  1. This thread makes me sad. I had the HA3500 for years and it never let me down. It was the heart of my original Rig of Doom handling all the mids + highs + FX. I didn't particularly like the LH500 I had for a while, but I really liked the Hydrive 4x10. Is their reputation in the USA in the toilet as well? Or are they still liked over there?
  2. Not a surprise though. And it looks like the customer is responsible for sanitising the space? What does it say after that?
  3. I've had both but not at the same time. I'm not convinced that's true. I think the cab would make far more difference to the top end
  4. 25 trumpets and trombones etc are loud.
  5. I gigged my single One10 loads. Against a loud drummer, and 25 horns and reeds. And with a 5 string. It's fine. And loud enough.
  6. I find the Marcus Miller versions to have a more sensible EQ.
  7. The VS4 passive - single P pickup, the proper way round, is considered a special order. Probably because they sell more of the others. The VT4 can be active or passive - the passive again being a special order. The P pickup is the wrong way round. Neck shapes across all the 4 strings (T and V types) are the same. For what it's worth - I'd be tearing out the big pole P pickup anyway and replacing it with something more traditional. Aguilar 60s wind for example. Easiest way of getting info is to joint the Sandberg page on facebook and send a message - Gregor (from the Bass the World youtube) will answer any questions you have. Or contact a dealer to get a quote - but IIRC built to order specs take about a year.
  8. Fair do's. I'm actually more scared that I might be an asymptomatic carrier and might give it to someone who doesn't know they are vulnerable.
  9. I had a set a long time ago. Brilliant things. Still by far the best hum cancelling strat pickup I've ever heard. Shame they are so expensive these days.
  10. It will be a whole new type of "Exposure!"
  11. But if you get badly enough that you need a ventilator your chances of surviving are under 50%. Then if you are obese it's far worse than that. The end of the lockdown just means there is some room in ICU.
  12. bloody hell - that's actually 15lb heavier than the short lived Pro series Ampeg 8x10!
  13. Nothing much. Got a set of Lollar Black Face strat pickups brand new for about £70 when they retail at about £250. Pre-owned on ebay but the box had never been opened. They are brilliant.
  14. Not until there is a viable treatment without sedation and ventilator use. If I get replaced, so be it.
  15. Sort of. I have basses that stick with flats and rounds and I have some where I change the strings. My P is always Monel flats and I use it for old proper RnB, big band etc, and of course Iron Maiden! My PJ-Ray5 has rounds because I’ve never found a Flatwound B that was worth having. It’s quite bright and needs a lot of EQ adjustment to make it work right in a 25 piece big band. But it’s fantastic for anything more modern. It’s also the bass that I will use if I need to tune down with some heavier strings. I do find that the lower tuning I use, the brighter I want the natural tone of the bass / strings to be to lower the chances of flub. My Sandberg TT4 (Jazz) is very string dependent. With rounds it’s very Marcus Miller. With flats it’s got a great old tone. If I want to play it with the big band I put flats on it. For anything else it gets rounds. Fortunately it has a slotted bridge so swapping strings and saving the older ones is dead easy and I don’t have to thread the coiled string part from the headstock through a bridge hole. Sometimes the big band set has some modern funk arrangements where the the Monel flats don’t really work for slap parts so I might experiment with some Pressurewounds so see if I can get a good compromise. Those are the 3 that I use the most. If we ever get to rehearse or pay live again I expect my new Ibby medium scale to feature a lot too. Until then I’ll just have to imagine what it sounds like in a live mix. 😢
  16. My band is bass, drums, piano, and (depending on who turns up) Another 23 trumpet, sax, trombone, clarinet, flute, cornet, tuba etc etc players. No frakking way am I going into that room for the foreseeable future.
  17. The Marcus Miller versions are far better. Better EQ centres and 5 bands. Much more controllable.
  18. Concentrate on Ida. She's a cracking player.
  19. No point. wont be any gigs for a long time. Hot sweaty dirty rehearsal room with different bands all working hard and breathing hard, then walking into that room, probably with little or no ventilation due to sound proofing. Risk of high viral load in a small space. The rooms won’t be scrubbed between each band. And the studio owned mics will need destroying. Its a no from me.
  20. I reckon the secret with the preamp is to turn both knobs down just a little, and leave it there.
  21. I’ve just put the medium scale Warwick Black Labels on it. Nice Strings! Never used them before. I went for a lighter gauge and as with all Black Labels the B is tapered. They fit perfectly and sound very nice. Bit rougher than the stock nickels as the BL are steels, but still good.
  22. Dear god I’m actually aroused. What a great colour.
  23. Wow. I thought I'd tried everything but I wasn't aware of that one. I'll try it. Thank you.
  24. Always unplug it when not in use. The jack turns the circuit on. If the batteries are fresh then you should get at least a year out of them
