  1. The silly prices are only for the extreme aged finishes. The VS4 active 4 string (P bass inspired) is £1099 at Bass Direct. The aged ones start at about £1500 for gentle ageing and hit £3000 for the master ageing process.
  2. Nope. They moved away from being a Fender clone company. Good job too. The new ones are lovely.
  3. EDITED TO FIX BROKEN PHOTO LINKS Can’t believe I’m doing this, but my back is knackered. For Sale: Marleaux Consat Custom 5 string. I’ve owned it since 2012 and I’ve played it in jazz and big band ensembles. It has the finest low B or any bass I have ever played, including Dingwalls. 34 scale, 45 mm nut. It’s 9lb +/- and well balanced. Delano pickups with a blend and a 3 band EQ that can be switched to passive. As it happens I prefer it passive. Ebony board. You will notice that some photos show fret markers and some don’t... they are little removable stickers. Took me ages to line them up! Drove me nuts! Specs are here: https://www.marleaux-bass.com/marleaux-bass_consat_custom.html There is is an extra strap lock position on the rear of the bass for use with double shoulder strap systems. If you bought one new today you wouldn’t get much change from £3000 I'm in Northants. I would prefer collection. I make a mean cup of tea for anyone who wants to try it. £1750 Ono. PRICE DROP to £1650.00 PRICE DROP £1550.00 PRICE DROP TO £1250.00 collection only FORGOT TO SAY: It will come with a Mono Vertigo gigbag. (£200 RRP) TRADES: I'd consider a trade for a nice lightweight Precision. Nothing active, just something that will sound old and thumpy with some flats on it.
  4. Have you got a photo with the pick guard on it?
  5. I did see that one on the site. Looks lovely. I'm glad I didn't travel to try it out myself - if it's not there anymore!
  6. Did you order the TT4 specifically for low weight or did you just keep looking in the shops?
  7. I've got an Mbrace - I used it post surgery. But it's not practical for my purposes - I move rooms every 40 minutes and have to take everything with me. It's bad enough with the amp / cab etc.
  8. @Cuzzie i got an answer.... It is being released TODAY! I'll keep an eye on their facebook for the full skinny.
  9. As an experiment I put my Ray 5 back to the factory set up specs for the action. I measured it carefully as per the EBMM set up guide. I also removed a shim I had put in the neck pocket. i use 40-125 strings so I tweaked the rod, again to meet the factory spec setup. I was quite surprised how high the action was for a factory set up. No doubt others would find it medium or low! But saying that, I’m playing big band stuff and fret rattle is a huge no-no, and now there is very little. Not sure I’ll keep it this way, but I will try it for a couple of weeks and see if I like it better this way after getting used to it. Feels quite different!
  10. If I get an answer I’ll let you know.
  11. That looks great. ive sent a message to ask about production times / launch date. i really want to try that!
  12. For some reason that tuning hurts my brain. I don't know why. At the moment I'm playing big band stuff so most of it wasn't written for a 5 string anyway. Not really a problem to not have that extra string. And I'll still be keeping my Ray5 as it's very light for the breed. It just doesn't have as good a low B as the Marleaux does.
  13. At rehearsal yesterday I took a 4 string. As it happens the 4 is close to the weight of the Marleaux but the headstock end is a lot lighter of course so it was more comfy. I saw on the BD site there are a couple of Sandbergs at 8lb levels - 4 string. I might have to go and try them out. I did own a 5 string TM5, sounded great but it was 10 lb. I found the neck a bit too big too.
  14. I like that a lot! I wonder how much it is.
  15. Lovely. Quite tempted by one myself.
  16. Has anyone found a proper light one yet? Spec sheets says average 8.8lb - the guys on Talkbass have found even a few sub 8lb, but from posts up there ^ it seems that so far the UK have got 9lb + ones. I sense a conspiracy! If I can raise the money then I might have to email all the big bass shops and just say - Find me one at 8lb. In black. GO!
  17. I've started to have a look at them - they are great. I play / volunteer in an educational trust group and I think the Jazz Ensemble might like to try a couple.
  18. The live version of "Can't get you out of my head" is disappointing. Lost all it's synthy dance goodness from the single.
  19. I'm sure! Alas my soffits need replacing before I spend any more on toys.
  20. Wow! That's light for a 6! I wonder how light they could make a 4 string? Nope. Must not ask. I can't afford it. Will buy a lottery ticket though!
  21. According to BGM - it's going to be built by Fender! He's still playing Alembic, but wanted something different too.
  22. Very classy. It's a 6 so my back has gone into spasm just looking at it, but nevertheless it looks brilliant.
  23. YOu will be. And Roger won't lie about the value as it won't be insured properly if that happens. Vat will be applied to the bass price and the shipping. Then there's import too. Assume about 25% on top of the cost of the bass to cover all of that. Don't risk not paying it on something like that - Customs can confiscate and destroy it.
