  1. Without fuzz it’s awful on bass. Beyond terrible. Ok on guitar, but pointless for bass. with fuzz it’s excellent. Stacked into another it’s even better. It’s a one trick pony, but that pony is a thoroughbred.
  2. I've got an Aguilar P in my 5 string... and because I couldn't get just 1 narrow space Aguilar J it also has a Nordy Big J Blade. The Aguilar P is the best P pickup I've ever tried. Mellow when plucked gently, nice bite when digging in.
  3. Usually only use a nano-board but while I can't go and play out... 2 paths. 1: Wireless output A > Source Audio Spectrum > Digitech BSW > Boss LS-2 with the Morley Cliff Burton signature Power Fuzz Wah in Loop A > Fat General compressor > Brown Dog Gated Fuzz > Darkglass B3K V2 > Darkglass M900 head and a barefaced cab 2: Wireless output B > Marshall ED-1 Compressor > SFX Micro Thumpinator 30hz high pass filter > Markbass Marcus Limited Gold Line 800W head and barefaced cab The LS-2 is acting like an On / Off switch for the wah. The button placement on the wah is stupid and it's impossible to turn on the fuzz and the wah circuit at the same time. I set the amps up for clean and deep on the Markbass, and just a touch of grit for the Darkglass. Then I've got a great do everything basic tone that I can tweak with the EQ on my bass if I need to. The Spectrum is the best filter I have ever used. Just amazing. The BSW is set for a "Deeper Underground" / "Hysteria" sort of synthy tone. The "For whom the bell tolls" magic is stacking the Fuzz Wah with the Brown Dog. The Fuzz Wah fuzzes the entire signal, the Brown Dog has a clean blend so it effectively over-fuzzes half the signal reaching it so there's really 2 fuzzed tones mixed. It's a massively filthy tone that's much closer to Burton's live "Bellz" tone than the CD or the recent live sound. It's a huge sound.
  4. I had a Dingwall ABZ 5. Aside from the annoyance of getting strings I liked (this was a few years ago when Dingwall was pretty much the only choice) I didn't find the B was nearly as good as the Marleaux Consat Custom 5 I had at the time as well. I like Dingwalls very much, but I am very much of the mind that a fan fret design is only needed if the basic construction hasn't been done as well as Marleaux manage to do.
  5. I've got a Marcus Goldline I use it with either a single or a pair of Barefaced One10 Very happy.
  6. PC or Mac is the same. When the meeting starts you'll see a little mic icon on the bottom left corner. Click the arrow next to it, then audio settings. That brings up a pop-up. ADVANCED will be on the bottom right on the pop-up Then you can see the audio processing options. Disable the top 2. Can leave the echo cancellation at auto. Only on PC and Mac - option not available on tablet / phone.
  7. You won’t find any pro bassists using the boss live. There are many for Helix.
  8. Zoom. But disable the ambient and background noise filters. Otherwise it thinks the music is background noise.
  9. I'm a big fan of Status and I've owned several, but I want to keep this looking like a Fender. My concern as to prices was that the bass itself was only £600 used so spending nearly the same on just the neck is making me pause.
  10. I suppose a Mex will do. After all old basses didn't have extra rod in the neck, and they had monster La Bella flats on them.
  11. USA ones are £549 on Andertons. Mex are £250 to £299.
  12. I just tried again actually - and I've got some come up! Not the cheapest things in the world!
  13. I've got a lovely Fender American Special P bass, but I really prefer a jazz neck. US parts used to be on the Fender website but now that is location locked and only shows up from a USA IP address. So where is a good place to get a real USA jazz bass neck in the UK? ta.
  14. I made my own Nordy Mute style thing. Self Adhesive foam strip and an ice lolly stick. Cut slots to match your bass with a very sharp knife. Can be put on / taken off really quickly without any faffing. Cost - pennies. The Nordy version is about £40!
  15. Whatever the reasons they won't be your reasons. I think you are just going to have to buy one and try it.
  16. Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder or The Real Me... but NOT the Who version. The WASP version by Johnny Rod is much better.
  17. Use a DAW and an interface with your PC Reaper is a free DAW and easy to use. Drummer does his bit and emails it to you. You open the file in Reaper, plug your bass into an interface and record your part as another track. You can either just record direct or you can use a software plugin to emulate an amplifier. When you have recorded your part You then email that to your guitarist etc etc Each person adds their bit in turn. Many albums are recorded this way these days. Don't have to turn up to the studio anymore.
  18. This. Zoom and Skype etc have too much lag to actually play together.
  19. Bassist in Korn. Famous for having a rattly not very bass like tone. Bit like a sack of marbles in a metal bin.
  20. Is it not just the M81 in a smaller box with fewer connections?
  21. Under normal circumstances I'd agree with you. These are not normal circumstances. I am of course aware that forcing insurers to pay out everything would just move the job losses to the insurance industry away from the arts, but there has to be a middle ground somewhere that allows people to eat and heat our homes.
