If the retailer is big enough to deal with all the paperwork then it's been a few days. If not and I had to deal with the Vat and clearing myself - 6 weeks for the last thing.

You star! Thank you. Ordered!

Can't find any stock of the Unitune anywhere. Most saying 3 months or more for a pre-order. Bah.

Favourite speaker size 10, 12 or 15 or something else?
fretmeister replied to Gray C's topic in Amps and Cabs
The cab with 10s I like the best was Barefaced The cab with 15s I like the best was Hartke The cab with 12s I like the best was Marshall. Funnily enough I was trying to make them all sound like me. -

Strings Direct will order anything from anyone. Email them. -
Which ones work best on bass? The TC Polyclip? The Snark? Anything? You don't have to tell me they look crap, I am well past the age of looking cool!

Yes. A Marleaux Consat Custom 5. Unfortunately then I had loads of surgery and couldn't deal with the weight anymore. It was an entirely reasonable 9lb (maybe 9.1lb) for a 5 but I just couldn't do it anymore, and I was not in a position to keep it just for playing sitting down. Needed the funds to get something I could play all the time. It just had the most amazing sound and was very easy to play. Never played anything that came close no matter what the price. I really hope it is out there gigging somewhere.

Replacement bridge for a Fender Americal Special P bass
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in Repairs and Technical
The Aluminium Hipshot is 99g and those are 250g 250g is just over half a pound so the difference between them is 1/3 lb Small numbers alone, but it would push my P up to 8lb rather than the 7 3/4 it is now. It's already the heaviest bass I play by far -
Replacement bridge for a Fender Americal Special P bass
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in Repairs and Technical
I did think about that but I was concerned that it would cause weakness and make it bend. Is that not an issue? -
I'm specifically looking for a slot load replacement bridge for my American Special P bass. I am not looking for a high mass bridge or anything like that as I'm perfectly happy with a BBOT type bridge, but I do change strings quite a lot depending on what I'm playing / recording etc and when I'm putting used strings back on, a slot loading bridge is far less faff as I don't have to unwind the coil of string that was round the tuning head just to get it through the hole. I think the Hipshot B style will fit on the Fender Special without any difficulties - but are there any other options? As close to a BBOT in terms of weight as possible would be good. ta

That looks quite interesting. I suspect it will be one of those fx that sound a bit farty when played alone, but then sounds perfect in a mix.

The blue is lovely, but I vote red because that way you avoid the soul crushing shame of the tort.

5 String Humbucker Recommendations

Can you post a picture? -
I must admit the various reports of the ABM compressor doing that is probably got take it off my list.

I swap between slap, fingers and plectrum through a show so I need it. The differences in dynamics for those 3 styles is immense. And I like what it does to the tone of my basses.

Anyone tried the new Mark Bass Vintage 1000 or AG1000 yet? They have adjustable Limiters and I can’t find details of the settings - it might be as useful.

Barefaced cab owners, what bass amp head do you use to power it.
fretmeister replied to Gray C's topic in Amps & Cabs
At the moment I'm using a Tech21 VTbass 500. In the past I have also used the Darkglass MT900, Mark Bass Marcus Goldline, Demeter 800W thingy. I have the Super Twin and One10 cabs and use them for different things, and actually for different cars depending on boot space! -
What pedalboard is it? Some are very low and that limits the supplies that can fit underneath. Like the Pedaltrain Nano - the Truetone C6 will fit under it, but not a lot of other things will.

Send Dave Green an email. He'll tell you.

Or just find someone with the right kink.

Cool. I'll have a go on some of the configurators over the weekend. Most of the established brands have good ones - of course the fees includes a build fee so that can be ignored. Although sometimes a prebuilt can actually work out cheaper if they have economies of scale. I know you are not interest in graphics performance, but just as an example - it is cheaper to buy a really really crap entire PC and spec it with a high end GPU like the RTX3090 and then throw away everything apart from the RTX than it is to just buy the GPU off the shelf on it's own! It's madness caused by supply shortages and that non-scalped units go directly to builders and not to the shelves in the local parts shop. I know a few people who've bought entire PC's that are actually incapable of even turning on while the RTX3090 is installed! Not enough power to even get the lights on. But it saved them nearly £1500 even after binning or ebaying the crappy stuff. AMD and nVidea have no downside and they are raking in the money due to low supplies. Now that Intel are coming into the GPU market and have 4 times the combined revenue of AMD and nVidea it should shake up the market and bring the prices back down. Intel can actually afford to launch their GPUs at a loss to gain market share and cause a price war. Fingers crossed!

I remember when Danny Filth was on the TV answering questions about Cradle of Filth's (in)famous "Jesus is a C***" t-shirt When pressed to give a reason it was "Because we sold 100,000 of them" - and it was after that they started to get festival bookings too. So as a bit of advertising it was genius. Some art is specifically created to appeal to a demographic that will buy it. Some is created just because of the love of the artist. It's almost impossible to decide which is which if the artist won't say. I have slagged off Nickelback in the past, but then saw a great interview with Devin Townsend where he explained meeting Chad wotsit and that despite the saccharine pop rock reputation, Chad was as obsessed with his music as DT was about his. No cynical marketing / writing approach at all, no aim for chart success. Just writing what he loved like we all do. I'm far more sad at most of the top 40. Formulaic, no risk, all auto-tuned, brickwall mastered, identikit crap that with very few exceptions won't even make it onto a "Now that's what I call music" compilation. That really is a factory, and it's not the artists making the money.

That was the first song I heard that really spoke to me from a 'regular friday night' point of view. I miss university.
