I have tried - I usually don't like nickels at all and stick with steels for rounds. These feel different. I have no idea if it's just because of the smaller wrap wire or if it's a different alloy mix, but I like them. Thomastik claim they are supposed to be the same as the flats but with a bit more cut / top end. I think that's true at the treble end, but the low end is still closer to a round than a flat. Nevertheless they have a very nice balanced tone and are easy to play. As usual, there's only 1 gauge option so that will either suit or not, but I like them and they'll be staying on the bass - and not just because they are as expensive as the flats! Will be interesting to see how long they last compared to the flats. I have a rehearsal on Saturday so I'll see how it goes.

What is the exact problem? Do you have bushings that are too big / too small for the headstock hole, but they fit with the post?

Done.

It’s too heavy for me otherwise I’d have that. -
Reminds me of a gig I did on the back of a flatbed farm trailer that hadn't been braced at all. 10 seconds into the sound check we took the amps off the top of the cabs and put them on the floor instead. It was a nightmare.

Novation Bass Station 2. A good first synth?
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in Other Instruments
Can you recommend something else that is still hardware at the same sort of money (£375 ish)? I don't mind editing on computer, but I don't want anything that would force me to take a computer to a gig if I ever ended up needing it for a gig.
