  1. I've picked up a lovely shortscale P. The existing pickup has very high poles and as I like to use the pickup top as a ramp that doesn't really work. In most basses I stick EMGs in but I'd like to keep this bass passive. Can anyone recommend a good covered P bass pickup, or at least one with visible poles that are flush with the plastic? Not looking to spend loads, the bass was under £150 so I don't want to put £150 pickup in it! Any ideas?
  2. The old school nature of the pickups can be 'improved' (if that's your taste) by moving the plugs on the preamp. It takes about 10 mins and is reversible. No money needed.
  3. I really liked them both. I prefered the P bass as a di, but the ray with an amp sim. I think the Ray needs that extra fat that a good amp gives it. They can be a bit thin sounding without, but then with a good amp - 'Nard Edwards is right there (probably my favourite stingray sound). I think the Ray just edges it for me, but it's really tight.
  4. Yes. The Traveller ones are the cheaper ones. The Standard are the better ones. And then there's some unique things like the "Classic" and "New York" stuff.
  5. As it is painfully clear that nobody in this thread has actually read the judgment here it is https://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Ch/2022/827.html 1: Sheeran sued first for a declaration that there was no copyright theft, basically to stop the allegations. 2: Chokri then counter claimed Both issues were dealt with at the same hearing. So they both got their day in court and Sheeran needed his day in court too. The massive delays and underfunding in the criminal justice system were not affected at all by the time taken in this civil matter.
  6. It was actually Sheeran that sued for declaratory relief first.
  7. No. Because I want one too!
  8. Sandberg Superlight TT4 (jazz), 6.5lb or sometimes lower!
  9. It's a 2 band but 1 knob preamp (stacked). The volume control comes with the pickups. And the balance is a separate ABCX control.
  10. Most of the time at home I use my Helix rack which is plugged into my PC as the interface / soundcard and a pair of Yamaha HS7 monitors. Before I got the helix I was using a Focusrite Scarlett (whatever the cheapest one was) with the HS7 pair, and a free plugin on the PC. It was perfectly fine and it was great playing along to youtube etc. If I'm on the move then I have a Audient ID4ii interface that plugs into my ipad with the free version of Amplitube for the sounds. And I've still got the Roland Bass Cube I bought probably 20 years ago now. That's in the bedroom so I can play when I'm banished upstairs to the 2nd telly when the wife & daughters are watching some talent show nonsense. If you've already got the Focusrite then a good pair of monitors will be a great start. Loads of free plugins about to get going. There are youtube vids about free plugins. AxeFX is not a plugin - it's a rack or floor unit that can be controlled by an app on screen that looks like a plugin. There is a PC version of the helix software called "Helix Native" but it's over £300 on it's own.
  11. @greenmanhumming I've re-done the photos. Stupid facebook changing file locations!
  12. Sandberg TT4 superlight. It's just ace. I'd love another one for flatwounds one day.
  13. Mammoth WVH. thought I'd finally get round to seeing if Wolfgang can write a tune. Turns out he can. It's not worldbreaking or anything, but it's a solid album and I like it.
  14. When I play a 5 strings I often drop the B string to A. Simple reason - I often have to play piano parts and the lowest note on a concert grand is that A so I can play the part as intended. For guitar use - I'm usually in D-D or C-C because over the years my voice has got deeper and as the songs I wrote already used the lowest notes I had nowhere else to go for transposing the tune downwards. Lowering the tuning of the guitar also means I don't have to relearn the songs for different fingerings which I would have to do if I got a 7 string and kept it in concert standard tuning. That would be a massive faff especially with any part that used open strings a lot.
  15. I’ve got PLI with my equity membership.
  16. Almost all of them are custom made so you can get them for any position.
  17. That is a real bargain! I have a 2012 Special and it's lovely. The main differences for me for playing comfort is that the neck is a little thinner front to back and the body is slightly thinner too. So it has a lower weight. Very nice basses. I swapped the tuners for Hipshot Ultralights to get the weight even lower and now it weights 7 3/4 lb.
  18. I vote for: 1:Sandberg Superlight TT5 or TM5. But they will also make the V (precision) series in superlight as a custom order if you want. 2: Ibanez EHB. Both lovely instruments. IIRC Bass Direct have a TM5 in stock at the moment.
  19. 1
  20. I have sometimes matched them in the past but then found that some cabs aren't actually the best choice with their own brand head and vice versa.
  21. Sandberg California II VT4 Lovely thing.
  22. I remember when these came out. Beautiful looking basses. I watched Ed's demo about a hundred times I reckon! GLWTS
  23. Amazing! I'll probably get them if they do the entire line!
  24. I have 3 boards. The smallest is a nano. Tuner, filter, octave, compressor. The filter might get swapped with an overdrive if I need it. The largest is a lot bigger (another pedaltrain but I can't remember the model). It has a wireless on it, a big Morley wah, Boss LS-2 for signal routing. Drives, fuzzes, delays, filters, EQ, synths etc etc. That board is for fun but it would also cover everything from a U2 covers band through to a Muse tribute. But sometimes I'll just take a compressor pedal on it's own and a headstock tuner. Depends what I'm doing really. I could easily replace the Nano board with a Helix Stomp. I may well do that one day.
