  1. No, just my wishful thinking. But if lots of us do it (and mention silent cooling of course) maybe it would happen.
  2. I've spoken to Dave a couple of times and he's been amazing. On one occasion it was because he just sent me an email by mistake and I called him to let him know and we ended up chatting for an hour! I may have mentioned that when the ABM 5 comes out with silent fans I'll have one straight away [/stuck record]
  3. What amps and / models are actually built in the UK now? Ashdown of course for the pro level stuff, but what about Orange? Are there any others anymore?
  4. I don't see MB washing their hands of their customers. They have a warranty and they have a repair network in place. You've already answered why they don't do the same as Behringer / Wharfedale. Those 2 examples are enormous companies with hundreds of times the resources. They will be absorbing some of the cost of those cheap parts and not passing them onto the end user. If you complained about Apple being a closed shop for repairs then I'd agree - they have enough money to do anything. But a small amp company that also makes a few basses and strings... not a chance unless they put the prices up first.
  5. I've had MB amps for years and aside from a "dead on delivery" F1 head many years ago they've all been rock solid. I'm also wondering if we are asking too much regarding the repair costs. Modern great sounding amps are very affordable but part of that affordability is due to the board configuration. Unfortunately loads of stuff made these days is uneconomic to repair or effectively impossible to repair because of the construction method and instead replacement of other still working bits is needed because they are all on the same board. While I'm very pleased that the EU is pushing the "Right to Repair" idea for some products it's not as simple as for others. Washing machines - lovely! Stop riveting stuff in and use screws for easy swaps etc. But for an amp? Or a GPU, or a control board in a washing machine? I'm sure MB could make a product that is easier to repair, perhaps with a modular board system to allow smaller parts of it to be replaced rather than all of it. But that will lead to a higher purchase price and it won't do anything about the labour costs. Seems to be the way of the world.
  6. Looks interesting. Another different EQ to the LM and the MM series. Although the text says the Highs are 3.8Khz but the photo shows 6Khz. The thing that really interests me is the Limiter. The new LM4 mentions a new bi-band limiter but it's on all the time without any controls. This has a control that is not well described. It could just be affecting the threshold but it might also be affecting multiple parameters with 1 knob. I'd like to know if it's 'just' a limiter or whether there is some other compression going on as well. Hopefully there will some demos of it. I seem to be looking for amps with built in compressors. The reasonably new Vintage head also has the limiter.
  7. I have L6 G70 and G75 and they are great but discontinued. If I was replacing them I'd go with the Shure. It seems to have a very good reputation. That being said - the block on the jack thing can be easily sorted by using a small cable and putting the block on the strap. Have to do that with some jack sockets on guitars anyway.
  8. I’ve got more bass out of a few different makes of 12 than I ever got from the 15s I’ve had.
  9. Some models of cars and fridges have had production suspended because of the silicon shortage. Amps are just the tiniest pimple on the top of the iceberg. Yesterday Sony announced they are looking to build their own chip factory so they are less dependent on others. That's going to take a year or 2 to build and test, but unless Japan has massive amounts of silicon I don't know about they'll still have to import that or start mining and extracting it themselves. I have no idea if Silicon sand can just be taken from the local seabed or not or even if seabed sand provides a big enough yield, or whether the common approach of surface mining is the only sensible approach. China currently produces 2/3 of all the world's silicon from surface mining. That really needs to be spread out a bit! If I've understood it properly, the process of extracting silicon from sand / quartz etc needs massive amounts of water so unfortunately just building an extraction plant in the middle of a desert doesn't seem to be an option.
  10. Wish I had the money. I've never had a GK but always like the recorded sounds from them. But I just ordered a new cab and marital harmony must be maintained!
  11. That listing says 'brand new, unopened, undamaged' so not B stock.
  12. Often at the end of the chain so it effectively replaces the front end of the amp.
  13. Doubt it - the law is the law. Consumer Contract Regs (that replaced the Distance Selling Regs) allow for 14 days from receipt. Unless it's a custom made item it applies to all businesses.
  14. This. Sometimes I'm playing with just a clarinet. Sometimes I'm playing with 25 brass and wind players and a drummer. At the same show. I'm not taking 2 amps to a gig just to swap them between tunes. And to be frank, the ONLY noise that any modern amp makes should be the sound of the bass. Any other noise, particularly avoidable noise, is a poor design choice.
  15. The C4 will load the Spectrum presets too.
  16. In an ideal world I'd be putting EMGs in it. Unfortunately EMG only make their own dimension soapbars and don't do an easy drop in version for Barts like just about everyone else does these days. I'm a massive fan of their J and JX pickups but the dimensions are wrong in all directions. Would need a lot of routing and a scratchplate to make it look tidy. Shame really. Sometimes I do wonder why companies make it difficult to buy their stuff. Nordy, SD, Aguilar etc all give the option to have an EMG or a Bart sized soapbar.
  17. No. Barts on the medium / short scale fan fret. Alas!
  18. Me neither. My multiple hernia repairs would pop like a puffer fish in a microwave! 110 lb iirc. Easy enough on the wheels, right up until the point steps get in the way. Of lifting it in or out of the car...
  19. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274476367261?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3Dffc40afdeb9b49ccb2912609fe5a1ae6%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D274476367261%26itm%3D274476367261%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26brand%3DGallien-Krueger&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A698d63ea-2a8a-11ec-8d74-06cdf3adecfd|parentrq%3A6f370a3917c0aaf639377eecfff88e46|iid%3A1 Being sold by the official importers at £489 That's a good ton cheaper than most places and it has the full warranty. Somebody buy it before I get in trouble with the wife!
  20. I decided to go with the regular One10. A simple process in the end, my favourite cab of all time was the Marshall VBC412 - no tweeter. After that I had, roughly in this order Hartke / Mark Bass / back to hartke / Berg HD / Berg CN and every time I turned the tweeter off. The only downside to Alex's continued success is that lead times are now quoted at 4 to 10 weeks. I'll just have to use my Super Twin in the meantime!
  21. Now I've raised the money I can't decide between the One10 and the One10T! Decisions decisions! On one hand I've had One10 before and liked it. On the other the tweeter can be turned off and would make it a little more versatile for when I do have a few too many beers and start slapping. On the third hand, nobody needs to hear me slapping. Mmmm....
  22. Can anyone recommend a good pdf to XML converter so I can scan sheet music and then convert into XML so I can edit it in Staffpad? I only have a few sheets to do so a free option would be very good. ta
  23. I think I’ll do the pickup upgrade first and then see how the existing preamp does with them.
