  1. I compared the TC with a mate's D'addario tiny thing this morning and the TC is so much better. Reacts better, no problem with the lower strings. I might actually get a 2nd one.
  2. I need to go through the trunk of things to see what I can sell off to raise the funds.
  3. When I was looking at these I completely missed that an expression pedal could be used. Now I have bad GAS again!
  4. I get all that. I had racks and racks of gear for many years (and the back pain to prove it) - so anything that gets me some compression and a touch of drive into 1 unit really makes me want that Ferrari!
  5. I've not paid much attention to Berg amps (I've had their cabs in the last) and in my hunt for amps with built in compression and other things I've only just noticed this really. Anyone using one? Ideally with a BF Super Twin? The demos look great, the drive circuit seems to be actually musical and the extra bits like the variable HPF and LPF are a great idea. I know they don't sell in the same volumes as other brands but I can't see any reports of failures. Anyone had any downsides? ta
  6. Don't be so hard on yourself! We all knew sod all when we started. Enjoy the journey!
  7. What type of background noise? Hiss? Low rumble? Picking up the local taxi firm? Something else?
  8. Either Dunlop Steel rounds or Dunlop Flats depending on what I'm doing.
  9. I'd love a stingray. I had a 5 but sold it as it was too heavy. I'd like a 4 string - ideally in natural with rosewood board like 'Nard Edwards. It will never happen, but I'd love a Vic Wooten signature Fodera - the aged version with the quilt top. I think I would struggle dropping £20,000 on a bass even if I did win the Euromillions jackpot and could afford to insure it and risk it by gigging it. But there's something about it I love. I've never even played one, it just calls to me.
  10. Thomann are big enough - no problems with them. But never overestimate the talent of the UK couriers at this end!
  11. We have a big thread on it already
  12. I love MB amps but even if you swapped to one with better EQ like the Marcus Miller versions you won't get any grit from it. It's just not designed for that - not even if you punish the preamp with EMGS 1mm from the strings and an onboard booster. That being said, the little combo is a great thing to carry around and is great for EUB as well, so a pedal of your choice is the best bet. Something with a clean blend is always a good start so you can add in just what you want.
  13. If the retailer is big enough to deal with all the paperwork then it's been a few days. If not and I had to deal with the Vat and clearing myself - 6 weeks for the last thing.
  14. Can't find any stock of the Unitune anywhere. Most saying 3 months or more for a pre-order. Bah.
  15. The cab with 10s I like the best was Barefaced The cab with 15s I like the best was Hartke The cab with 12s I like the best was Marshall. Funnily enough I was trying to make them all sound like me.
  16. Strings Direct will order anything from anyone. Email them.
  17. Yup. I use that cab at home too irrespective of the amp. Although I must admit if I then plug in the Super Twin instead the volume jump can be a bit of a surprise. Lower impedance and loads more cone area etc. Ah well - keeps me awake!
  18. Which ones work best on bass? The TC Polyclip? The Snark? Anything? You don't have to tell me they look crap, I am well past the age of looking cool!
  19. Yes. A Marleaux Consat Custom 5. Unfortunately then I had loads of surgery and couldn't deal with the weight anymore. It was an entirely reasonable 9lb (maybe 9.1lb) for a 5 but I just couldn't do it anymore, and I was not in a position to keep it just for playing sitting down. Needed the funds to get something I could play all the time. It just had the most amazing sound and was very easy to play. Never played anything that came close no matter what the price. I really hope it is out there gigging somewhere.
  20. The Aluminium Hipshot is 99g and those are 250g 250g is just over half a pound so the difference between them is 1/3 lb Small numbers alone, but it would push my P up to 8lb rather than the 7 3/4 it is now. It's already the heaviest bass I play by far
  21. I did think about that but I was concerned that it would cause weakness and make it bend. Is that not an issue?
