Wanting a change for no readily apparent reason?

As Sterling Ball says it's the bass - it's the bass.

The million dollars bit is on film in “Some kind of monster” It was an advance on future earnings rather than a gift. -

I suspect the music would have been more interesting and yet less commercially successful. I can’t see Burton fitting on The Black Album. -

Best one I’ve found. -
I really like Dunlop flats too. Great strings!

Still too much faff with tube warm up times and moving them every 40 mins.
-
I have owned most of those. Also, that’s not the point of my post as I’ve explained.

The Phil Jones amps don’t have fans. Ive often wondered about picking up a D400 purely as a power amp for my helix. Just an idea... could an amp be built with a fan defeat switch where that defeat limits the max volume. Like a safety feature making it sure it cannot o too loud / hot. So don’t let it overheat and shut down, but actually limit the power of the amp when the fan is off - just won’t get any louder no matter how the controls are set if the fan is defeated?

Welcome to the club! I'm definitely getting a 2nd one so I can have 1 with flats and the other with rounds. -
More mids. If the pedal doesn't have a blend then the Boss LS-2 can be a life saver. Put the drive into one of the loops on the LS-2 and leave the other one unconnected. Then you can blend clean with it. Overdrive sounds are naturally compressed and the clean sound may decay at a faster rate than the drive. Often a good idea to compress the clean just enough so the decay on a note is about the same.

Lots of flats have big low ends that cancel out the mid EQ curve. TI Flats don't. They don't sound like any other string to me. I love them on a precision.
-
TI Flats I reckon. Highs are gentle, lows are controlled and not boomy. Mids are obvious.

Custom build buyers remorse - what did you get wrong?

It was a Status Streamline. I love status basses. But I only kept that for a year - the newer (at the time) square ish neck shape was horrible. Gave me hand cramps and just wasn't comfy. I loved the sound, the low weight, the bendwell / 32inch scale, the balance, but the neck shape killed it for me. Sold it at a massive loss (it had LEDS). I'd love one with a jazz neck profile or even a sort of mid point between J and P. But they don't offer that. Alas. It would be on my next major birthday present list if it was. -
I really must try one at some point.

It's still a faff. IIRC it's power supply only. So that's the pedal, power supply, couple of patch cables. One of the reasons I'm doing the list is because I volunteer at a music trust and when (if) we get back to it then I have to move rooms every 40 minutes. So I have to break it all down and set it up again. Every 40 minutes. I have a new cab on wheels and a head stock tuner. If I can get an amp with compression in it then there's only a power cable and guitar cable to worry about. The head can stay on the cab while I wheel it about. It's all about speed of moving rooms.

Not that I have anything to carry anywhere at the moment, but maybe for the future.. I'm trying to put together a list of amps that have built in compression to limit the stuff I need to carry. So far... ( I realise some are heavy, but if I'm doing a list I might as well do it properly) AER Amp One / Two / Three Ampeg PF500 Ampeg PF800 Ampeg SVT-4 Pro Ampeg SVT-7 Pro Ashdown ABM series Ashdown Rootmaster Ashdown Shavo 22 Bergantino Forte HP Bergantino B-Amp Bugera Veyron Darkglass MT900 V2 Darkglass Alpha Omega 900 EBS Reidmar series EBS HD series Eden WTP900 Eich T-1000 Hartke TX8500 Markbass Evo 1 Marshall MB range Mesa M Pulse 360 Orange 4 stroke Orange Little Bass Thing PJB Briefcase SWR Headlight TC BQ series TC BH series (using a Tone Print slot) TC RH Series TC Blacksmith Tech21 dUg Ultrabass 1000 Trace Elliot SMX series Warwick LWA 500 Warwick LWA 1000 That's all I've found so far - what else is there?

Thank you. I'll have a look. Just need one big enough to read properly! I use reading glasses, but when I wear them the band leader / conductor is too far away and is a blurry mess!

This really made me laugh. I love the Images and Words album, but quite a lot of the rest leaves me cold.

I must investigate this. I am getting more fed up by the minute with my dog eared book. Never in the right order! Which tablet do you use? Presumably cheaper than apple?

Bargain! I've still got the Dunlop flats on it and I'm liking them very much. I've also got some Newtone nickels on the way to try. With the flats.... (Yes it's not the original arrangement!!). It's a little quiet as I have no idea what I'm doing with video. It was a longer clip but the postman rang the bell so I had to cut it.
