Petition to Formally Close Theatres, Restaurants etc
fretmeister replied to therealting's topic in General Discussion
Under normal circumstances I'd agree with you. These are not normal circumstances. I am of course aware that forcing insurers to pay out everything would just move the job losses to the insurance industry away from the arts, but there has to be a middle ground somewhere that allows people to eat and heat our homes. -
Petition to Formally Close Theatres, Restaurants etc

Doesn't matter. Association of British Insurers have announced this morning that standard Business Interruption cover does not apply when the business is shut by government action. https://www.abi.org.uk/news/news-articles/2020/03/statement-on-business-insurance-and-coronavirus/ Basically - if the business didn't tick the box for the add-on that said "Government shutdown" then there is no cover. I can't imagine many businesses bought that extra bit. Insurers are shitheads. They will deny payouts and then still increase the premiums because of this. -
A thing of beauty. Best colour option too!

I have EMGs and the BQC eq system in my j type (Sandberg) and reducing the bass and boosting the mids at the lower end of the freq pot gets really close. Still not perfect, but good enough in a mix.

All compressors raise the noise floor. That is what they are for! They increase the lower volume elements and limit the louder elements. If your usual rig has a tiny bit of hiss you cannot usually hear then a compressor will make it louder. If your rig has noticeable hiss then it's going to get more noticeable. The very best compressors don't have any hiss of their own, but the normal action of a compressor will ALWAYS increase any hiss that exists elsewhere in the signal chain. So the secret is trying to remove hiss from all the other gear in the chain. And turn down / off any tweeters you have if your cab allows it. Placement can help - if you put a compressor after a load of vintage FX then it's going to be noisy even with a studio grade compressor. Putting it right after the bass in the chain can be quieter but if you have envelope filters etc then it can limit them. Compression junkies like Billy Sheehan run several compressors in different places in the chain to get the compression they need with minimal noise increase. I've tried that and it works well. My ThorpyFX Fat General is the quietest pedal compressor I've found so far (even more than the Cali76) but I've also got a very quiet chain before it - EMG loaded bass and a remarkably quiet Source Audio Spectrum Filter. Then it goes into the noisy over drive stuff.

Lovely colour! What's the balance on a strap like?

Pickup change day. Wish me luck! Now with added EQ system too.

EQ system now fitted. Vol / Balance / Mids & Freq / Treble & Bass Used it in anger on Saturday at rehearsal. Very happy. Far better for my taste than the original Black Label pickups and EQ, especially with the semi-para mid control. -
Battery dead = no sound. Installing a bypass switch won't really help either as most of the volume from the EBMM pickup comes from the preamp - it's actually a pretty quiet pickup when wired up passively.

Wah related rather than wireless but interesting nonetheless. Some cheaper ones better than expensive ones

For the forum investigators... the lightest cab with WHEELS?
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
My entire route from car to playing is pretty smooth. -
I sold it!

So you guys are telling me to buy the Super Twin then? -
Too big!

That looks handy. -
If it is clean you want then the smaller M81 is very very very annoyingly clean. I never use mine without some sort of warmer-upper. Maybe I need to trade for something else!

I just had a look at my blutooth speaker.... And it's blutooth only! No line in! Damn it!

Mmmm. Might be worth trying and using the distance selling rules etc to give a trolley a proper go. -

I'd still have to take the rig off the cart when in use other wise those things always end up with a nasty rattle somewhere. -
Quick background - I play in at a music trust every Saturday, in 3 different ensembles. Each requires a room change so I have to move my gear every 50 mins or so. Current gear for this is: Bass Class D head Barefaced One10 Compressor & tuner. The amp rig is very light, but to save time between rooms I put my bass back in the bag, and balance the pedals on top of the Amp&Cab and then carry it, with my sheet music in another bag with a shoulder strap. I can then do it in 1 trip, which is pretty much compulsory. I don't unplug anything other than the power and the bass. When carrying all of it, it's quite heavy so I'm wondering about approaching this from the other direction and getting a larger cab that has wheels so I don't actually have to do much lifting. 1 room change (in and out) has a couple of stairs but nothing too bad. So what is the lightest cab you can think of that comes with wheels as standard? I'm thinking Tilt-back really and not like a Marshall 4x12! I know the Barefaced Super Twin has tilt back wheels, but are there other options? Built in wheels don't seem to be that common. All ideas welcome!

I forgot about my other jobs. I'm also a magician. Mainly do kids parties. They don't pay as well as adult dinner party stuff but they are a lot more fun. It's really a paid hobby and I'm really picky about taking the bookings as I want it to be stress relief rather than a 'real' job. But it's also nice to know I could do 4 to 6 shows a weekend if I really needed to. And I volunteer at a local music trust. That involves playing bass in a few ensembles and stacking chairs! No pay or expenses but the coffee is excellent!

How to raise cash for a better bass? Is it even possible?
fretmeister replied to CongBass's topic in General Discussion
I worked very hard to be able to afford a used Hyperbass. I was gutted! All it did was increase the amount of wrong notes I could play. Must have been something wrong with it. -
Has to be some fault involved somewhere. The disease claims are usually Asbestos related, or Vibration White Finger but can be other stuff. The spread of a nasty flu doesn't really fall into that. But thinking about it for a mo - if a vulnerable person was in hospital and a staff member broke the quarantine rules thus infecting the vulnerable person - that type of thing could come across my desk.
-
I predict and plan budgets in high value litigation including catastrophic injury and disease cases.

I really am looking for tiny. I already have a PJB headphone amp, and Amplitube on my phone but headphones get tiring quickly and it's not great for telly watching. The Backbeat is too expensive for my purposes. I've got an old Roland Cube but it's too big to take with me and surprisingly heavy. I might order the Blackstar and give it a test run. I'm not massively fussed about a brilliant bass tone, more for noodling and doing a bit of reading practice.

What's the best class D bass amp head you've used?
fretmeister replied to thebassist's topic in Amps and Cabs
Not the power amp, the drive section. trying not to take any pedals!
