I run HPF last. I don’t see the point in putting it before a compressor that will try and boost the stuff that I’m trying to cut.

It's still cooler than the air in the amp. It's all relative. Even on a really hot day when my PC is pulling in room air at 26C - that is still way cooler than my Graphics Card that can hit 80C. As long as the delta (difference between the unit and the air) exists there will be heat transfer / balancing. Cold air would be better, but any cooling is better than none.

I've not tried any of the Fender pedals. I might have a look now.

I might do the first 3 rehearsals with a different amp and see what happens. Same bass / compressor etc so just the amp is changed. I'll see if I can get permission to stick a room mic up (have to ask as kids are involved) and get some recorded.

How would we all feel if the guitarist’s guitar failed and we couldn’t play the gig? Same as they would feel if we let them down in a way that was easily avoidable

“Thickening “ can have the opposite effect sometimes- as drive increases so does compression. Take it too far and it sounds much smaller.

Is anyone having trouble with the BD website? My Malwarebytes keeps saying there is a Trojan risk and Chrome is also reporting an invalid response.

That's False Equivalency. Taking a spare bass is not the same as needing another van full of kit. PA failure falls into the same bracket as a complete power failure - nothing you can do about it. But you can do something about a bass failing - use a spare.

I always take 2. I don’t think it’s a professional approach to not have spares at a gig.

Embrace the space. Improve the composition- bassist needs to listen to more Jack Bruce and less Adam Clayton. Build the sound and arrangement from the ground up so bass drums and vocals could carry the tune alone then the guitar is always an embellishment. Guitar player to be more aware of chordal structure and not just go off in a pentatonic widdle fest. Interact with the bass line, use double stops, and rests to give even more space to give contrasts of loud and quiet with the solo. Rests / silence are some of the most powerful composition tools. Not every thing has to be a wall of noise. SRV / Hendrix / Kings X etc etc all sound great with sparse arrangements.
