  1. For one room I played in a lot I actually put my cabs in a corner pointing out at the 45 degree angle. The spread was great that way and really everyone in the room, band and audience and me were in front of the cabs and could hear everything. It worked really well - first time I did it I was playing an active jazz so I could be far from the amp and still control my sound. Then later I got a longer speaker cable and kept the amp head near me.
  2. Just need someone else to test them before I take the plunge!!
  3. 600W, built in compression, and a tuner! If the fan is quiet I might have one!
  4. This is very interesting. Their Vintage G212 guitar cab is superb - and it's cheaper than just buying a pair of Celestion V30 cones alone!
  5. Is this just curiosity or are you planning to call in an air strike to get rid of Scott's spam?
  6. PHOTOS WILL BE ADDED IN ABOUT AN HOUR - when my stupid phone has finished it's update! I have a pair of Barefaced One10 cabs - metal grill. I would like to trade them both for a single Barefaced Big Baby 2 (Current generation). A pair of One10 cabs would cost £838 (£419 each) and the BB2 is £779. So although my 2 cabs are a bit more expensive at new price I'm just looking for a straight a swap. My cabs are in good condition but do have the expected tolex creep on the backs. Detailed photos are coming. I have never tried to fix the tolex because after decades of playing shoddy Marshalls it just doesn't bother me. The cabs have been played with my Big Band and have been amazing. No hairy rock gigs at all! Would have to be a meet up in a socially distanced way. I'm in Northants. If necessary the cabs cab be tested using a wireless so there's no need for close contact. I'm not interested in anything other than a BB2. ta SOLD
  7. Can you measure the string length WITHOUT the ball end please... 1: To the end of the speaking length 2: then also the total to the far end of the string? I think they just might fit on my 32 scale Ibby. The DR website says they are 33 3/4 inches but doesn't say whether that is including or not including the ball end, and also doesn't show the total length of the string from ball end to the very end. My Ibby is exactly 33 3/4 from back of the bridge (so not including the ball end) to the far end of the nut. So if the string length is excluding the ball end and they are long enough to go round the tuning heads they should fit! ta
  8. For a while my band leader was a pianist. She had no idea what the range of the bass was. I'd often get parts that fell off the ends!
  9. I'll have to keep an eye out for a used one. Need to sell my stingray first otherwise the wife will kill me!
  10. I'm currently in a Big Band (if we ever get back together again). My rig varies a bit depending on how I feel but it's often a Precision bass into a small head and a pair of Barefaced One10 cabs. I find the sort of secret is to cut the bass quite a lot to remove boom and have some gentle compression going on. I reduce the bass at about 65hz and 180Hz but sometimes boost a little at the 500hz sort of range. Then I adjust the Tone control on the bass quite a lot depending on the tune. If we're playing Van Morrison's "Moondance" then I knock the tone back loads and play gently and get a nice fat sound with hardly any highs. If it's "Uptown Funk" then the tone is all the way up again and I play more aggressively. The higher aggression and the increase in treble changes the tone quite a lot but the compression keeps it all at similar volumes. It's just that the EQ curve is very different and cuts through in a different way. On Moondance I want to sit under it. On Uptown I want to hammer through the middle. And I pick a mid point for something like "Zoot Suit Riot" - But the volume is about the same. The biggest challenge seems to be getting out of the way of the trombones. Noisy sods! That's why I cut the bass quite a lot and boost the mids a little. I like a little bit of grit in my tone too - adds to the harmonic thickness but also isn't obvious in the mix. It's not a great sound when played alone, but it sits with the rest very well. As for hearing my amp - to be honest I listen to the drums more than my own amp and if it sounds right at sound check then I'm ok with it not being perfect for me on stage. Sometimes I can't hear myself at all and I just treat it like I was playing unplugged along to a CD.
  11. I really like the Sir Duke version. I've never heard it with a plectrum before. I've been playing a big band arrangement of it for so long I can't remember how to play the original!
  12. Idea - is it worth having a pinned post with a sort of directory of all members youtube channels? With a lack of gigs there seem to be more of them now and it would be great to find them in 1 place. @ped What do you think?
  13. 'Nard swapped to rounds. Nile has confirmed it, many times.
  14. Nice! That's the best price I've seen so far! I'm thinking about the green for my second one.
  15. For a little while there were individual videos for all the tracks but the Metallica management got upset at those so they took them down and just did this complete album vid. There are still some by the same people - but with even higher bass levels that are great for learning but too high for listening. Fortunately I was able to grab the individual tracks before they were taken down!
  16. Selling my Chunk Systems Brown Dog gated fuzz. It's a great pedal but as my tastes are moving more and more towards RnB, motown, funk, and even disco I just don't need it anymore. There's a few scratches but nothing serious. Still has the rubber feet on the bottom. No velcro this time. Looking for £150 including tracked delivery in the UK. Ed's review / demo (along with an an envelope filter) is here:
  17. I've got a 6.5lb, a 7.5lb and a 7.75lb And then two 9lb that will be going sooner or later. So I don't really need another bass, but you know!
  18. Anyone apart from Skinnyman got one of these now? I keep finding myself using the GK800 model on my Helix so I'm thinking more about a GK amp.
  19. I really fancy one of the active almost stingray ones. I'll never find one under 8lb though
  20. The model in the Helix sounds very good. I've never played a real one, but when comparing recordings it seems close enough.
