I've been wondering about these too. I used to have the older EQ-20 which I think was their first EQ with presets. It looks a far better choice for bass than the Source Audio ones - some fiddly ALT switches on those. Maybe after payday!

With no gigs / rehearsals in the near future I did a couple of play along vids for the very first time just using my iPhone. The video was ok, but the sound, while actually better than I expected, wasn't very good. the phone also picked up some physical bass and finger noise that I'd like to avoid. What's a better way of doing it? I'm not fussed about studio quality recordings or anything and I definitely do not want to have to sit in front of a video editor trying to sync audio and video. This is supposed to be fun, not work. From my ill informed position it seems I could get a better mic for the room and plug that into my iphone or my laptop. That seems easy enough. The mic could be placed away from the camera that way to avoid picking up finger noise. But is there something of a halfway house? Webcam with a plugin (I have a few) so the backing and my bass can be adjusted for levels after recording? No EQ, no sync-ing etc, just a level balance? Any ideas? ta

ah well. It's not like the price will be remotely affordable anyway!

I kind of like it. It's unusual. I do like the control system. I have 3 active basses and I tend to only tweak them to fix room problems rather than being the core of the sound. I like 44.5mm nut width on 5 strings. But I reckon the bridge looks really tight. The total string width at the last fret is 71.4mm - same as the regular 5 string bongo that has 17.5mm spacing at the bridge. So it has to be quite a bit tighter than that. Maybe as tight as 15mm to 16mm (extrapolating from 71.4mm and the 17.5mm bridge spacing on the regular 5 string) I've had 16.5mm at the bridge before and that was too tight for me.

What is the bridge string spacing? I can't see that mentioned.

You really need to try them If weight is an issue for you then do be aware that the "lightweight" badge on the Darkglass cabs is rather disappointing - a lot heavier than their rivals. Some of them are still heavier than the old Marshall VBC412 cabs I used to use 20 years ago. I have 12 inch and 10 inch based cabs from Barefaced and they are VERY different in tone. I like them both and I'm still in the honeymoon period for the 12 (Super Twin) My thoughts though, after playing alone and with backing tracks / CDs etc is that when playing alone without any other noise at all I probably (it's very marginal) prefer the 10 inch cabs. But when other stuff is going on I definitely prefer the 12. My Super Twin is very new though and it hasn't loosened up yet so my views may well change. In the past I owned a pair of Mark Bass 1x12 cabs and they had a very warm sound that when paired with a MB head as well didn't cut enough for me. I sold them went with Berg HD112, then to Berg CN112 (didn't like them but a lot lighter than the HD112) then Barefaced One10 (pair - kept them) and the BF Super Twin. Before the Mark Bass 1x12 I was using a pair of the massive Marshall VBC412. The Mark Bass cabs were the least impressive of all of those. But I don't know what music you play - they might be perfect for your needs - and also the newer model 2x12 might be quite different to the older ones. I don't know.

Source Audio UltraWave (One Series Multiwave distortion)

I had the original one. It had an artificial quality to the sound that I didn’t get on with. But their new pedals have really been excellent so I’m hoping it will be good, and maybe stop every bass drive trying to be Darkglass. -
Just bought it. I’ll give it a try.

I’ve never listened to it!

Can't slap on a P? Freddie Washington is judging you right now!

Fender don’t give weight info as they vary so much.

Sandberg Superlight. 6.5 lb jazz. Wonderful. Things.

Same tune, but this time with a Precision. No setting changes at all. Loving that the different tones of the basses are coming through so much. https://youtu.be/FA176OaMRQU

Thank you kind sir. Ive recorded a few on my Sandberg and P as well. I’ll give them a listen and then post if they are not too bad.

I've actually got one of them. It's great fun but a bit gutless at 8ohm. Amazing for it's size into 4ohms though.

What's your fantasy Lotto jackpot bass gear shopping list?

By the way chaps and chapesses... Euromillions roll over tonight is £76 million. Might as well get a ticket! -
Mine was early!

@Cuzzie Be gentle. My first upload! iPhone only alas - and I think the bass might be a bit too quiet - and some finger clank is getting picked up. I'll need to have another go later. But in the meantime... I had to edit it at 2 mins because the postman rang the doorbell! Git!

Didn't ask. But as he needs his Dad to tune it at the moment I'm guessing home use.

Some basses have a different string splay. I had a go on a custom 5 string once where the bridge had 20mm spacing but the nut was 44.5mm like a stingray. So the strings got closer to each other a lot sooner than that bridge spacing suggests.
-
What will your string spacing be at the point where you mount the pickup? It will be narrower than at the bridge.

The offspring of a friend wants to learn bass. Already got a bass and has got hold of a cab. No idea what the cab is other than it being 8 ohm. Needs a head. I am really out of the loop for beginner kit. What is good? Cheap and cheerful, with a Line in to connect an iPod or similar and headphone option would be good too. I saw the sub £200 TC Electronic Thrust and BH models - anyone actually used them? Anything better for the money? ta

Definitely not. I have some nice headphones and even when using my Helix they sound completely different to each other. My Grado's sound great. My AKG K550 sound like derrière with the same bass settings.
