  1. Amplitube is one of many different music apps available. You need an interface - I use a cheap Line 6 Sonicport one - to get your bass plugged in. Then, and this is the clever bit, not only can you play along to stuff, you can slow it down without changing pitch and you can identify start and stop points to just practice a part of a tune. And it comes with half a dozen free amp models (mostly guitar) that can be added to. The B15 and the SVT models are very good. The demo version is free, but you will need an interface.
  2. I have a pair of One10 cabs and I love them. They aren't going anywhere. But I also fancy something a bit different, and the Supertwin appeals. Can anyone who owns both tell me how different the core sound is from the 2 different types of cab? ta
  3. I've got one too. It's VERY clean sounding, super clear loads of headroom. I tend to turn the bass tone way down to warm it up a bit Battery life is excellent. Can go very loud indeed, far beyond sensible volume for hearing. Cons - I have Amplitube on my iphone and that can mix in anything from my iTunes library so if I want to play along to things on headphones I cannot be bothered to hook up the Bighead just as a headphone sound improving device. So I end up using my iPhone far more than the Bighead.
  4. I only ordered my SY-1 a few days ago - fully in the knowledge that the next UK shipment is not due util the end of October... And I'm already bloody annoyed it isn't here yet! I've got rehearsal on saturday and I want to annoy them!
  5. That's what I use. Plenty loud enough. Either with a DG M900 or a MB Marcus Limited 800. Sounds great.
  6. I play at a local educational trust thing. On electric bass. They have a couple of doubles (that must be worth at least £7.25 on a good day) and they wish to have a pickup installed on one of them for use with the larger ensembles. Will be mostly played pizz, but a bit of arco. No slapping / rock-a-billy! Can anyone recommend a pickup for about £150 that would be worth having? Ideally one that can go straight into a regular bass amp without another preamp. thanks
  7. Imagine the tragedy if they had been melted down as some evil swine then used them to make Bigsby trems. Urgh.
  8. I’ve given in and ordered the Boss. Nobody has stock and the next load isn’t due until end of October, but if I didn’t order now I’d blow the money on something else! I am so weak.
  9. This one is making me want to spend money more than the C4. I cannot abide mucking about with an app. Hopefully they'll get in the shops soon enough.
  10. That's interesting. I'm saving for a 5 string so I hope the new wood choice is as good. I like the finish on my cedar one -I've got the black. The grain comes through a little and it looks great.
  11. The neck is Norwegian maple. It's rock solid. I hardly ever have to tune even if I've walked to where I'm playing when it's been cold. Or come to think of it - in the heat and then going into an air conditioned room.
  12. I looked at the various PJB kit when I wanted very lightweight gear. In the end when I added up the weights the combos were heavier than a Class D head and a barefaced One10, and many of the smaller heads still had a good DI to use.
  13. They are solid body. No chambering or weight relief.
  14. I saw the post on Facebook asking the same thing. I have to turn down the bass on my amp. It's the MarkBass Marcus Limited and the low end with my TT4 SL is mental. That bass sits in the mix wonderfully, and I'm competing with a 20=odd piece big band full of horns and reeds etc. I'm saving for a 5 string as well. IN an empty room has it got as much low end as my Urge2? No. At a gig would I be wanting to trim off that ultra low end so the sound was tight and not flubby and didn't get in the way of the kick drum? Yup. The natural EQ curve of the cherry body is different, but in no way worse. Just have to EQ my amp in a slightly different way than I was used to.
  15. I've done Pink songs in a 3 + singer band before. Got a D-Tuner for the E string. Added tasteful 5th or Octaves when needed.
  16. Pick a U2 song! And even playing R5R5 behind the solo will make an obvious change to filling it up. Or walk it.
  17. Re-arrange the songs properly then. Everything can be re-arranged if you are willing to make it your own.
  18. Enjoy the space. Playing bass in a 3 piece is one of the greatest things ever. Listen to more Cream / Jack Bruce and you'll get the idea. But also - the guitarist should be writing solos to support the song rather than going off on a thin sounding widdle fest too.
