And this one is passive as stock

This is a bit weird to me.
"Obsolete" definition is being stretched a bit too far.
I have a Line 6 Pod XT. It stopped getting updates donkeys ago. It still sounds as good today as it did when I bought it.
This is not the same as a PC not being able to use a new version of anti-virus, or even a new program / app that has been designed for a newer operating system.
My pedal is still working the same as it always did.
It is not obsolete in the slightest. It's just old. There is a real difference.

People have already mentioned the Ibanez EHB models. They now do a standard 30” and a nicer looking version of the multi-scale but those are both well over the £1k mark now. Bass Direct have a MTD 5 string 32” scale at just under £1K. It looks like an upmarket version of the discounted Ibanez SRMD Mezzo medium scale but with better appointments and build (you would hope).
Nordstrand have been threatening a 5 string version of their short scale Acinonyx for some time. That would probably squeeze in at around the £1K mark and might just be the fiver for those, like me, who can’t manage the usual neck width. It was meant to imminent but no doubt Trump’s clowning has caused a delay.
Neck width was what caused me to part with the Talman 5. Mine had a neck like a cricket bat, as well as a body made of lead. I understand they vary quite a bit in this respect. A reasonable bass otherwise but you will end up spending so much on upgrades, you may as well look for a used EHB.
Nordstrand have announced the end of the far east built Acinonyx basses.
So if they go ahead with a 5 string it is likely to be a USA built one and will be a lot more expensive.

The Mark Bass Advanced SS "soft touch" strings are low tension and very flexible.
Andertons have them at a bargain price at the moment.

I’m looking at getting a 5 string. And, as I’m mostly gigging shorts now, I thought I’d try and find a SS 5.
Having a scan of this thread and multiple googles. Is the only real option for a 5 string shortie under £1k+ the Ibanez Talman & Micro?
Am I missing something or is there a massive gap in the market here?
Construction is the most important thing for a good B string sound and that usually costs money. There's lots of 5 strings at 34 scale that sound pretty bad and it would get worse with a shorter scale. But if it's done right it can be excellent, but unfortunately excellent = more expensive. Marleaux make a 34 scale 5 string that is way better than any Dingwall I've ever heard - but at £4K and above.
There's also this "wisdom" that longer scales are needed so the market demand for shorter scale 5 strings is probably limited due to this incorrect assumption.
You might find a good one, but you'll probably have to play a lot of them to get a good one.
I found a good 32 scale Ibanez Mezzo 5 but Ibanez have now discontinued them. I don't play it very often but as I went through 3 of them to get one with a cracking B string I'm not going to be letting it go any time soon.
Sandberg will do a 5 string at 32.5 inch scale as a custom order but they are in the region of £2000 depending on options.

Mine are perfect.
Problems are usually with the string stretching or getting caught in the nut or shifting in the saddles.

He can play other people's music, how do you think covers bands exist? He just can't pass it off as his own.
Not quite what I meant - I meant about continuing the fraud in general. I should have been clearer.
The tour / ticket sales etc are all based on a lie. Anyone who already has a ticket can demand a refund, the promoters are probably going to sue him, the venues might too. The USA allows for punitive damages as well as compensatory ones so that might mean monies on top of refunds and direct costs to the venues.
As most of the people buying the tickets before the exposure would have thought it was his own work he might have to introduce every single tune giving credit to the right person to get away with it. Or redo all the advertising to be "Giacomo plays the music of..."
Unless he takes positive steps at least equal to the original advertising then he would probably be deemed to still be passing off.

I forgot about this video - 26 different preamps all used in various styles - reamping to hear each with each player.
Hopefully that will be of some use to you.

the guitar magazines are running the story now as well
https://www.guitarworld.com/artists/guitarists/giacomo-turra-accusations
Yesterday his signature model was heavily reduced on Andertons - now it's gone completely.
If he goes ahead with his US tour using other people's music then he's going to get sued to oblivion.

There aren’t any. You’ll have to drill a mounting hole.

I wish the compressor could be used with the other 2 preamp tones.
Then that would be ace.

Laney have removed their content of his as well. On Friday they released a custom colour for the Lionheart Fountry with Giacomo all over the marketing. All pulled. Yikes.
He's got a D'Angelico model guitar that has disappeared from their site, although he still shows as one of their artists.

I think there's a whole lot more trickery, ranging from clever use of audio/video tech to outright AI-driven deception, in this space than perhaps is obvious as first site. The old 'modern singers can't sing' idea (beneficiaries or victims of pitch correction, you decide....), I get the impression it's increasingly the case with musicians also

What would a passive stingray sound like?

Yup, this is why the Joe Dart sig has a single 100k pot as it makes up for not having the load from a tone control.
